"What are you doing out here?" Someone asked, and I looked up to see a boy in Slytherin robes with dark hair.
"Painting won't let me in." He looked at the painting and tutted.
"Dorian, you douchebag." The painting shrugged.
"Who are you coming to see?" He asked.
"Draco Malfoy, do you know him?"
"Of course. The password is ambition by the way. We keep having to change it because somehow the Gryffindors worked out what it was last year and kept leaving some stupid pranks." He turned to the painting. "THAT is who you should be keeping out Dorian."
"If they have the password, who am I to stop them?" Dorian flicked his wrist and opened the door.
"Where do i recognise you from?" I asked.
"Oh right yeah, should introduce myself shouldn't I? I'm Adrian, did you come to the last quidditch game?"
"Yeah I did, are you the one whose been skipping practice to drink hot chocolates?"
"I have no shame in it. Did Draco tell you?" I nodded.
"Shown me one of the little comics too - you are quite the artist."
"Ah yes, it's how I get the ladies." He joked, motioning behind him at the imaginary crowd of adoring fans. He was actually cute, likely in an older year, I considered mentioning him to some of the other girls in my dorm who were thinking about dates.
There was a lot of chatter in the Slytherin common room, and the ball seemed to be at the center of everybody's minds.
"It's silly for them to be forcing us to have dancing lessons - Father taught me how to ball dance when I was three." One of the girls commented loudly from across the room. As i scanned the room for Draco I listened into a group of second year boys.
"Why don't girls ask us?"
"Oh don't be such a coward."
I spotted Draco with a group in the corner of the room, his eyes where closed as he ignored whatever they where saying. I went over.
"Elena!" Blaise greeted me cheerily.
"Blaise!" I mimicked him. Draco opened his eyes.
"Not seen you in a while, what have you been up to?" He asked.
"Oh it's been really interesting - I've been sat outside the common room for the last 20 minutes because that painting wouldn't let me in." Blaise and Pansy laughed.
"How did you get in?"
"Oh that Adrian guy took pity on me."
"Sorry about that, after lunch everyone's landed here and not shut up about the ball." Pansy threw a spare pillow on the sofa Draco was sat on. I sat down at the end of it, curling up a bit.
"Is this that muggle book you have been reading?" Draco asked, taking it and looking it over.
"Mhmmm."
"You know there's wizard books you can read, right?"
"Oh it's romance Draco, it's the same whether it's a muggle book or a wizarding book." I rolled my eyes. He opened it and flicked through it.
"This is written like one of our history extracts."
"I told you, it's a seventeenth century author. A pretty famous one too."
"Go on Draco, read some of it to us." Pansy said.
"It's a play Pansy."
"How many characters do we need?" Draco shrugged and turned to a page I had marked earlier in the play.
