I hadn't realised how much I had begun to anticipate Dracos letters, even after such a short time of receiving them. We haven't spoken all week, ever since we both agreed to attend the ball with other people. I don't know who he is going with, and as jealous as I would feel to know if he wrote me to tell me with a little update on the smaller details of his life it would balance I think. I have probably reread his other letters enough times to have them committed to memory. Now they lay tucked into the trunk at the end of my bed, buried deep enough to tell I'm forcing myself to stop looking at them.
At the end of the day I'm ashamed of myself for feeling like this, I've always been described as a soft character (perhaps even a bit weak). At the end of the day I deserve an actual date to the ball, as does he. I told all the girls about Adrian, who seems to successfully charmed them into approval. Today is the seventeenth of december, and the snow has turned to slush smothering the grounds with a thick slushee like texture.
Me and Adrian have had a few short conversations this week in the hallways, but I spend most of my time reading. Harry, Hermione and Rob caught wind of me and Adrian going together which settled a lot of their curiosity.
I agreed to go to hagrids bi-weekly tea with the trio, which was tonight. As usual, Harry and Hermione slipped under the cloak, me and Ron deciding to be in the open due to less fear of getting into trouble. We were gently tip toeing around and i was looking down at my hands, fidgeting. I heard scuffling and looked up to where Ron had been a few seconds ago puzzled to see he had disappeared. I was about to whisper out to Harry and Hermione to work where they where when I saw a lamp flicker just around a nearby corner and froze. A hand grabbed my wrist and pulled me back around the corner and down towards the floor. I held in a gasp of surprise and their cold fingers kept a hold of me. I stayed very still in the dark shadowy hallway as footsteps gradually faded into the distance.
"Pay attention to where your going."
I felt my breathe hitch. I had expected Rons voice, but I also wouldn't have been surprised to hear Harry's or Hermiones. We were still crouched down, and i turned my back to the wall and looked into a shadowy pair of gray eyes.
"What are you doing here?" He huffed, slightly annoyed.
"A thank you would have sufficed. Where are you off to at this time of night, princess?" My eyebrows went up.
"Princess?"
"What? Would you prefer hobgoblin?"
"Oh stop being a jerk, and don't call me princess."
"Whatever you say, princess. So where are you off to?" He seemed pleased with himself for irritating me. Was he this irritating last I saw him or is this a new development? My eyes flashed around the corridoor to try and work out where Ron was hiding but couldn't see where he was. I began to wonder if Harry and Hermione were watching.
"I'm not inclined to tell you that, you know. You have gotten pretty cocky since we last talked."
"Ohoohoo, gotten pretty bold since we last talked. What's the big mystery huh? Off to make out with your new boyfriend?"
"He's not my boyfriend. And no."
"Whose not your boyfriend?"
"Adrian. That's who you where implying, right?"
"Oh, forgot about him." He went quiet for a moment while he thought and I pulled my arm from his grasp which he let away easily.
"What about you? You said you where thinking about getting a date or asking someone... or something." I tried to remember his exact words, failing.
"Why do you want to know?"
"We are still friends, aren't we?"
"Hannah Wilkes." I vaguely recognised the name, I think she has come to a few movie nights.
"Ravenclaw?" I asked to establish if we were talking about the same person. He nodded. I was about to ask where he was going, but remembered he was likely going to the kitchens to talk to Dobby. I wondered to myself if he had anything in particular he wanted to talk about. Perhaps I would know if he wrote me once in a while.
"I should get going." I whispered, softly under my breath. It was like all the air from my lungs had disappeared, I was so quiet I wasn't sure if he would even hear me.
"Yeah." He whispered, then clearing his throat and speaking up "Yeah. I'll see you around Cunningham." He stood up straight, dusting himself off. I remembered that Harry and Hermione where probably watching somewhere, so dropped my voice as quiet as i thought he could possibly make out.
"Draco?"
"Yeah?"
"Write me, please?" I saw him pause for a moment, processing what I said. Maybe just trying to work out what I had said because of how quietly it was said. Eventually he nodded, and turned to walk down the hall fixing his tie as he went.
Once he was fully out of sight I saw Ron pop his head around a statue further down the hall - clearly where he had been hiding.
"That was a bloody close call, wasn't it? Wouldn't be the first time Malfoy ratted us out." Ron stretched his arms above his head.
"Yeah, close." I repeated half listening.
"Come on out then, where are you guys?" Ron said spinning around looking into thin air. A hand popped out for a second and waved.
"We're here." Hermiones voice came out of the darkness. "Did Malfoy tell you what he's up to?" she asked. I shook my head. They grumbled about how weird it was for a minute before we hurridly went to Hagrids hut.
The tea party was pretty sweet, little cupcakes and flowery tea cups. Hagrid spent a lot of it telling us about dragons and how he got to see them all up close after the first tournament. Thankfully I wasn't required to speak much, as my head was completely consumed wondering what Draco and Dobby where talking about, and if I would ever get a letter telling me. The other thing on my mind was Hannah Wilkes. Something in my mind is telling me she is the short brunette girl who always wear headbands and critiques how historically accurate period pieces are. I wondered how he asked her.

I've been spending a lot of time in the Gryffindor common room, where Fred and George were currently using boxes to make a maze to try and get Hermiones cat to go through (a decent maze, but Crookshanks looks at it with disgust much to the twins disappointment). When I got back to my room I felt the hairs on my arms prick up, scattering goosebumps all across my skin. I glanced around to try and workout why the room was so cold and saw an open window. I rubbed my arms and pulled it closed. On my bed was a small folded up note. I unfolded it.Come to kitchens at midnight. - Draco Malfoy
