"Satori."

Tendou flinched, stopping halfway through the living room.

"Yeah?"

He wanted to escape this situation. He didn't want to talk to him right now.

"How was your day at school?"

The red head turned to his father.

"It was good. Practice was fun."

He attempted to walk away yet again before being stopped.

"That's good. Do you want some tea?"

His father got up from his seat and walked into the kitchen, Tendou walking up to the bar area.

"Um, no thanks."

The man took out two cups and tea leaves.

"Why don't you just sit down, I'll bring you a cup."

Fuck.

Tendou did as he was told, carful not to make any wrong moves.

"So."

His father started, bringing the cups over to the table.

"Who's that boy I see you walking with all of the time?"

Tendou gulped.

"Oh, he's one of my teammates. He's also in my Japanese class."

The man hummed.

"Anything else?"

Tendou quickly shook his head no.

"Not a friend?"

The red head looked up at him with his mouth gaped open, trying to find the words to say.

"Satori,"

Aw shit, here we go again.

"You know I only want the best for you. You know that, right?"

Tendou looked back down and nodded.

"So you understand why I wouldn't want you hanging out with a fag."

"DAD!"

Tendou yelled, looking up at his father, offended.

"Am I wrong?"

"Why would you say that? You don't know anything about him!"

The man placed his head in his hands.

"Satori."

The read head looked down at his cup again.

"I don't want you talking to that boy anymore, okay?"

Tendou huffed.

"Why?"

"Satori you don't need to question me."

Tendou slammed his hands on the table.

"But I am! What's so wrong with him?!"

The man stood up from the table.

"He lives at the foster home down the street run by that gay woman."

Tendou loosened his grip on the table, shocked. Foster home?

"What does that have to do with anything."

Tendou glared at his father.

"Satori flats all I should need to say. I just- SATORI!"

The red head ran out of the room and up the stairs into his room. He picked up his phone, finding a notification from Ushijima.

Ushiwaka-kun 💀🔪
Hello. Are you free to talk?

He was quick to try and respond, but cringed remembering his fathers words. Instead, he deleted the boys contact and fell face first into his bed. Once again,

Fuck.

The next day Ushijima waited outside Tendou's house as he did every day, but today, Tendou came out with his head down, not giving his usual greeting.

"Good morning, Tendou."

Ushijima waved. Tendou only looked at him, and pushed past him. Ushijima followed. The air filled with silence, only the sound of Tendou speeding up and Ushijima matching his speed.

"Will you just leave me alone already?"

Tendou shouted suddenly.

Ushijima jumped at the sudden change in tone.

"Did you have a bad morning?"

Ushijima questioned.

"No! I don't want to walk with you anymore!"

The boys starred at each other, Ushijima shocked. He must have had a bad interaction with his sister or something. Ushijima thought, though he didn't know that Tendou's sister had already left a few days ago. Tendou turned around and kept walking, leaving Ushijima to question everything.

The whole rest of the day, Tendou ignored Ushijima. During Japanese, lunch, and practice he didn't say a single word to him. Even when they had reading groups in Japanese, he didn't say anything. In practice Tendou was practicing his blocking, Ushijima glancing at him continuously.

"Hey, Ushijima. What's up?"

Hashimoto threw up a peace sign as him and Murakami walked over to him.

"Hello."

He spoke flatly.

"You doing alright?"

Murakami followed his gaze over to Tendou.

"Oohhh. Is he ignoring you?"

Ushijima nodded.

"Ah, I see. He finally figured you out, huh?"

"It was bound to happen"

Hashimoto chimed in. Ushijima just starred, trying not to believe the boys. Could that be true? Did he see what Ushijima's life was like and then drop him? As much as he didn't want to believe it, it was most likely the truth.
