Tomas invites me to lunch at one of the cute little cafes my family and I passed as we went grocery shopping.

We spend ages there chatting away the minutes. Starting with the weather all the way to ex-boyfriends.

I'm half way through my chicken salad when a girl comes towards us.

Lean and blonde with light blue eyes, and dressed as if she was wearing no shorts.

She sees Tomas, and her eyes brighten up and she quickly runs to our booth, and kisses him on the cheek. She starts with nonstop talking.

"Babe, I didn't get to see you much at all this week. This girl was totally hitting on you last-" Blah blah blah.

The rest was all to boring.

"Sorry Jen but I'm having some lunch with my new neighbor." Tomas says quickly as Jen takes a breath.

I smile and introduce myself "Hi, I'm Mia,"

"Hey, I'm Jennifer but you can call me Jen. I'm Tomas' girlfriend." She responds.

Girlfriend, huh?

"So I hear you moved from Texas. Why did you move here?" Then I hear the tone of jealousy in her voice. It was like behind her words she was seeing if I could potentially ruin her relationship.

"Well, my father got a promotion for his job, so we had to move here." I smile sweetly at her.

Tomas looks at his girlfriend then at me. "Well Tomas, are you ready for our date today?" She says. A date? Today? Really, can she like not see me sitting here, or am I invisible to her?

I just smile towards her again. "I'm kind of having lunch already with Mia." Tomas says, while he rubs the back of his neck, smiling sheepishly.

"Oh, but you promised Tomas." Jennifer starts to pout.

"Sorry Jen, but I also promised Mia, that I'd show her around." I see the hurt but she quickly masks it.

"So.. What about tomorrow two o'clock?" She glares at me as if it was my fault.

"Sorry, I'm going to show Mia the park and the community library tomorrow." Tomas grins.

My heart pounds hard against my chest. I can't believe he would rather spend the day with me than her.

"Fine, have fun Tomas. We'll have lunch together another day." Jennifer says harshly. She turns, then flaunts away.

"Shouldn't you have lunch with her, she's your girlfriend?" I ask.

Tomas responds "Well, she's been kind of clingy ever since we started dating and it's fun to hang out with a new neighbor." Tomas gives me a cheeky grin and nudges my shoulder.

I can't stop myself from grinning and laughing at his ridiculous face. In a few minutes we're both laughing, we stop when our stomachs start hurting.

"No seriously, you need to go with her. You hardly know me." I say feeling just a little guilt from occupying someone's boyfriend.

"Well that's why I need to get to know you better," Tomas says.

"Plus you're fun to be around." He adds.

He gives me wink and then laughs it off casually.
