"Jake," I almost screeched out, "what are you doing here?"
"Bells, I'm sorry for scaring you but I had a feeling you were up to something, I followed you from Charlie's."
I suddenly became filled with betrayal.
"You don't trust me Jake?", I wimpered out.
"Oh please, he said with an eye roll, I'm your best man and there's no way you were going to go without me."
I suddenly realized he knew what I was up to.
"Jake, I stammered, I can do this myself."
He looked down at the wet grass with a face that was so frightened but fearful at the same time. He snapped his head up and glared at me.
"I love her too, he remminded me, I'm going with you."
I loved the dedication in his voice but more importantly his heart. I walked up to him and gave him a hug while holding my breath. He saw my face and started laughing, he then told me that everyone was preoccupied in the house and it was safe to go off together.
Edward was playing a sweet lullaby for Renesmee on the piano. Carlisle and Esme were in my library going through all of the new and exciting books Edward had given me. Alice and Jasper were out hunting south of us and Jake said he had Leah on their trail just to make sure. Rosalie and Emmett made a trip to France, she always wanted to go there. Seth was keeping guard at the house.
He had told everyone he was going hunting and Edward had offered to come along but Jake denied him saying that he wanted to be alone although he kept his head clear so that Edward couldn't read it. I thanked him repeatedly for that.
That night the forest was unbelievably dark and gloomy not that we couldn't see but it was a very eerie sight to say the least. I had a gut feeling that something was going to happen tonight although I had no idea if it was good or bad.
We made our way through the darkened woods, sniffing for trails and trying to find anything out of the ordinary. We moved fast and swiftly enough that no human or animal would be able to catch us if they dared. Suddenlly I came across an old tattered red scarf. Jacob saw me and hurried over right away. It smelled strongly of a sweet blooded human, especially with the human blood all over it. I jumped back suddenly realizing the scarf itself was intended to be white but the bright, crimson redness of blood had soaked right through it. This was bad. This was beyond bad.
This vamp errr killer was on the loose. We're we so sure that it was indeed a vampire? Could it possibly be a human? Whatever it was it was very dangerous and Jacob and I were coming up on a new trail quickly that could lead us right to him.
