The rest of the practice went as well as I could have imagined. Ukai let me hop in on a couple of drills on defense so I could practice passing against hitters who hit harder than most of the girls I will play against this year. The guys were super great too, of course, cheering me on every now and then.
Well most of them at least.
"You should come to our practices more often! I like having you around," Hinata spills shamelessly as we stand by the bench. I roll my eyes happily and ruffle my hands through his hair. Hinata, of course, had been one of the guys who had hyped me up the whole practice, constantly telling me that my receiving skills were "awesome" and he kept asking me to "teach him."
"Yeah, I like hanging with you guys too," I tell him just as honestly. He smiles at me before pushing my hand off his head. I sit down to begin untying my shoes. Nishanoya plops down on the floor to my right to follow suit.
"Where do you live, Maihua?" Tadashi asks as he walks with Tsukkishima towards the locker room. Tsuki nudges him at the unintentional invasion of privacy laced in his question. "Sorry! I mean-"
To save him from the unnecessary embarrassment I'm sure he's starting to feel, I speak. "I live in the athletes' dorm. Over in Blazer Hall." He gives me a small smile in thanks.
"Hey! That's where we live! Will you walk back with us then?" Hinata interrupts. I shrug as I place my shoes into my bag.
"I mean if we're all going to the same place, then why not?" I smile at him as I slide my shoes into my backpack. I couldn't help but notice that Kageyama had disappeared into the locker room as soon as practice was over.
Not that I was looking for him or anything. It's just hard to not notice his absence.

...

"What are you majoring in?" Hinata asks me as we walk down the sidewalk. The warm air sways around the five of us as we travel back to our dorm building which happens to be almost a ten-minute walk.
"I'm double majoring in Political Science and Economics." I tell him. "What about you?"
"That seems hard! I'm majoring in Business right now but I'm just figuring things out." He blushes in embarrassment. I sling my arm around his shoulder, nearly hitting Kageyama as I do so.
To calm his red cheeks, I ensure, "Business is a good major!" He looks up at me and gives me a coy smile. I pull my arm back and nudge his shoulder. "Lots of opportunities."
"It's also the easiest major Karasuno University offers," Tsukkishima comments from behind us. Hinata stops in his tracks and turns around. Here we go again. I have to admit though, their banter is quite amusing.
"Shut up! Not all of us can be smart and major in stupid things like Paleontology, dumbass." Hinata comments before turning back around to face the walkway ahead of us.
Instead of letting go of the argument, Tsuki and his stubbornness decide to continue. "I'm not majoring in Paleontology, moron. That's not even an option here. I'm double majoring in History and Biology. No wonder you have to major in Business." This causes Hinata to abandon his position between me and Kageyama as he runs at Tsuki. I laugh slightly before rolling my eyes, the taller boy unaffected by Hinata's yelling.
To fill the silence that was increasingly becoming more awkward, I turn to the boy next to me. "What are you majoring in?" I ask. He doesn't look at me but instead pulls his phone out.
"Marketing and Management." he says vaguely.
"What are you gonna do with that?" I continue curiously, finding myself wanting to know more about the seemingly mean introvert. I mean, he's got to have some sort of personality. He showed me some of it back when we chatted by the quad's volleyball court, but that kid seemed to have disappeared since then.
"Run a company." He slides his phone back into his pocket but doesn't elaborate anymore. I stare at his face, hoping he will turn his gaze to me, but his stubborn eyes remain trained on the scenery in front of us.
"Cool." I tell him, leaving the conversation at that although I want nothing more than to make him talk simply to put him out of his comfort zone. I almost instigate an argument by reminding him that he is supposed to be nice to me, but Hinata resumes his position in between us after a few more moments. He immediately tells us about how Tsuki is too smart for his own good. I shake my head at his indirect compliment and smile as I listen.
Within the next five minutes, we make it to Blazer Hall. The odd number of us step into the air-conditioned dorm building and direct our feet toward the elevator. The ride up is hilarious due to Hinata's threatening to jump and get us all trapped.
"Let's jump at the same time, ready?" I ask him jokingly. Tadashi immediately grabs onto Hinata and forces him to keep both of his feet on the ground. I end up laughing throughout the rest of the twenty-second ride up to the seventh floor.
We make our way to our rooms, which happen to be only a hallway away from each other. My dorm room is at the end of the hallway while their rooms are down a perpendicular hallway to the right of mine. The boys turn down their hallway while I continue straight to where Mya probably resides.
I reach for my phone in my pocket, but my fingers come up empty.
It must be in my bag.
I shuffle my bag off of my shoulder and set it on the ground, searching for my dark green iPhone. After emptying the contents of it messily into the hallway outside my door, I conclude that I must have left it at the gym. I let out a groan and rest my head on the door to my dorm room in frustration. After a moment of thinking, I decide to knock in hopes that Mya is home and lets me in.
After multiple attempts and a few minutes of waiting, no such luck.
I let out another groan before deciding to repack my bag and make my way down the boys' hallway. Now, which room is his?
I find his name tag and rap on the door softly a couple of times, shaking my head at my forgetfulness. After a few moments, I almost turn around to leave due to my impatience and growing frustration.
"What?" A voice asks from the now ajar door.
Not Hinata.
Kageyama stands in the slight opening with his forearm resting against the doorframe. He has changed out of his practice clothes into a pair of black Nike shorts and abandoned his shirt, probably crumpled in the corner of his room somewhere. His bare chest catches me off guard but I tear my eyes away before he even thinks of it enough to be interpreted as flattery.
"Is Hinata available?" I ask. He stares at me, mouth in a straight, unwavering line. Due to my annoyance, his inability to comply makes me even more frustrated. I decide to speak again. "What?"
"Why do you need him?" Kageyama asks, continuing to refuse to give me access to Hinata's whereabouts.
"I left my phone at the gym and I was going to ask if he wanted to walk with me to get it." I tell him, leaning back on my heels. His gaze doesn't soften or shift from my face.
Unfortunately, he tells me that "he just got in the shower." Well, I don't exactly want to wait for him. Plus, I don't want to make him walk in the heat after he already took a shower although something tells me he definitely would out of the kindness of his heart.
"Oh, well. I can't get into my room because my keycard is in my phone case." I tell him unnecessarily having already made up my mind. He doesn't say anything, almost expectedly, so I continue as a new idea pops into my head. "Do you know what room Tadashi is in?"
"Why don't you ask me to go?" He counters, catching me seriously off guard. My eyebrow raises and my gaze shamelessly fixes on him for a moment.
"Because I figured you wouldn't want to walk all the way back there for me." I tell him honestly, squinting my eyes at his peculiar question. I see a smirk crawl onto his face at my confusion and answer.
"Well, you were right. Tadashi's in 757." With that, he closes the door and I'm left with an even shallower opinion of the douchebag of a setter.
To push the conversation out of my head, I turn on my heel and look for room 757.
Although for some reason, the tips of my ears feel hot and bothered.
