"Sorry to crush your hopes, but it seems our dates have run away together." Draco said.

"Are you serious?"

"It would be a shit joke if I wasn't."

"Adrian and Hannah? Really?" Draco winced and tilted his head.

"Well I may have.... encouraged them running away together."

"Draco...."

"Given them a little nudge in that direction."

"And why would you do that?"

"I have a reputation to uphold you know! I'm afraid the disco dress was too much for me." He out his hand to his chest as if suggesting his heart couldn't take it.

"However it happened, now we are both two lonely suckers."

The hall was now getting busy and McGonnagal ushered people to make a pathway down the middle of the hall. Shushing followed. The two large doors at the end of the room opened and each champion came in with their date on their arm. There was an awkward silence before the music started and as it did I watched Harry awkwardly try to work out where to put his hands. I cringed watching it. Thankfully teachers then joined in and students followed.

"I don't know about that." Draco leaned in to say as a waft of his cologne came across me. I raised my eyebrow at him. "Two lonely people sometimes cancels out you know."

"Depends."

"On what?!"

"If I decide to put up with you for the evening." I heard Lavender chuckling next to me.

"I'm going to ignore that. Besides, if i'm remembering halloween correctly didn't you say that a party isn't a party without dancing?"

"Using my own words against me, you are a cruel boy Draco Malfoy." I squinted at him.

"The cruelest." He offered his hand and I took it. It was surprisingly cold but smooth and I let him lead me into the dance floor. He kept shuffling through crowds.

"We ought to be in the middle." He said, then twirling me under his arm.

"And why is that?" He placed one hand on my shoulder and the other on my waist.

"To make sure everyone can see us and be jealous."

"You had better dance well then."

"I'll take that as a challenge." After a few turns he swapped hands, then picked me up and spun me as high as he could then we danced around each other until the song drew to a close, careful not to tred on my skirt. Slowly the center of the room became largely the purebloods making use of the years of ballroom dance lessons, as they all swirled around each other it became a blur of tull skirts, colors twisting together. I felt the energy rising to the roof, like the heat of competitiveness was growing like an organism. The twists became sharper, he lifted me higher and spun me faster yet with every spin there was be that split second where our eyes would meet again. He didnt miss that moment once. I knew that he could feel the others around us as they also tried to show off, and as much as he rose to that challenge not once did I turn back from a spin or a lift did I not meet intense grey eyes. As the dance grew to an end and the final buildup happened I could see his eyes start to smile even where his face didn't. I flashed my eyes for a second as if to say "Are we ending this with a bang?" to which he gave a subtle nod. He lifted his arm and spun me once last time before swiftly moving into the final dip. We held it for just a second before softly spinning out. There was complete silence in the hall as the final note rang out. Me and Draco stood opposite each other. A cheeky grin on his face as he brought his hand to his chest and bowed, to which I curtsied. We both knew we definitely won that.
