(A/N:
Can we just pretend for a moment that all the members of government are not people from real life? As in, the president is not Obama or Orange Cheeto, or Biden. Imma just give these guys random names lmao)
Ross was in a meeting with other members of the government. The most important one. And this, was certainly an important meeting. For the government had been working with HYDRA on a new mission to create a new set of avengers, to replace the current ones.
And unfortunately, someone found out about this. Someone who wasn't supposed to know. Someone who can do catastrophic things to their plans if they wanted to. This someone was none other than Anthony Edward Stark.
Ross didn't know what the meeting was for. He was paged with an emergent meeting, and all he was told was that it was about the HYDRA plans and Tony Stark. That was enough to make him jump out of bed and nearly break a leg almost falling over things trying to get ready and get out of his flat.
The minute he walked into the meeting room, he noticed right off the bat that the aura surrounding everybody was dark. Reasonably, they weren't happy that their mediocre inhuman plans were at risk. And by no less than the guy that irritated them the most, Tony Stark.
What struck Ross as the most odd however, was that there was only three other people in the room. Ross wasn't that important when it came to main government issues, so he figured this must have something to do with the Avengers. And he was right.
He sat down at an empty seat. And not a moment later, President Michael walked into the room, Vice-President Matthew behind him.
They brought up a projection on the projection board. First, a photo of Tony, and then some photos of the new Avengers plan. They called it Operation: REbirth.
"I will get straight to the point," President Michael started. "We've recently had one of our men disguise themselves as a pizza delivery guy, to go to the Avengers tower and plant microphones. With the evidence we've gathered through one of his conversations, we've understood that he found out about Operation: REbirth, and has decided to take some sort of action against it" he explained.
"Who was he having the conversation with?" Somebody asked.
"We don't yet know. That person did not speak the entire time so he or she remains anonymous," VP Matthew answered.
Ross raised his hand up. Once President Michael looked over to him, he understood he was allowed to speak. "What are we going to do about this?" He raised a brow.
"Vice President Matthew and I have discussed with some specialists and agents and former members of secret societies on how we could resolve this issue without anybody getting hurt. We tried to find ways to threaten Mr. Stark, but as history has repeatedly shown, that doesn't work. And unfortunate to admit, he has all the power over us in this situation, since he also has his proof" President Michael started.
He then went on to explain a plan about how they would plant another person in the Avengers tower, who would essentially mess with the gears in Tony's car. Sort of like how in Fast and Furious, they can wirelessly control the car. Then they would get someone to act as one of Tony's friends and tell him to meet somewhere. On the way to the meeting point, Tony is supposed to drive by a highway cliff, where they would take control of his car and drive him off the cliff and into the ocean to his death.
They also didn't forget to address the fact that they'd do this at a time where Tony didn't have the arc reactor on him. They said it was fine for him to have his phone since it would be useless once the car goes off the cliff. The few seconds it would take the car to plunge into the ocean wasn't enough for him to call anyone for help, and once the phone was submerged in water, it would not function.
Ross didn't know how to act or what to think upon hearing this. He sat there frozen, feeling disembodied, and speechless.
"Sir, forgive me if I overstep but, don't you think his team mates would protect him? The Avengers. They're not weak people, we all know this" Another man said.
President Michael scoffed. "Do you really think they're a team? Is that the lie people are telling themselves these days?" He laughed. "They all hate Stark. They hate every single thing he does. Everyone has seen that since day one. I feel bad for the guy. Every single Avenger hates him and so does Captain America's team of the three Musketeers. The only person that doesn't dislike him is King Tchalla. So, don't worry. We've got this in the bag"
The three men other than The president, VP, and Ross were nodding and whispering.
"Yes, the events all throughout 2012 to 2016 have shown this to be true. Sure they'd be sad that a life died, but they wouldn't be sad that it was his life" VP Matthew shrugged.

Everyone except Bruce, Natasha, Bucky, and Steve, came back to the tower drunk. It was their first night back from the 'behavioural school ' the government shoved them in. They went out for drinks that night as celebration.
Steve led Tony up to their room. He prepared a cold shower for the genius in hopes to help him sober up a little quicker. Though Tony was against it at first, stating that he would rather be warm in bed with Steve, Steve managed to convince him with sweet words. He also stood outside the shower in case Tony's vision went wobbly and he decided to slip and fall and crack his head open.
While Tony was washing himself off, Steve sat on the floor, and imagined all the things he would do with Tony now that he wasn't on the run. The countries they would travel to, the beaches they would visit, the memories they would make. And at the end of those daydreams, Steve always came to the same ending.
Him proposing to Tony...
Steve jumped when Tony poked his head out of the shower and said "It would be really, really kind of you, soldier, to get naked and join me"
Steve laughed. "Tony. You are drunk. Things like that are not to be done when either of the parties are drunk" He pointed out.
"Oh, as if I'd ever not want you. I want you when I'm drunk and sober" Tony slurred.
"Finish up. You'll get sick if you stay under the cold water too long" Steve told him. Tony whined and went back under the water to finish up quickly. He got out, Steve wrapped a towel around him and helped him waddle out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. Tony threw a pair of sweatpants on, along with one of Steve's hoodies, and then snuggled with Steve in the bed. "Do you feel a bit more sober now?" He asked.
"Yeah" Tony nodded. "You smell good" he sighed and closed his eyes. Steve's carding his fingers through Tony's mostly dried locks was hypnotizing. The comfort of the pillow, and the warmth from Steve and the thick blanket just increased the effect tenfold.
He was just about to drift off to sleep when Friday piped up. "Dr. Strange has sent you a message, boss"
"Read it out for me, Fri" Tony said.
"Dr. Strange said that he wanted to inform you that he fixed the Looking glass. And he made adjustments to it that allows you to go back and forth without being stuck in another realm"
Tony sat straight up. Eyes wide. He knew what that meant, why Stephen told him that.
"Does that...mean what I think it means?" Steve raised a brow.
