It's Saturday, two more days till a new high school. I don't think I'm going to survive. A new school, new people, new teachers. Just thinking about it makes me feel sick to my stomach.
The doorbells goes off, I immediately know who it is. I open the door to a wide smiling Tomas, who is holding a puppy. "Hey Mia. This is Clover." Tomas exclaims. I reach over and pet her. "So what are we doing today? You are my only friend, so what do you want to do?" I say quickly. He grins and says "Let's go to the movies or the mall." I give him a weird expression, and he suddenly knows what I was thinking. "No no, not like that, just as friends." He rushes his words. I shrug and I let him and his puppy in.
"So what do you want to do now?" Tomas asks. "How bout you help me unpack? Now I can get to know you." I immediately blush. But Tomas doesn't realize. "Sure, why not." He says when he puts a book on the table. "So how's your parents?" I say, unable to think of anything else. "Their good, not around much, because they're in the FBI." Tomas replies. "That's why I've never seen them." I say. He just nods and pulls more books out.
Silent takes over us and all we here is our footsteps on the tiles and books being stacked on the shelf or placed on the table.
"So are you excit-" Tomas says right about when I turn to pull a book out and slam right into Tomas. Whoops. Oh no. We both fall to the ground, stunned. He's on top of me, he doesn't move forward or move away. He just stays there. The house is silent and nothing moves, not even us. His eyes search mine, and it feels like it's whispering something, I couldn't make out what it was though. I thought when he was going to close the gap, Clover starts to bark. Tomas springs off me quickly, and offers a hand to me.
There's a awkward pause between us. Causing us to both look away, blushing madly. Tomas mumbles a quiet apology, and quickly turns to put books on to the shelf and table again. Silence fills the air, all the sound is coming from the shuffling of our feet, and our fast breaths. A hour passes and Tomas eventually breaks the silence. "Hey, Mia I got to go, see ya at school." He says quickly, not looking me into the eyes, and rushing through the door.
