I slowly woke up to the bright light shining through the tall windows that gave the view of New York. I groaned and turned my head a little, so that I was looking at the pale green of Loki's t-shirt. Wait.
My eyes snap open again when I remember what happened last night. My nightmare, Loki comforting me, and the spine tingling, toe curling, made my hair stand on end kiss. Oh jeeze. Did I really just say that? Why brain, why?
I slowly start to get up, but I notice now that he has one arm draped over me. I really don't want to wake him up, so I slowly start to slip out from under his arm. It takes me a full minuet, but I succesfully get out without waking him up. I stand up and stretch, listening to all my joints pop, and look down at Loki. He looks so different when he sleeps. He looks at peace, not a crease of worry on his face.
I quickly leave the room, and go into the kitchen. I was not about to become Edward Cullen. I will not, and I repeat, Will Not be watching people while they slept. That was just plain creepy. I quickly poured myself some cereal, and turned on the news on the medium sized TV in the kitchen. Nothing interesting there. I soon switch it to the Big Bang Theory, glad there was something good on.
"Sophie?" I heard Loki call out a little while later.
"Kitchen!" I call out through a mouth filled with Coco Puffs. I hear the sound of shuffling feet, and the door swings open a moment later. "Morning sleepy head." I say. "I was wondering when you'd roll off that couch." I'm trying to be casual. He gives me a funny look, raising one eyebrow. Ok, maybe too casual.
"Sleepy head?" He asks, confused.
"It means-" I cut off. It's to early in the morning to explain. "It's just a nickname." I end up saying quickly. He looks at me strangely again, but changes the subject.
"Are you training all day again?" He asks. Was he making small talk? That is strange.
"Um, kinda." I say after a moment. "I need to work on my, uh, abilities." I mumble the last part. I see a sudden twinkle in his eye. "What?" I ask slowly.
"May I watch?"
"Um. What?" I ask. "Why in the world would you want to watch? It's pretty boring." I say, taking another spoonfull of my cereal.
"You interest me, as I have said before." I fight to keep the heat from my cheeks. "And I believe I may be able to help. I am very skilled in magic." He says the last part with a smirk.
"Yep. Not like you got it taken away or anything." I say sarcastically. He shoots me a glare, and I laugh. "What? It's not my fault you tried to enslave the planet. That's all on you, Greeny." I say, pointing at him with my spoon. He rolls his eyes.
"When are you starting?" He asks.
"You're serious?" I ask, raiseing my eyebrows yet again. He nods. "Then I hope you have a bathing suit." I say, jumping off of the stool and taking my bowl to the sink.
"A what?"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I sit on the end of the diving board, a few feet above the water, my feet dangling off the edge, inches from the still blue surface. It is perfectly peaceful, and I lay on my back, looking at the ceiling before shutting my eyes. I stay like that for a little bit, soaking in the silence. I feel a smile n my face when I hear quiet, almost nonexistent footsteps. "Hey Greeny." I say softly, letting my voice carry over the water.
"You heard me coming?" He asks, a little suprise in his voice.
"Its pretty quiet in here, It would be kinda hard not to hear you coming." I say, opening my eyes and turning my head so I could look at him. He's wearing dark green swim trunks that I had dug out of his closet. They were hard to find, considering they were in with all the other greens, blacks, and golds. Don't get me wrong, he had clothes with different colors too, he just never wore them. At leaast, not often, anyway.
"What are you doing?" He asks, raising his eyebrows at my position.
"Listening to the silence. Sometimes, the best thing to hear is to hear nothing at all." I say. I'm happily suprised to see that he is extremly muscular up top, even if the clothes he wears didn't show it.
"I thought you were going to praactice." He says, smirk on his face, eyebrows raised.
"I thought you were going to help me." I respond, sitting up. I sit up a little to fast, and have to grab the edge of the board so I don't fall off as it bounces up and down a little bit. The tip of my toes touch the water, sending out a large ripple. "Whoops." I mutter under my breath.
"Careful." He says with a chukle. I roll my eyes.
"Yep. Ha ha." I say sarcastically. "You ready to start or what?" I ask, patting the part of the board next to me. He doesn't seem to get the message. "You going to come over here or not?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"That looks unstable." He says skeptically. I roll my eyes again.
"Its a diving board. It holds a lot of weight." I say.
"It's bending." He points out.
"It's supposed too. You bounce off of it and into the water."
"Why would you do a thing like that?" He asks.
"Its- Well its..." I trail off. "I don't know. It's just fun." I say. "Anyway, just get your butt over here. I want to get started." He walks over and cautiously steps onto the board, slowly making his way across. When he's about halfway across, I grin and bounce a little. He freezes.
"Don't do that." He growls. I laugh, making the board shake a little more. He lurches forward the last few steps and reaches down, grabbing my shoulder for support.
"You okay?" I ask through my laughter as he slowly lowers himself down, sitting on the other side of me.
"You find that amusing?" He asks when he finally has himself situated.
"Yes, I find it quite amusing." I say, sitting up straighter and trying to copy his accent. It was almost a british accent, but not quite. He narrows his eyes at me.
"Are you mocking me?" He asks, a teasing edge starting to hint on the end of his voice.
"I don't know what you are talking about, mortal." I say, keeping the accent. I raise my head so that my nose is turned up into the air. "I am a god." There is a moment of utter silence, before we both burst out laughing. Me, mostly at his expression, and him at my horrible impression. "Okay, okay. Time to be serious." I say after we both almost fall into the water. His legs are hang off the side of the board as well, except with his long legs, both of his feet are in the water.
"Show me what you can do. From easiest to hardest." He says, straightening up. I instantly formed five balls of water and shot them all over, stopping them right next to me
"These are the easiest and leathal." I say. He raises an eyebrow.
"Leathal?" He asks. "Show me."
"Ummmm." I say, looking around the room. "I would rephrase that if I were you. You are the only test subject." I point out.
"Then explain." He says after a moment.
"Well, I could get one around someones head. It would drown them, they wouldn't be able to get out. You wouldn't be able to grab it or anything, I mean, it's water." I say.
"Interesting." He murmmers, staring off into space.
"Um, Greeny?" I ask cautiously. His attention snaps back to me.
"Sorry love, I was just thinking." He says. I rise an eyebrow. "Go on." He says after seeing my expression. I shrug and let three of the water balls drop, leaving two in the air. I levitate them over until they are both laying in my hands, and concentrate. Slowly, I mold the water into two daggers, laying in my hands. It takes quite a bit of effort to hold their shape, but when I do, they look amazing. Moving, liquid water, in the form of a weapon.
Loki took the dagger out of my right hand, and I let the other one drop back into the pool, taking on it's original shape. I hold my concentration on that one, and he turns the dagger over and over in his long slender fingers, looking utterly fasinated. "You've done this before." He says, and I nod, remembering when he escaped the helicarrier.
"Well, It was an emergency situation." I joke. "There was this top level criminal escaping. He tried to take over the world." I was rewarded with an eye roll. He held the dagger by it's hilt, and before I could stop him, he pricked the tip of his index finger. A small drop of blood welled up, and I made the dagger revert back to its original form, the water slipping through Loki's fingers. He looks up at me, a little suprised.
"Why did you let it go?" He asks curiously.
"Because you just stabbed yourself in the finger with it!" I exclaim.
"It was a tiny prick. I was testing the blade." He says. "It was like a real dagger, one made of steel, yet this was made of water." He says the last bit mostly to himself. "What else can you do?" He asks. I look down, away from his curious gaze. He seemed like a child on christmas morning with all of this. I look down, avoiding his gaze. "What is wrong?" He asks.
"I can't do the last one very well. I've only actually been able to do it once. Too much of a power drain. On top of that, I just can't concentrate hard enough." I say.
"Try." He says in a soft voice. I look up and see the pleading, the longing, in his eyes. I sigh and cross my legs in front of me, trying to get into a better position to center my.... power? I really don't know what to call it.
"The things I do for you." I grumble, causing him to smirk at me, triuphant. I shut my eyes and take a deep breath, slowly letting it out. I honed my mind in on one thing, concentrateing on the water. I opened my eyes as three long streams slowly came up from the water. They slowly rise, twisting and curling, braiding in the air. The ends cut off, out of the pool compleatly. It starts to move around, circling the two of us, moving faster and faster. It grew, even though there was no water adding to it. It was in a compleate circle now, spinning at a dangerous speed, and only proceeding to get faster each second, its pace jumping.
And suddenly, it all stops. The water collapses and falls back into the pool. I sigh in frustration and bury my face in my hands. "That never works." I sigh through my fingers. Loki's long cool fingers are suddenly sround mine, pulling my hands away from my face. His other hand grips my chin lightly, forcing me to look up at him.
"That... " He stops, gazing into my eyes. "Your eyes." He murmmers. "They've turned the most beautiful shade of blue." I feel heat rise in my cheeks, and I can tell I'm blushing.
"They uh.. they do that. Whenever I use my water powers." I say, not knowing how to explain.
"They're stunning." He breathes. I feel myself blush harder. "You're stunning." He whispers, before bring his lips an inch closer so that they could touch mine. My hands reached up and got tangled in his hair. One of his hands were around my waist, while the other was on the back of my neck. He and I kissed slowly, lips filled with passion. This was the second time he had kissed me in twenty four hours. What was I doing? He's a criminal. A hot, and very..... sweet? That wasn't the right word. Affectionat when I had gotten to know him. He knew how to calm me down and how to take my fear away. He was my first kiss.
Loki laughed against my lips, and I pulled away a little bit. "What?" I ask curiously, when he stops chuckling.
"Its hard to believe that I was your first kiss." He says. I gasp a little, and he smirks. Suddenly I get an idea, and I grin mischeviously. Confusion flits across his face a split second before I shove him into the pool. He falls in with a huge splash, and comes back up a moment later, spluttering. He glares up at me, but I'm too busy trying not to fall in myself while laughing.
I feel a cold hand wrap around my ankle, and I yelp when I hit the cold water. I kick my feet and resurface, wipeing water out of my eyes. "Not so funny when it's you, now is it?" Loki asks. I roll my eyes and go back under the water. I only have to hold my breath for a moment before breathing in the water. It tasted off because of the clorine, but was ok. Salt water was the best though. I swim to the bottom of the pool and lay on my back, watching the scene above me unfold. Loki was waiting expectantly for me to come back up, and when I didn't, a panicked look set on his face. He stares down through the water, and I wave up at him, taking a deep breath before letting it out. All that came out were bubbles. The realization hit him a moment later, and I saw him roll his eyes. I smiled and used my feet to push off the bottom of the pool and swim towards the surface.
Loki helps me up and out of the pool a moment later, and I smirk at him. "You looked a little worried there for a second Greeny." I say.
"I knew you were fine the whole time." He scoffs.
"Uh huh. Sure you did. I know what I saw." I say with a smile on my face. I reach down and grab our towels, handing him his. I wrap mine around my shoulders in an attempt to keep some of the cold air out.
"Love?" I look up, and see he has a serious look on his face.
"What's wrong?" I ask him.
"I.... I want to ask you something." he says, and I raise my eyebrows. He never stutters. He looks a little nervous. Ok, this had to be a first. Loki, god of mischief, stuttering and nervous. Now I needed to know what this was about.
"What is it?" I ask, prompting him to answer. He takes a deep breath.
"I want to court you." He says, and I raise my eyebrows. That wasn't what I was expecting.
"Court....... you mean...... date?" I ask, unsure.
"I do believe that is what midguardians call it, yes." He says.I blink im shock.
"You want to date me?" I ask in a suprised voice. This wasn't happening. I had to be dreaming. Or hallucinating.
"If you'll have me." He says in a quiet, almost nonexistent voice.
"I...." I trail off. I can't. He is the biggest criminal in the world. He tried to kill mr. Multiple times, I might add. He tryed to take over the world and destroyed New York. He kidnapped me for goodness sake! Why would he even want to date me? What if he was just using me to get out of here and run free? He killed thousands of people, and tryed to kill the team too. Oh jeeze. How would the team react? They'd probably have me locked up in an insane asylum. I couldn't! He..... "Yes." I whisper, suprising myself.
His head snaps up, and his eyes look into mine, making sure he had heard correctly. When he finds what he was looking for, he takes a long stride forward, bending down and Pressing his lips to mine, kissing me hard. I return the kiss, letting my towel drop so that we were both standing there, driping wet in out swimsuits. He kissed me hungrily, as if he had been waiting and couldn't wait any longer. I leaned into him, pressing closer. My nerves were set on edge, and my hair stood on end. A cool feeling spreads through my body, and everything just feels...... right.
We break off, but stay close, only inches away, and I look into his bright green eyes and see something I don't expect. Hope. Maybe this would work out after all.
