The sun shone for the first time in weeks, brightening up the waterlogged streets with a dapple of cheer. You had been happy to see the change, and even happier still to welcome Robert home after a long night.

His voice had been shot from all of the singing. He could barely say three words to you without them breaking, syllables snapping like dry twigs he couldn't quite grasp all at once.

You had led Robert into your modest little flat, fingers latching onto his arm, his sleeve, the fabric of his shirt, just to relish in his presence. Robert was too tired to mind as you walked arm in arm to the bedroom to fall asleep together.

The morning came too soon, with a burst of light through the window you had forgotten to close. But it was sun and it was beautiful. Even more beautiful was it shining in Robert's dirty blond hair. He had been growing it out recently and it was becoming a curly, near-untameable mane.

You hummed, letting your eyes flutter closed so you could spend a few more precious moments tucked up next to Robert in bed, sharing his warmth. He seemed to have the same idea, as you could hear him mutter something nonsensical into your shoulder and cuddle you a bit closer.

The two of you remained in bed until at least noontime, exhaustion tugging at your weary limbs from the night before. You could feel Robert stir beside you and try to stifle a quiet yawn into the pillow as he woke.

Some distant part of your brain felt the sensations of Robert's fingers on your back, rubbing circles into your shoulderblades and sifting through your hair. Robert had always enjoyed touching you, it was the way he showed his affection. Those brief brushes and tender smoothing of the skin were adoring I love yous.

"Morning, love," Robert said once he caught sight of your sleepy smile.

You sighed, stretching your hands above your head, careful not to dislodge Robert behind you. "G'morning."

Your head fell back onto Robert's chest and he huffed a laugh, hands shucking up your shirt to tickle at your sides. You giggled, too out of sorts to do much other than clumsily brush Robert off.

"It's beautiful out, isn't it? Let's start the day off right, won't we?" Robert inquired, voice scratching endearingly.

Knowing exactly what he meant, you tipped your head back. Robert met you halfway with a gentle kiss, rubbing your cheeks with his thumbs. He gave you four or five pecks before pulling away entirely.

"Happy?" You murmured, leaning into his hands.

"Very," Robert replied with a cheeky smile. "Now come on, love! The day is awaiting us!"

You watched as Robert extracted himself from bed, running a hand through the messy tangles of his hair. He was beaming despite just waking up, unbothered and confident about his crooked teeth. You couldn't help but smile back at Robert, dragging yourself sleepily to your feet.

"What're we doing today?" You asked curiously, rubbing the sleep from your eyes.

"I'm gonna take you out to celebrate a fantastic show and an even more fantastic love," Robert said, leaning over to kiss your temple. "Get dressed. It's time I show you off properly."
