Kenma's POV:
We finished dinner and brought our bags upstairs to my room. My mom was working on finishing pumping up the air mattress as we got set up for me to tutor him. It was about 8pm at this point. When she finished, my mom said goodnight to us both, humming as she closed the door, and returned downstairs.
Kuroo put his arms up onto the door frame leading from my room into the bathroom and stretched, his shirt lifting up slightly in the process. I looked away. "Kenma do you mind if I shower first? You know I can't"-
"Yeah, Yeah, I know, you can't concentrate on school work if you're sweaty." This had always been the case, as weird as it was.Kuroo went to get some of his clothes that he kept in my room out of the wardrobe and headed to the bathroom. I waited until I was fully confident he was in the shower before going in there to wash my face. I then proceeded to get some toothpaste on my toothbrush.
"Oy Kenma? Are you in here?"
"Yes, I am."
"Could you hand me a towel please?"
"Oh right, yeah one second."
I looked around the bathroom but the towels were all gone.
"Hold on Kuro, my mom must be washing them. Let me go get one from her bathroom."
I ran downstairs quickly and retrieved a towel.
"Here you go," I said with my eyes covered, handing him the towel behind the shower curtain.
He stepped out, just the towel around his waist.
I nearly choked on my toothpaste. "I-, oh my god, couldn't you have waited for me to leave??" I said looking the other direction as I continued to brush my teeth.
"Too late now" he responded with a smirk I caught through the mirror.
I glanced back over
to see him putting some shaving cream on as he quickly shaved what little facial hair he had."What the-"
I came up from spitting the toothpaste into the sink, "hm?" I didn't know what he was asking about.
"What's wrong with your eyes??"
"My eyes?" I looked into the mirror, slightly worried.
"Yeah! Why are they so... little?"
He asked this bending down and cupping my chin with his hand, turning my head from side to side in an attempt to figure out what was different.
Yet again my face went hot. He was so close to me, still dripping with water, in just a towel. I stuttered, confused and hoping he wouldn't notice, or at least just think it was from the steam.
"Uhm, well I washed my face? So..."my voice trailed off as I realized. Kuroo had probably not seen me without eyeliner in a long time.Typically I only washed my face in the mornings, unless I had gotten really sweaty after practice, and since it was winter, the gyms heating was on 24/7.
"...So, my eyeliner probably rubbed off? Is that what's missing" I tried to keep my cool as I explained. What would he say after figuring out I wear makeup? It's not that weird through, right? I thought he already knew.
"Whoa! You look so different!!" He exclaimed, standing back up, hands on hips, but still looking at me.
"Yeah, well, you look like a wet dog when there's no gel in your hair, so..." I replied.
"Okay pudding head."
I hated when anyone besides him called me that.
"Don't call me that."
"Oh you love it," he joked, though not far off. After some time we went back to my room. Kuroo took out his textbook and notes and I got out my mini whiteboard and a marker.
"I think it's badass you wear eyeliner Kenma." He said that so nonchalantly it surprised me.
How was I supposed to respond to that?
"It looks really good on you" Why was my stomach churning?
Why was I so flustered?
It was just a compliment.
"Oh," I said quietly "thanks."I tutored Kuroo for about an hour and a half until he felt pretty confident on the subject matter.
He stared back down at his work, turning his pencil across each finger. Kuroo then looked over at my alarm clock, "Yeah, I think I'm about done with this. What about you?"
"If you feel confident then I'm fine with stopping too." We proceeded to pack up our school bags and moved them by the door.
