The outside can never be under estimated. Fresh air will do wonders for the mind and body. Stepping outside, not roof over your head, not being surrounded of confined by 4 walls, pure freedom.

I love just hanging out at home in the garden, doing nothing in particular. It was the only time I felt like I could be myself, surrounded by no judgement. I didn't have to pretend to be this cool, rebellious teenager that the whole school saw me as. I didn't have to show my hard, fearless side. I could sit here, on the swing in my garden and just pretend I was 10 again, with no worries in the world. It's the best way to escape my parents, which is what I was doing right now.

"Mum is pissed!" Niall says as he walked out in the garden, chucking a football in the air and catching it again. "Why couldn't you just lie and say you were going to go to college?" He said as stood in front of me.

Niall was always clearing up my mess with the parents, but I've done my fair share of that with him before. Well, before he became the 'perfect' child and went to college. Recently I had to fight my own battles, I was becoming better at it but I missed having him for backup. I'm glad he was home this week for me to drop this on my parents. I knew I'd need support when I finally admitted to it.

"Because I suck at lying, you know that. Anyway, there's nothing that college can teach me that the real world can't. I just need to get out of here, we can't all be perfect like you." I tilt my head to the side, teasing him. It was hard having such a perfect brother, well in the eyes of my parents he was perfect. "I don't get how you can stick around here, you had a chance to go to college on the other side of the country, yet you still chose Pittsburgh."

Niall's always up for the occasional drink, he would never turn down an invite to party. He even bought me my first bottle of alcohol, it was Smirnoff Ice so nothing crazy, but definitely a positive to having an older brother. He even let me come to one of his campus' parties with Katie. He watched over us like a hawk but it was still a great time. Not many people can say they can go to a party with their older brother and still have a good time. I could blame him for my downward spiral of behaviour though. Ever since he left for college, I felt the need to catch up with him, make up for what I was missing out on whilst he was there. Every weekend I would go to house parties, or just drink in a park with my friends. I always managed to keep up with my school work, that's all my parents cared about.

They acted like they didn't know about what I got up to with my friends, they knew just didn't care because I was passing everything at school. Hence why they went crazy at me after I dropped the bomb on them that I'm not applying for any colleges. I told them I'm keeping my job at the local cafe, saving all my money and then I'm moving out. I'm not even exactly sure what they said, they both just started shouting at me over one another, causing me to just leave the kitchen and come out here.

"Well, someone's got to keep an eye on you." He smirks, throwing the ball at me, expecting me not to catch it. But I do, causing him to raise his eyebrows at me. "Impressive." He teases. "You could always do business like me, it's an easy course really. Still plenty of time for partying."

Why should I follow every single boring person and go to a college, where I'll just leave in thousands of dollars of debt, with loads of fake friends that I won't see after college unless it's just to get drunk or high with. Anyway, If you asked any truthful person if they were in their dream job because of college, excluding doctors and stuff, they would most likely say no. You'll just end up leaving college, working a McDonald's to pay off your debt and then never leaving and moving back in with your parents until they die. I think it's pretty clear what I think about college.

"Did you know that like only 50% of people who do Business of college actually get a job doing what they want....no offence. But when I own my own chain of clubs, maybe I'll let you work at one, you can be a shot guy or something." I say as I throw the ball back at him.

"Very funny, but seriously. I've got to go back to college this weekend, so go easy on them." He says going all serious. I hate when he leaves, he's like my best friend and made living at home bearable. Then he left. I could lie and say I understood and didn't get mad at him, but part of me kinda wishes he just took a year out to wait for me or something. But that's me being selfish. I get up from the swing and he pulls me in for a hug.

No matter what was going on in my life, I would always tell Niall. Even if it was some stupid, teenage scandalous drama, he would know. He would also tell me everything. He called me the first time he did weed at college to tell me how amazing it was, but that I shouldn't do it. Trying to be a responsible brother and all. We also fought each other's battles against our crazy strict parents, honestly if I didn't have him or he didn't have me, we would have to actually listen to them. We would have been the most bland people.

I was never afraid to tell him how much I loved him, and he was the same. We hardly argued, and if we did it would just be a pointless, quick one. I don't know how I got so lucky with a brother like him , or how he got so lucky to have me. I remember the first time he got a girlfriend, he cared more about me approving of her than my parents. I almost thought of going to college to be there at the same time as him, I mean how cool would it be to live together without our parents.

Once he left for college, my parents became unbearable. All of their attention was on me. It was so irritating. Now I know some kids wish their parents would care about them, or love the, they can have mine any day. Once they've had them for a day, I promise you they'll come back wishing for their old parents back.

"If you need me, just call." He said, wrapping his arms around me. Niall felt like my only true family. Whilst I had my parents, it didn't really feel like there was any family love there. They just loved me because they had to, because I'm their child. Niall's a lot taller than me, so my head fit under his chin.

"I'll miss you, bro

"I'll miss you, bro." I say, even feeling a tear begin to fall out of my eye. I was hide against his chest so he couldn't see. I hated this part.
