"Tanaka, Nishanoya! Stop throwing sand at each other!" Asahi urges at the two hoodlums who are both covered in the disintegrated rock that covers the beach.
Today is the first full day of our fun Labor Day weekend. It's around noon now and we are engaged in a very amusing game of beach volleyball.
"Maihua, it's your serve!" Hinata calls after we score a point. Daichi and Suga broke up the teams fairly evenly or at least as evenly as they could. On my side, I have Asahi, Suga, Tanaka, Akaashi, Kuroo, Hinata, and Tadashi. The game has gone pretty smoothly even though the adjustment to playing in the sand compared to the hard gym floor was not easy for some of the guys. By some of the guys, I mainly mean Hinata. Plus, with Kageyama on the other side, the middle hitter is struggling to do as much damage as he'd like. Either way, it's been an interesting game.
My eyes land on the receivers opposite the net as I debate on who to send the ball to. Nishanoya, Tsuki, and Kenma are in the back row. My best bet is to aim the ball at Tsukishima due to his lack of experience in sand and with receiving compared to the other two.
After landing on a decision, I call "serve!" My jump serve floats over the net heading for the gap in between Kenma and Tsuki. Kenma calls for it in an attempt to take the responsibility off the weakest passer. His receive is nearly flawless as usual to the other setter in the front row. Kageyama sets it up with scary perfect accuracy to Bokuto who in turn slams it directly to Kuroo. Bokuto cries out in agony at the fact that his hit was returnable and passed high enough for Akaashi to get underneath it.
I call for a back-row attack. Akaashi shakes the blockers off with a single glance to Tanaka before setting the ball to me. The set is perfect and I manage to hit the ball to the back left corner, close enough to the line where even Nishanoya can't receive it. Akaashi gives me a sly smile. Out of all the boys I've ever played with, Akaashi and I seem to have this unspoken connection on where the ball is best placed, leaving us with an insane amount of trust and fluidity.
"That's my girl!" Kuroo immediately pulls me into a headlock, running his hands through my hair to mess it up. The ponytail that previously styled my hair is now ruined, forcing me to push him away and take the band out to redo it. I roll my eyes at him playfully.
"Shut up, you idiot. That was all Akaashi." I tell him. He places his hand over his bare chest as if he was just shot through the heart. "Your pass was okay too, I will admit." His smile returns at that.
After almost two more hours of playing, we decide it's time to abandon our game and test out the main event: the lake. A stampede of boys rushes into the water without hesitation saved for a couple of the more hesitant swimmers. Tadashi decides to hang back with me for a moment before jumping into the cold water. Tsukishima seems hesitant as well so he stays with us.
One thing I've realized about being surrounded by a plethora of different types of guys is that I really don't have a type when it comes to body type. Each guy has his own quirks and I find myself loving the views that have so pleasantly presented themselves.
Sweaty, muscular, delicious men surround me and now that we're getting in the water, the absence of t-shirts has me loving every second. Of course, I'd never admit that to any of them.
"Maihua?" Tadashi asks from my right. My head snaps over to look at him. He gazes at me expectantly as if he is awaiting an answer.
Having been thinking about the scenic male beauty that swims in front of me, I completely zoned out. "Sorry, what?" I ask dumbly. Beside him, I see Tsukishima smirk with his arms crossed over his pale chest.
"Looks like she was too busy admiring the view. Is that right, baby Daichi?" Tsuki taunts, calling me the nickname that Kuroo so generously branded me with me. Heat floods my cheeks at his accusations, but now was not the time to fall into the blonde's trap of embarrassing me.
"Very much so," I tell him honestly although the heat at the tips of my ears is not so easily covered. Tsuki lets out an annoyed tch before rolling his eyes at my not-so-expected reaction.
Tadashi repeats his question. "Do you want to swim?"
Instead of verbally replying, I smile deviously before shoving the messy haired boy and taking off towards the water. The second my ankles submerge under the deep blue water, I let out a shriek at the chill that runs up my body due to the temperature.
"I change my mind!" I screech as Tadashi passes me, going deeper until his knees are covered by the freezing mass of water. "It's way too cold!"
Before I have a chance to react, a pair of arms wrap around my bare waist and drag me farther into the cold. My eyes land on Kuroo's tan skin. Obviously, he was too impatient to wait for me to get in and figured it would be fun to pull me under against my will. The screams that leave my mouth refuse to be quieted as the water covers more and more of my body faster than I can stop it.
My screeches come to a halt as I am thrown under the surface. My head pops out and I gasp for breath, shocked by the icy water that my skin is submerged in.
"See? It's not nearly as bad once you get used to it." My hair covers my eyes but I can tell by his voice that he is smirking at me. My fingers force my darkened hair out of my vision, landing on the culprit who managed to trap me in the cold waves.
"Fuck you, Kuroo." I spit, throwing my arms around myself in a feeble attempt to warm my body. He throws his head back in laughter at his victory while his arms clutch his stomach in amusement. The sight fuels my rage, begging me to take actions against the traitor. Without hesitation, my body jolts forward to jump onto his shoulders, pushing him underneath the water as he had moments earlier.
Because I managed to catch him off guard, I was successful in my pursuit.
His head pops up out of the water with wide eyes and an amused smile. "What the fuck, Maihua!"
"Guys! Could you maybe keep your flirting to a minimum?" Daichi interrupts as Kuroo lunges at me again. "It's making me sick." I roll my eyes at his exaggeration. To further his annoyance, I decide to jump on Kuroo's back, wrapping my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck. His hands immediately come to the underside of my thighs. Although it is an innocent gesture coming from him and the fact that I initiated it, I can't help but feel hot at the thought of our position.
"I'm gonna throw up." Suga supports Daichi's side. I stick my tongue out at him over Kuroo's shoulder.
"Anyone who hates on us is just jealous that I bagged the captain's little sister." Kuroo pretends to mutter to me but the words manage to reach the ears of anyone within the vicinity. A blush crawls onto my cheeks at his wording, earning him a slap on the back of his head.
"Trust me, no one is jealous." Tsukishima says rudely. Tadashi, out of respect for me I assume, pushes Tsuki so his footing falters and his tall body falls over into the water.
"I'm jealous!" Bokuto yells in objection, running through the water towards us. I laugh at his exaggerated movements. My attention turns to the side of Kuroo's face which morphs into one of competitiveness.
Suddenly, my body is thrown off of Kuroo's back, forcing me to land in the water with a splash. When I emerge, Bokuto is attempting to push Kuroo under the water. My eyes roll back at their boyish behavior as I stand with my arms crossed.
"Hey, Maihua, wanna play chicken?" Bokuto asks after successfully submerging the other's head underneath the surface.
Before I have the chance to answer, Akaashi calls out in objection. "Bokuto you're only saying that because you want her legs around your neck." My cheeks burn at how Akaashi worded the sentence, making it sound way more sexual than I'm sure he intended.
"Shut up, Akaashi." Bokuto says at the same time Kuroo replies, "Who wouldn't?"
"Guys come on, I'm going to make my mom come get her if you don't stop this incessant sexual harassment." Daichi objects. "I'm serious. One more sexual innuendo and you guys are done."
Bokuto ignores him. "Come on! Let's play!"
"I want Maihua on my team," Kuroo decides.
"You guys could at least pretend to spare Daichi's feelings." Suga shakes his head as he looks out for his best friend.
I look between the two boys although already making my mind up in my head as to who I want on my side. "I'm sorry Kuroo, I have to pick Bokuto for this. He's just stronger than you are."
Kuroo's eyes widen as my betrayal reaches his ears.
"Hey, hey, hey! Come on, who's going to try to beat us?" Bokuto cheers in celebration, bending down so I can crawl onto his back. Heat floods my cheeks as his hands come to hold me steady on his shoulders. My hands instinctively sink themselves into his gray hair to hold myself steady.
"I cannot believe this." Kuroo begins dejectedly. "Someone get on my shoulders."
Kenma, who happens to be standing with Hinata a few feet closer to shore, immediately ducks behind the nearest person to avoid the violent game that is about to commence. Kuroo rolls his eyes and calls the younger boy out for it before giving up and scanning the crowd for another worthy teammate.
"I'll go!" Tadashi calls. "Tsuki won't partner with me anyway." Kuroo smiles mischievously before calling the blonde boy a pussy. Tadashi abandons his friend and crawls onto Kuroo's shoulders, prepared to battle me and my owl-eyed friend.
After Akaashi sets some rules, the war commences. It ends nearly as soon as it starts as I push Tadashi off of Kuroo's shoulders in under thirty seconds thanks to Bokuto's secure grip on my body.
Within the next five minutes, Nishanoya, Tanaka, Akaashi, Suga, and even Daichi decide to step up to the plate in an attempt to end BokuHua's winning streak.
"We are unstoppable!" Bokuto cheers after we successfully knock Akaashi into the water.
An argument captures my attention while my partner argues with his setter. "Kageyama, please! I know we can beat them!" Hinata calls to his roommate who has thus far only "enjoyed" the jousts from the sidelines. The raven-haired asshole shakes his head at Hinata's pleas. "Don't be lame!"
"I don't care enough to try to fight them." He tells the ginger. "Besides, everyone is just going easy on her because she's a girl."
    My anger flares at that.
"Hinata, just partner with someone else. Kageyama is obviously too much of a bitch to partake in an activity where he's bound to lose anyway." The words escape before I can stop them.
Kageyama's deathly glare reaches me. A couple of the boys shout out in laughter, including Bokuto who almost drops me as a howl escapes his lips.
"Fine." He breathes. I can see a hint of embarrassment on his cheeks at the fact that I oh so publicly called him out. "But just so you know, I'm not going to go easy on you."
A smirk crosses my lips. "I wouldn't want you to."
