I stand behind the counter, furious as ever. It was Tuesday morning, and Leonardo hadn't come to the store yesterday. But today he did, along with Melanie. I was standing behind the counter, reading a book, and then all of a sudden I see him walk into the store, as if nothing!
Could you believe it? Like if he hadn't just been having sex with a woman in an alleyway a couple of days ago! He had betrayed the unofficial and unsigned document that was planted into our hands as soon as we felt the electricity course through our veins!
I could feel the anger rushing through me, threatening to release itself in an inappropriate manner. I rushed to the employee bathroom quickly and locked it. I took off my black jacket and shoved it in my face and screamed. After a few seconds I released my face from the jacket and looked in the mirror.
The front of my hair was messed up due to the friction of my head clashing against the jacket. My face was red from the anger and screaming. Probably also cause of the friction. But worst of all, as I stepped closer to the mirror, as I stared into my own eyes, I could see them becoming glossy, the tears threatening to fall.
I drop my jacket on the floor and immediately grab some napkins. I wipe my eyes before the tears can even fall. I look up and slow my breathing down, getting myself back on track. After a few moments I finally put my head back down and stare myself down in the mirror once again. I can't read any source of emotion in my face. I have no smile lines, my lips are sitting on my face, waiting to at least be moved, my eyes just staring straight back at me. Nothing.
I grab my jacket and I dust it off, making sure it doesn't smell like piss. Then I rush to the employee area and leave my stuff there. I go back to the front and look for Leonardo and Melanie, trying to find any sight of the either of them. I finally catch Melanie's hair dancing along the aisles as she runs past them, running from Leonardo. Her face explodes into soft and quiet giggles when he finally catches up with her.
I roll my eyes at Melanie, but I look at Leonardo and see his charming smile. While witnessing that smile, I almost forgot everything he did. Almost. I let my smile drop as soon as I remember and I begin to head over into the aisles surrounding them, so that there I can at least have a chance to maybe have a quick chat.
I pretend to be marking down a couple of books on my little journal in the aisle behind them, waiting to be noticed at least. After a couple of minutes I finally hear footsteps leaving the aisle and coming on to the next. I can feel the hope rushing back into my heart, but I don't let it show. I keep my face focused on the "work" in front of me.
I hear soft footsteps coming closer to me, and then I remove my gaze from the journal in front of me, to the ground beneath me, on my right side. I see a pair of pink shoes, belonging to a small girl, and I automatically know who it is!
"Hi nice lady!" I hear her voice chirp.
"Hello sweetie!" I say as I turn to face her, putting on smile number 4, a small and soft smile.
"I'm here with my dad! He promised to buy me another book! Which one should I get?" She asks as she holds up to books in front of me. Both of them reek of young teen novels. The glittery covers, the crushes on the popular boys, the shy girl, the backstabbing bitch of the school.
"Hmm, this one seems very interesting." I say as I point to the book that's bright pink, has glitter covering a couple of different parts of the cover, bright yellow font.
"I thought so too! I'm so excited to read it!" Melanie exclaims as she puts the other book that she was holding up on the bookshelf. I could feel the annoyance rise through me. This brat seems like an active reader, so I'm sure she wasn't stupid enough to put a book somewhere where it didn't belong, yet here she was, doing that exact thing.
My thoughts are interrupted as I hear footsteps coming down this way, and I look up to see Leonardo and some beautiful woman beside him.
This shit couldn't happen again! I refuse to believe it.
Thank you so much for reading! I appreciate it! 🥰
