I feel my heart physically drop as my eyes scan over the words, reading them over and over again to make sure that he really did sink that low. I message her back and ask her about more of the details. I don't want to believe her. Especially after I gave him a second chance.
Then she sends the video.
My thumb hesitates over the play button. The weakness that crushes my heart forces me to pause to brace myself for the certain evidence of my boyfriend's untruthfulness. After a moment of building up the walls, my brain's construction workers abandon their positions the second the picture sets in motion, leaving the wall unfinished and unsuccessful. The video seems to be a Snapchat story taken yesterday night. The girl, Aiko had obviously taken the video as she is seen smiling in the frame with one of her friends. She spins the camera around, letting it land on a drinking game that is taking place on the table in front of her.
That's when the wall completely crumbles to rubble.
Teru has a girl on his lap and a bottle of something in his hand. The girl laughs.
Ouch.
"Mya, guess what?" I ask into the phone, needing to let out some of my frustration and anger. Because Mya's Friday professor decided to cancel class for tomorrow, she decided to head home a night early for the weekend because her grandparents are coming to visit. Luckily, the team we play tonight isn't very good and Coach offered to put in our second string setter to allow her to see her grandparents. The grandparents are from Argentina so Mya doesn't get to see them often, making her absence even more understandable.
I spill the entire story to her. When I get to tell her about the video, my stomach wretches in sickness at my own doing. It's my fault. I gave him another chance that he didn't deserve and now I look like an idiot.
God, I'm fucking stupid.
"Hua, this is not your fault. It's your personality to give him another chance. Every girl wants to believe that her boyfriend isn't a cheater. You're not stupid for giving him a second chance." She reads my mind. I sigh, feeling the tears about to catch up with me.
"I still feel stupid," I cry out. She tries to console me through the phone as the pain from the past week makes a home in my heart. Hot tears start spilling from the corners of my eyes and I have no control to stop or slow them.
She stays on the line with me until my crying ceases a couple of minutes later. I manage to pull it together long enough for her to think I was okay.
Before she had hung up, she proposed that I "text Tadashi and ask him if he wants to hang out. You shouldn't be alone tonight. I'm sure the guys miss you."
I told her I would.
That's exactly what I did.NEW MESSAGE
___
yams:)
Me and Tsuki are at his brother's house because he just got engaged. We should be back in like an hour though! What's wrong?
___I almost cry again. My back flops back on my mattress. The war raging in my head between anger and sadness shows no signs of stopping, and neither side is willing to surrender. To shake their lines, I pull my phone out again, shooting Yams a quick and grateful never mind. My eyes scan through my messages aimlessly as my mind runs heavy with degrading thoughts about myself and the boy who cheated on me. My eyes land on another thread of messages and in a moment, I'm composing a message.
