Chapter Thirty Four - Mission Info

~*~*~*~*~Bruce's POV, SHIELD headquarters, conference room ~*~*~*~*~


        We were all sitting at the conference table in the bridge, waiting for Director Fury to show up. Steve, Natasha, and Clint were all sitting and quietly waiting like the agents they were, while Tony and sat stooped over an equation that we had been trying to figure out for a few days. "Well maybe if we moved this variable..." Tony said, trailing off as he pointed to what he meant.
        "No, no, no. That would cause another reaction over here." I say, pointing a little farther down the page. "We don't need another explosion." I add onto the end.
        "Good. You're all here." We all look up at the sound of Fury's voice. He walks in the door, agent Hill following closely behind. She hands us all a copy of the same folder. We all open them, and the first thing I see is two pictures. One is of a woman with shoulder length black hair, blue eyes, and a bony, cruel face. The other is of a man with buzz cut black hair, the same blue eyes, and was extremely muscular. "Dr. Samantha acre, and Dr. John acre. Twins, and the right hand man and woman of..." He pauses, and I glance up, seeing what I least expected on Nick Fury's face. Unease.
        "Of who?" Steve asks. Fury sighs.
        "Dr. Ian Fuller." Everyone in the room snaps to attention. "The same man who had Sophie."
        "That's why you didn't want her here." Nat says. "She is too involved."
        "That and we can't risk her." Fury says with a nod. "We didn't actually know who had Sophie when she was rescued. We've been after this man for over ten years, and we've never come close. We got rare info of where these two will be for the next two and a half months."
        "Wait, you are telling us when you rescued Sophie, you didn't know who you were rescuing her from?" Tony said, raising an eyebrow in disbelief.
        "We didn't even know we would be rescuing anyone Stark. Clint, care to explain? Considering you found her." We all look to Clint, surprised. Even Nat looked Confused.
        "We went in to shut down illegal scientific activity. We were able to get in, and while we were inside, I was going by what I had thought was a storage room, and I heard cries for help. She had heard the commotion and had hoped someone would hear her. She was practically dead. We got here out, and the rest is history." Clint finishes, and we sit in silence.
        "Considering that was one of Dr. Fullers institutions, we were extremely lucky to get close, not to mention get in and do what we actually did." Fury says. "We don't know how far his money and contacts go, or how deep he is in illegal items."
        "Where are they going to be?" Natasha asks, holding up the twins photos.
        "North Africa. We think they are looking to set up a small institution down there." Fury says. "We want you to get information, watch them, and try to stop whatever they are planning with that institution. Get as much info as you can."
        "We can do it." Steve says, and we all nod in agreement.
        "Good. You leave tomorrow at 10am." Fury says. Agent Hill leaves, and Fury starts to leave, but turns back. "Dr. Banner? A private word?" I nod and follow him into the hall. We stop when we are a little ways away from the conference room.
        "What did you need?" I ask.
        "Progress report. How far are you with the project?" I sigh.
        "It's extremely hard to test it unless she has a nightmare. And I still don't know how I'm going to test it against her fire or her water, or her strength." I say, frustrated. "I've already tested several on normal high frequencies, and those failed. I have a few hidden in her room, just in case she does have another nightmare." Fury nods thoughtfully.
        "Keep it up. You'll figure out. And remember what I said about telling the rest of the team." I nod, and go back to the conference room after he dismisses me.
        "What did Fast and Furious want?" Tony asks when I walk back in the room.
        "Just wanted to see if I was ok going on this mission." I lie. I hated to lie to them like this. Tony accepts my excuse.
        "Alright. We're heading back to the tower." I nod, and we all head out.


~*~*~*~*~*~ Sophie's POV One hour earlier ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~


        "Miss Crest, there is someone in the lobby for you. She says her name is Kim." Pepper looks at me and smiles.
        "Perfect timing." She comments. The others had just left for their super secret meeting with Fury that I wasn't allowed to go to. I guess it was kind of my fault that I was stuck here, but seriously?
        "Send her up Jarvis." I say, and the tiny lights above the elevator show her progress coming up. I turn to Loki. "Behave." I say, narrowing my eyes at him.
        "Why would I do anything?" He asks, acting innocent.
        "I don't know. That is why I am telling you to behave now." He rolls his eyes, and I get up and go to the elevator as it opens. Kim smiles when she sees me, and rushes over, enveloping me in a bear hug. "Ok. Hello." I say, and she lets me go. I look up at her. "Did you get taller?" I ask.
        "Nope. I bet you got shorter..... shorty." She says, with a smirk. I sigh. Pepper walks over with a smile on her face.
        "I'm Pepper. We talked last night." She says, and Kim brightens up a little more.
        "Hello, Miss CEO of stark industries." Pepper groans, but still has a smile on her face. Kim looks (Over my head. Ugh. Tall people.) and sees Loki behind me. "Who's he?" She asks, and Pepper and I look at each other, hesitant.
        "That is Loki." Pepper says after a moment.
        "The guy who destroyed New York?" She asks. I groan.
        "That's the one."
        "Huh." She says. I look up at her curiously. "Do you guys have any food? I'm starving." I look over and see Peppers confused face. Kim and I laugh at the same time.
        "Yes we have food. We can grab some from the kitchen and go hang out in the game room. Or the movie room. Or wherever really." Her eyes widen at the mention of the Movie room.
        "Movie marathon. Defiantly." She says, and I smile.
        "I knew I liked you for a reason." She laughs, and we walk to the kitchen. She starts going through all of the cabinets. "Looking for something?" I ask.
        "Do you have Oreos?" She asks. Before I can answer.. "Oh you do! And Nuttella! Perfect!" She lets out an evil laugh.
        "Ummm. Why the evil cackle?" I ask.
        "Its industrial size, and the Oreos are double stuff. You have like three packages." She smiles up at me, and I see a glint in her eye. "Prepare for a sugar high."
        We go down to the movie room, bringing the junk food along. We start watching Pitch perfect, and she shows me the awe and wonder of dunking Oreos in Nuttella. We talk for a little bit, laughing at the weirdest things. About a half hour through though....
        "Lets play truth or dare." She says.
        "Umm. no. That is a risky game." I say with a laugh.
        "Aw. Are you to chicken to play?" She asks.
        "No, I just-"
        "Chicken." She says. She starts cawing like a chicken, and flapping her arms like wings.
        "Fine!" I exclaim.
        "Yes. I win." She says. "Truth or Dare?"
        "Dare." I say, not risking it. 
        "Um. Show me one of your powers." She says, getting an excited smile on her face. I roll my eyes. I grab a shot glass from the bar area at the back of the room, and fill it with water. She looks at me funnily when I set the glass between us. "what are you...." I shush her, and she raises her eyebrows, shutting up. I slowly make the water rise out of the glass in a long, thin line. I gather it into a ball of floating water, and laugh at the look on Kim's face.
        "Cool huh?" I ask, putting the water back in the glass.
        "I was thinking that you would just light something on fire. not.... water powers!" she says, and I laugh again.
        "Ok, ok. Truth or Dare?" I ask her.
        "Dare." She says immediately.
        "Scare Tony when the guys get home." I say, crossing my arms over my chest. She smiles mischievously, and starts to rub her hands together.
        "Oh, I am so doing that." She says with a laugh. "Truth or Dare?"
        "Truth." I say.
        "Yay!" She says.
        "Did I make a mistake choosing that?" I ask her.
        "Probably." She admits. "Ok. Do you like Loki?" I choke on the Dr. Pepper I'm drinking. She patiently waits for me to stop coughing my lungs up.
        "What?!" I exclaim when I have my breath back.
        "Do you like Loki? I mean, it is sooo obvious that he likes you."
        "Wait, what? No he doesn't." I say quickly, denying it. I had thought it through too much.
        "Are you kidding? Have you seen the way he looks at you?"
        "You are overthinking this." I say.
        "I'll prove it. Jarvis? Can you get Pepper down here?" She asks.
        "She is on her way." Pepper walks in a few moments later.
        "Hey guys. What did you need?" She asks.
        "Pepper." Kim says, and she looks up from typing on her phone. "does Loki like Sophie?"
        "Oh yea. that's totally obvious." She says, going back to her phone.
        "He doesn't like me!" I exclaim.
        "Mhmm. Cause kissing you doesn't mean that he likes you or anything." She says, and both Kim and I stare at her. Kim in shock, and me in disbelief. she looks up at me. "Oops. You weren't supposed to know that I knew about that."
        "Tony showed you?!" I exclaim.
        "Only because I wouldn't stop pestering him about it. and he made me swear not to tell anyone else." she says quickly.
        "Oh, now I have got to see this." Kim says, getting up and standing next to Pepper. "Show Me!" Pepper grins.
        "Jarvis, bring up the Loki-Sophie video on my phone."
        "Yes Miss Potts." I see the video show up on her phone, and I watch them watch it in shock.
        "Ohhhhhh. that is so cute!" Kim exclaims. "He totally likes you!!"
        "I-I..... You just..."
        "Saw solid evidence that he totally likes you?" Kim asks.
        "Cause he does." Pepper says. I just stare at them in disbelief. At least they don't know about the dream. When I kissed him. I don't even want to know how they would react to that.
        "Miss Potts, The Avengers are back and are exiting the rooftop as we speak." Jarvis says, interrupting me before I was able to speak.
        "Ohh. Time to scare Tony!" Kim exclaims. They both leave the room, and before I leave, only one thing can come to mind. Do I like Loki back?
