Reese's POV…
Everyone knew that Avery was being followed but only I knew by whom. I came to find this out when Emily came and informed me that some weird-ass dude keeps wanting to see her but never without the twins with her.
Flashback started
“Go ahead and set up the meeting Emily,” I reply.
“But what if something goes wrong?” She asked, sounding a little hesitant.
“Don't worry August, and I will be close by to protect you guys,” I say hoping to relieve her anxiety.
“Umm… okay.” She finally agrees in a shaky voice.
“Emily you have to act normal so that he won't think that anything is up,” I instructed her as she began to dial a number in her phone.
The following day… Saturday at noon.
August and I showed up at Sunshine Park an hour before it was time for Emily to me this RJ fella. We were sitting in the park in an old, beat up, dirty, truck that August had just purchased a few weeks ago. This truck had dark tinted windows that wielded several cracks in the front and a busted headlight on the driver's side.
The black, rustic paint was peeling badly and the inside seats were all tattered and torn. They looked as though someone had purposely ripped them to shreds. It made the perfect hideout car because no one would expect to see me riding around in something as worn out as this.
August and I sat silently in the car waiting on Emily to arrive at the park with the twins. To our surprise, she came alone carrying a large picnic basket and a nervous smile on her face. She kept looking around her before spreading a green blanket out on the grass and then sitting on top of it. She began to fidget with the hem of her blouse when a man wearing a yellow ball cap, black polo shirt, and yellow shorts carrying a young boy that looks to be about the twin's age began to approach her.
Standing to her feet she placed a smile on her face as she stretched out her arm towards the small child. The man was smiling at first until he didn't see the twins anywhere near Emily. His forced smile reappeared when he turned back to Emily but I could clearly see the anger that he had bottled up inside of him shimmering in his eyes after he took his shades off.
Instantly realization of who he was fell upon me like a hammer driving a nail home. “Jonas Riley,” the man that Taylor was supposed to have married a few years ago, was standing before Emily holding a conversation. This was the same man who blamed me for his failed attempt at marrying the daughter of his father's business partner.
I immediately called Emily and told her to make up an excuse to leave. August and I both sat up straight with our hands gripping the door handle after I got off the phone. I don't know what we were expecting to happen when he had a small toddler perched in his arm, but we were ready to defend Emily. She quickly made her exit to her car and pulled out of the parking lot.
“Are you going to inform everyone about what is going on?” August asked me while we stayed behind to watch this scumbag a few minutes longer.
“No, I will handle him myself!” I responded then called my father-in-law as we backed out of the parking lot.
“Do you know anyone that you trust with your life that can guard the twins for a little while?” I asked without saying hello.
“Is my grand baby's life in danger?” He immediately asked me.
“Yes!” I answered.
“I'll get two of my old army buddies along with my brothers-in-law Malcolm, Brian, and Alex to help me to protect my babies.” He states then ended the call.
