Warning this chapter contains the f word slur.
"Taro?"
"Yeah?"
The woman responded, though not making eye contact, she was busy trying to feed the baby in front of her.
"What does fag mean?"
She choked and almost dropped the baby's spoon.
"What? Where did you hear that?!"
Ushijima wrote down another answer on his homework sheet.
"A friend."
He replied.
"W-what did they say?"
She said, Ushijima not noticing her extremely concerned and surprised face.
"He said 'I'm not supposed to hang out with fags.'"
She sat there for a second before standing up and rolling up her sleeves.
"Who is this kid? Where does he live? I'm gonna teach him a lesson..."
Ushijima looked up at her, confused.
"His name is Satori Tendou. Please don't hurt him, he's my friend."
Her look softened at the boy.
"Tendou? Oh that makes sense."
Ushijima filled in another question.
"Why?"
She sighed and rolled her sleeves back down, picking up the baby's spoon as it begun to cry.
"His dad, probably, lives down the street from here. He's not a bad guy but he's a homophobe."
She cooed the baby and started feeding it again.
"He's a homophobe?"
"Yeah and the f word isn't something you should be saying. It is mostly used as a slur for the community."
Ushijima sat there thinking for a moment.
"His dad..."
He mumbled.
"What was that, Wakatoshi?"
He shot up.
"They're down the street, right?"
She looked at him confused.
"Uh, yeah. Why-"
And with that Ushijima was running out the door.
The olive-brown haired boy booked it down the sidewalk. After he reached a distance he knew was close enough to Tendou's house, he stopped and let himself catch his breath. He walked the rest of the short way to his friends house.
Friend.
They were friends.
Tendou had said it himself. He said they were friends and Ushijima would never abandon a friend in need. He knew something was up with Tendou, something that he wasn't telling him. He cared about Tendou too much to lose him like all of the others.
Once he reached the front door, he took a deep breath.
Why was he here?
He lifted his hand up to knock.
What was he going to say?
He knocked on the door.
What is going on??
...
He started to panic.
The doorknob turned to reveal a sad looking, puffy eyed Tendou.
"Ushi-"
They both froze.
"What are you doing here? What the hell??"
Tendou said between his teeth, glancing toward the kitchen continuously.
"If my dad sees you he's gonna kill both of us!"
He pushed Ushijima, who was still trying to process what he was going to say, out of the doorway.
"Satori, who is it?"
A deeper voice came from inside the house followed by a head peering over the corner.
"Wait, is that-?!"
"Leave! Oh my gosh!!"
Tendou pushed him even more, trying to keep his head down in a mix of shame and embarrassment.
"Are you okay?"
Is all Ushijima seemed to mutter out.
"WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS RIGHT NOW??"
Tendou almost whined as his dad aproached and he struggled to push away the tree trunk of a man.
"TENDOU!"
Everyone froze at the sudden shouting from the olive-brown haired boy. He let his torso fall into a stiff bow.
"Please come with me."
Tendou looked at him, extremely confused.
"Ah-"
He jolted back up and grabbed the red head by the forearm.
"Thank you!"
He started running in the other direction, dragging the other boy behind him.
"WAIT, WHAT? SATORI!"
The man yelled after them.
Yes. Yes I did mean to name this chapter and the one before like that. :)
