The team ends up deciding to go to the Crows Nest, a diner on south campus which is pretty close to the athletes' dorm, to celebrate the win. Daichi invited the three of us along although we had planned on going to eat wherever they did anyway but it was sweet of him to offer us a formal invitation.
"Did you see Teru?" Daichi asks after the waitress seats us. The restaurant has a couple of large booths, fitting about eight people in each one so the majority of us managed to squeeze into one of the blue booths together. Daichi and the rest of the upperclassmen sit in the booth behind the first years and Karina.
"Yeah, we talked for a little bit but he had to get on the bus after like ten minutes. I think we're gonna hang out next weekend though." I explain over the midsection between us. A frown crosses his face momentarily.
"Did you ask him if he could come pick you up?" He asks. I nod before matching my frown to his and shrugging.
Trying not to sound too disappointed, I tell him, "He says he might be able to, but I'm sure it'll work out." He just shrugs and nods before turning back around, signaling the end of the conversation.
"Who is Teru?" Tadashi asks from beside me, eavesdropping innocently on the words exchanged between me and my brother. I turn forward, joining the conversation at my own table.
"He's my boyfriend. He was number one on Jozenji's team." I explain.
His eyebrows raise in surprise, "Oh, I didn't know you had a boyfriend." He smiles. "He was the best on their team if that means anything." He adds, nudging my shoulder. I laugh at his reaction, agreeing that Teru's talent was better than that of his teammates.
"He's really hot too." Mya adds from next to me. I roll my eyes but shrug in agreement, laughing at her addition to the conversation. The moment my eyes fall back down, they meet Kageyama's, who happens to be sitting directly across from me. The emotion on his face is one I can't read, but he doesn't laugh along with the rest of the people at the table.
I can't help but unintentionally smirk at that.

...

Over the hour and a half we had taken to eat, our conversation bounced back and forth between volleyball and school. Even as the waitress hands us our receipts, we're still talking about the game.
"I wish I could serve like that." Hinata gushes, leaning into his hands on the table. Kageyama's hand reaches out and knocks Hinata's elbow off the table, causing his face to fall, nearly smacking into the hard surface under him.
"Practice then, dumbass," Kageyama tells him, his smirk pulling at the corners of his pink lips. Most of the table laughs save for Tsuki who I can tell hates admitting that Kageyama can be funny sometimes.
After a few more moments, we start filing out to pay at the register near the front of the store. Conversation breaks into smaller groups as we disperse. I end up talking to the girls again as we wait in line. Daichi told me he would pay for mine, but to be polite, I decide to wait with them. The conversation slips into one about our first practice game which is coming up next Thursday, only four days after classes start Monday. After we pay, we decide to start heading towards the dorms. Karina leaves us then, going back to her car as she happens to live off campus.
"Hey, Maihua." A voice asks from behind me once we step outside. I turn around, finding Tadashi jogging up to me. Mya has taken up a conversation on the phone with her overbearing mother so I can tell she's not really paying attention to us.
"Sup Yams?" I smile at him, excited to use the nickname he had brought to my attention during dinner. He doesn't return it wholeheartedly so I can tell something is off. "Is everything okay?"
"I don't know if I should be the one to say this or if they're looking too much into it, but some of the guys were saying that they saw Terushima flirting with a group of girls after the game." He breathes, his face becoming red. My eyebrows furrow together.
Out of all the ways this conversation could have gone, that is not what I was expecting.
I don't know whether I was asking him to repeat the words because I didn't hear them correctly or because I didn't want to believe them. "Wait what?" He takes his bottom lip into his mouth and scratches the back of his neck awkwardly.
"It's just-they saw him getting some girl's number. He was leaving the locker room and the guys just happened to see it." He repeats with more detail. I feel my heart drop at his confirmation. My walk slows slightly and I feel hurt flood through my chest. How do I respond to that?
"Thank you for telling me," I decide. My mouth manages to muster a sad smile. "Seriously."
"I'm sorry." He apologizes. I see the empathy in his eyes and I can't help but find comfort in them. I let out a breath and swallow the slight lump in my throat.
"It's not your fault," I tell him.
He sighs. "It still sucks." I laugh at that. I smile a real smile now, deciding to run my hand through his messy hair, petting him like a dog.
"Yeah, but it'll be alright," I remind him. He smiles, pushing my hand from his head and turning to go back to Tsuki, who trails almost twenty feet behind us. I'm sure his distance was meant to stay clear of the hard conversation and I can't help but mentally thank him for saving me from more embarrassment. I turn back to Mya, hanging my head slightly until she finishes her phone call. I try to pay attention to the words she speaks to her mom to distract me, but the only thing I can think about is Yamaguchi's breaking news.
"Hellooooo," Mya calls. My head snaps up to her calling for my attention. "What's got you zoned out?"
Without hesitating, I drop the words as abruptly as they had been dropped on me. "Tadashi just told me that Terushima was flirting with some girls after the game." Her eyes widen at the seriousness of my statement.
"What the fuck. I was not expecting that. What-are you okay?" She asks. I shrug.
"Not really, but I'm not crying so it could be worse." I joke dryly. She throws her arm around my shoulder in an attempt to comfort me. It's counterproductive and kind of makes me want to let it all out to her. Still, I let her because I want her to think she's helping. "It does suck though."
Her next statement is out of pocket. "I'll chop his dick off." She offers immediately. This, on the other hand, does help. I throw my head back in laughter.
"Wait on that." I tell her. "It's not that I don't believe Tadashi or anything, I just want to ask Teru about it and see what he says."
She pauses. "Okay, that makes sense. Get both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions. That would be the healthy thing to do."
The rest of the walk back, she tries to get my attention off of it by telling me about a conversation she had with Asahi earlier before moving on to how her mom was bitching at her on the phone about her classes. I listen intently, wanting to think about anything else. As we get closer to the dorm, the rest of the boys start to catch up with us. Hinata is the first to join our conversation as he talks about one of the plays he made in the practice game.
In all honesty, I feel slightly embarrassed at the fact that some of the guys saw my boyfriend essentially cheating on me after I had talked so well about him during dinner.
"Hey, do you guys want to hang out later?" Hinata asks, pushing himself in between me and my tall friend. Her eyes meet mine in an attempt to read what they want to go about answering that question.
Do I want to hang out with them? Do I even feel up to it after getting that bomb dropped on me?
"Umm," Mya begins, perhaps waiting for me to answer.
I reply before she has to find one. "Maybe... I have some stuff I have to do first but maybe after we could. What exactly would we be doing?" I ask him. Honestly, it depends on how my conversation with Terushima goes. I don't mention that though.
"Well, usually on Fridays, Kageyama and I play video games. We don't have practice tomorrow though so we were thinking about maybe drinking a little bit?" He blushes at that.
My mouth drops in surprise at the ginger's confession. "Shoyo Hinata!" I scowl jokingly. "I didn't know you condoned underage drinking!"
"I don't! It was just a suggestion! We don't have to-"
"I'm kidding, Hinata. That sounds like fun. Maybe we could play a drinking game or something." I smile down at him although realizing I basically committed to going now. I watch his features soften as relief crosses his face.
"Yeah, okay! Don't scare me like that!" He hits me lightly. I can't help but bust out in laughter.
Maybe this will be good for me. You know, to get my mind off things.
