"Just get on the boat Hinata!" Daichi yells frustratedly at the ginger who debates whether or not he should leave the safety of the wooden deck. Kenma notices his boyfriends hesitation and coyly reaches his hand out to help Hinata onto the boat. My heart twinges at the sight; that is just the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life.
Today, the team decided to rent a yacht big enough to hold the lot of us and head to the middle of the lake to swim and continue the party in open water. Apparently, the lake owners association had rented a huge obstacle course for the weekend and tons of boats all park around it to participate.
After last night, you could say my mood has plummeted. This, of course, was caused by my slight stomach ache and anger towards a meddling setter.
"Hey, why are you being more quiet than usual?" Kuroo asks from beside me. I almost don't hear him due to the NASCAR race of angry thoughts that speed around in my brain. My attention is brought to the friend I had intentionally ignored all morning.
There's no use in treating him like this. He didn't do anything wrong. I sigh before throwing my arm around his shoulder. "I'm sorry. Just don't feel good. " I decide to go with. When my eyes meet his, they look at me in disbelief and slight annoyance. "What?"
"Do not lie to me." He sees right through me. My eyes quickly scan the boat deck for the reason behind my hostility but find myself unable to set sights on him.
"I'll tell you later." I shrug. "It's just something someone said to me last night. I don't want to cause drama or ruin anybody's day so we can just talk about it later." He doesn't seem satisfied with this response. "I promise."
He eventually gives in and I watch his eyes roll back in his head. "Fine."
A minute later, the boat rocks, pulling away from the deck. Cheers are heard from the mouths of the excited boys.
"You want something?" Bokuto asks me a few minutes into the ride. Akaashi slaps him for offering me an alcoholic drink due to my brother being present. Bokuto barely takes notice and holds out a red solo cup for me. I grab it even though Akaashi's eyes burn through me in disappointment.
"Akaashi, come on." I tell him. "I'm almost nineteen so it's fine!"
He rolls his eyes as I take a sip of the pink liquid. "Is that what Daichi said?"
I squint my eyes at him in fake anger. "You wouldn't tell him." I accuse, hoping he agrees with me. He takes a sharp inhale of breath and looks around the boat quickly as if he's trying to spot my brother.
"Wouldn't I?" He teases, pretending to get up to go find him. I immediately push my drink into Kuroo's unsuspecting hand and lunge towards the black-haired setter. He pushes me off with ease and dodges past me, making a beeline for my older sibling. I gasp as they begin talking, trying to appear innocent as I now sit next to Bokuto. My eyes can't help but sneak a glance to see if Daichi has changed his mood or attention towards me. He laughs at something Akaashi says and pats his shoulder. I can't make out what they're talking about but Akaashi has a smirk on his face as he makes his triumphant return.
"Akaashi," I begin warningly.
His eyes roll back again before he opens his mouth to answer. "Relax, I didn't say anything."
I look up at him in annoyance. "You know what, Akaashi. You remember in elementary school when you would be arguing with your friend and they'd say 'I'm gonna tell on you' and then they raised their hand. And then they ask to go to the bathroom or something," I explain. His eyebrow raises as if he had no idea where I was going with this. "That's what you are. The annoying elementary school kid."
Kuroo and Bokuto howl in laughter at the expense of their friend.
"Oh shut up." A smile crosses Akaashi's lips. He plops himself down on the other side of me, sandwiching me between him and Bokuto. "You're lucky I didn't say anything."
I slap the back of his head as he takes a sip from his cup, causing it to splash against his face as he reacts. "Don't threaten me, Akaashi. It's mean." I stand up quickly so he can't respond to my hit and land in my original spot on the bench next to Kuroo. He simply shakes his head as I grab my drink back from Kuroo.
The little drink fiasco has made me slightly forget about my earlier anguish. Being around these three boys will do that to anyone.
After about twenty minutes of driving, SS. Karasuno (and guests) makes it to the main event. The obstacle course is way bigger than I thought it would be, causing the child in me to erupt at the thought of participating in my very own wipeout course. If you told me to estimate the number of boats surrounding the course, I'd have to guess around thirty other parties have decided to indulge in the festivities.
"What do you want to do first?" Tadashi asks me as the boat decides to begin the real party. The first years plus Kenma are the first to make a move toward the course. My teeth bite down on my lip as I excitedly look at the array of floating objects. I hear Hinata trying to convince Kenma to go on the course with us but my attention is on the water. I can't help but sneak a glance at Kageyama as he stands by his ginger best friend. His blue eyes are looking uninterestedly at the course as I expected they would be.
My mind can't decide so I just shrug, tugging his hand. "I don't care! Just come on!"
"Hang on guys, you need life jackets!" Suga yells to the six of us. Tsukishima decides to take up the argument with the team mom and manages to convince him that we will stay in the safety of the floating course and won't need them. Somehow, the salty first-year manages to manipulate the silver-haired boy to let us go free of obnoxious floatation devices.
Of course, I have to tease him about this. "Wow, Tsukishima, who knew you could actually be useful!"
Next thing I know, I am being pushed off the boat by a pair of strong, pale arms. My mouth opens in an unsuspecting scream as I fall the short distance to the water. My mouth closes as my head falls beneath the cold lake surface.
The blonde is doubled over in laughter when my soaking wet head pops back up to indulge my lungs with some air. Kageyama has a small smirk on his face as well which only makes me angrier.
"Do you need a life jacket!" Suga calls. I roll my eyes at his protection but kindly wave him off, yelling to him that I'm okay.
"Stop laughing at me and get in!" I yell to Tsukishima. "The last one to the course loses!"
This finally forces the boys into the water after me. Due to my head start, I manage to make it to the huge floating mat first. As my arms push myself up onto it, I feel a hand drag my leg back into the water, causing me to scream as my head once again falls under. I look up to find none other than Tsukishima standing over me tauntingly. A frown etches into my lips but a revenge plan appears in my mind before I can get too upset. I hold my hand up in an attempt to get him to pull me up. As I suspected, he rolls his eyes and crosses his arms.
"You owe me, cheater." I tell him, giving him my best puppy dog eyes. Tadashi, Hinata, Kenma, and Kageyama all manage to climb up, joining the blonde setter before he makes up his mind to help me. He huffs and reaches his hand down.
My thankful smile turns devilish and before he catches on, I manage to pull him off the shaky ground back into the water.
It is my turn to laugh as I kneel on the mat, unable to stand up in between my gasps of happiness. Tadashi and Hinata both laugh along with me at the expense of their tall friend. Even Kenma has a small, amused smile on his face. To no one's surprise, Kageyama remains stoic. The sight almost makes me stop my laughter but after checking the look on Tsuki's face, I manage to push it to the black of my mind.
He will not ruin this day.
