"Ushi-kun, are we friends?"

Tendou spat out of nowhere, rubbing his hands together making warmth in the crisp morning air.

"I'm not sure."

He replied, not putting much thought into his answer.

"Wow okay. Way to be vague."

Tendou laughed. Ushijima looked at Tendou's attempt for warmth and begun doing the action as well.

"Well, I don't know. I don't usually assume I'm friends with someone until they actually tell me so."

Before the boy's knew it a month had already passed. It was may and although it was getting warmer, the mornings grew colder. Tendou and Ushijima continued their streak of walking to school and home as well as eating lunch together through the whole month so far. Neither of them really knew why they spent so much time together, but it just became habit at this point.

"Well, I think it's safe to say we're friends."

Tendou smiled in Ushijima's direction, Ushijima slightly doing the same. This is for research; that's what Tendou kept telling himself. He kept asking these sort of questions, personal questions, to learn things, for a hope of figuring out Ushijima. Though for some reason he kept having to assure himself that that's all it was. It's not like Tendou actually wanted to be his friend, it's not like Ushijima wanted to either, he just wanted to learn about the boy, and the boy just felt bad.

That's how it always went.

"Hey! Jack! ...Tendou."

A voice came from in front of them.

"Oh, hello Murakami, Hashimoto."

"Sup' dumb and dumber."

The read head and the other duo glared at each other.

"Didn't think we'd see you here."

Hashimoto smiled.

"I wished we wouldn't."

Tendou cringed, Ushijima bumping his arm with his elbow.

"Are you two heading to school?"

The olive-haired boy questioned.

"Duh."

Murakami started.

"Hey, Jack. Come over here for a sec."

Ushijima looked at him, confused before the boys pulled him over themselves. Tendou glared at them.

"Dude, why are you still hanging around him?!"

"I thought we warned you?"

The boys whisper-yelled at him.

"What do you-"

"What I'm surprised about is that he hasn't dropped you yet!"

"Yeah seriously, what's that about?"

The boys stared at him expectedly.

"He doesn't seem like that. He said we're friends."

Ushijima fiddled with his thumbs.

"Yeah that's what he always says."

The shortest boy rolled his eyes.

"No, seriously. Mokusei, what if he actually tamed Tendou?"

Everyone stood there in silence for a moment.

"Yeah, as if."

He laughed.

"Probably just can't figure him out. Give it a little more time."

Murakami patted Ushijima on the shoulder.

"Whatcha talkin' about over here?"

Tendou said in in a mocking whisper.

"Nothing! Go away, monster!"

Murakami yelled in surprise. Tendou froze, slowly fixing his posture.

"Dude,"

Hashimoto whispered.

"Your not supposed to say that!"

The shortest boy gulped, Tendou rolling his eyes. Ushijima stepped away from the group, sensing the red heads anger.

"Oh, no. It's fine."

Tendou spoke in a sarcastic tone.

"Really it's cool. Come on, Ushi-kun."

He glared at the two boys and turned around to walk away, grabbing the olive-brown haired boy's arm.

Murakami spoke under his breath.

"Yeah, go ahead and walk away. Just like all of the times before."

Tendou froze again. Before anyone knew it, Tendou had Murakami by the shirt hovering his fist over his face.

"Mokusei!"

Hashimoto yelled, running to defend him instantly. Ushijima turned around and froze in shock at the sight.

"SAY IT AGAIN! FUCKING DO IT!"

Tendou yelled at the smaller boy he had restrained.

"LET ME GO, YOU FREAK!"

"TENDOU! LET HIM GO!"

The brunette yelled. The shortest boy struggled and kicked before almost getting free-

WHAM

Both Tendou and Murakami winced.

"Tendou."

Ushijima spoke firmly and lowly, sending chills up the red head's spine. Everyone froze. Ushijima stood next to Tendou who was about to hit the blonde, holding his wrist. Murakami was still in his grip and Hashimoto was holding onto his shirt, previously struggling to pull the boy away from Tendou.

"What the hell is going on here?"

They heard the voice of their captain in the distance.

Ushijima immediately let go of Tendou and bowed.

"I'm sorry captain. I swear we can explain."

Everyone let go of each other and stood awkwardly.

"You boys get over here right now."

Kondo spoke again. Tendou cringed. He wasn't worried about whatever punishment he would have to face from the captain's hands, but the tone Ushijima used with him. That's something Tendou wished to never hear again.
