30. Husband!

Two days later
M A N I K

"Hey beautiful. If you don't mind can I get to know your name?" I had just entered the cafe and this was the very first thing I heard. No that line wasn't for me. It was for Nandini.

An annoying bug was bugging around her and I felt my insides burn."My-" Nandini started but I cut her in middle.

"Honey." I called, as I reached her. She looked at me with a confused expression. Ignoring her look, I looked at the guy.

"Oh, you had a boyfriend!"

"No you are wrong. I am not her boyfriend. I am her husband." I said, sitting beside her. She chuckled at my lines before looking at that guy and shrugging.

She had agreed to be my pretend girlfriend, not that I thought of her as one. For me she was the only one for me. In fact yesterday my dad and her dad even decided on our engagement dates. Everything was moving quite fast but I was really happy.

The guy didn't say anything and left. "What was that? Were you jealous?"

"No I wasn't." I denied, taking off my mask. "I just thought you were being bothered by that guy."

"Such poor lying skills." She shook her head lightly and I couldn't help but smile. She was still the same.

"I am not lying. Weren't you bothered by that guy?" I looked at her.

"Well I am not sure as to if I was bothered or not. May be I was enjoying it." She said with a playful grin.

"I need to add one more clause in the agreement. No flirting with anyone else." I stated firmly. We even had secretly signed an agreement regarding the do's and don'ts.

"That's so cruel of you." Right then a ghost with a cut on her head appeared outside the cafe window. I flinched as my eyes met with the ghost and I immediately turned away.

"What happe-" Nandini's words died probably on seeing the ghost. "Honey I am sorry."

What was she suddenly sorry about?

Confused, I looked up at her and I realized the ghost was right beside us, sitting on the table.

"Can you see me?" The ghost bent to look at me and right then Nandini gently held my face in between her palm and made me look at her. I could feel my cheeks burn under her touch. Damn her one touch was all I needed.

"I shouldn't have said that. Were you that scared that I would leave you?" She said.
I then realized Nandini was putting on an act so as to make the ghost think that I flinched not because of her.

"I won't ever say that. So it's okay. Don't be scared. I am there with you." She assured and somehow those words made me feel good. I didn't think much I moved a little closer to her and hugged her tightly.

"Thank you for everything." I whispered and she gently patted my shoulder. "Thank you."

"Hah lovesick teenagers." I heard the ghost say.

"The ghost's gone." Nandini said after a moment or few later. I unwillingly let her out of my embrace and suddenly I felt cold. I felt like hugging her all over again.

"You seriously need training as to how to avoid ghosts." Nandini folded her arms around her chest.

'All I need is you.' was what I wanted to say but I didn't.

"Training?"

She shook her head lightly. "Yes training. I am surprised as to how you have survived past all the ghosts till now. When you see them even though you are scared you shouldn't show it on your face and when your eyes meet instead of looking away you should act normal as though you are looking past them and not at them."

"I know that. But they just scare me." I looked down and she held my hand lightly.

"It's okay Manik. I know you can do it with a little practice. And why fear when I am here?"

"Yeah you are here." I smiled softly before tightening my hold in her hand.

"Hey isn't that Manik Malhotra?" I heard someone say. Damn not now. I pulled down my cap, trying to hide my face. Why did I open my mask?

"Hey stop eyeing my husband, will you?" Nandini said and I suddenly felt good all over again. She called me her husband.

The girls walked past me. "He really looked like Manik. But well I guess he wasn't." I heard one of them say.

"It must really be suffocating to wear cap and mask all the time."

"No, it's fine." I lied. It really was suffocating at times. Being popular came with a condition, that was interference in my personal life.

"Such poor lying skills." She pouted and I lightly pulled her cheek. "You always look through my lies. Do you perhaps have some lie detecting skill."

"Wow how did you know?" She smiled cheekily. "We have only known each other for a few days and you already know me so well."

This was the very line she had said to me once. That time I had replied back to her rudely saying that, 'We have only known each other for a few days but we already have so many regrets.'

Unlike then I smiled. "Yup I know you very well my dear little bug."

"Bug! Hey why am I a bug?"

"Because-" I paused grinning. "You just are."

"No I am not."

"Yes you are."

She huffed. "Okay then you are a monster. An arrogant monster who doesn't even know how to differentiate between human and bug."

My smile widened. "If I am a monster what if I eat you up?"

"Try eating me. Come on give it a try." She said bending a little towards me.

I held her face in between my palm before gently planting a kiss on top of her forehead, making her eyes go wide.

"This much is okay for now."

"These guys are really really love struck." The ghost appeared out of nowhere behind Nandini, making me jump at my place.

"Monster." Nandini said before throwing her hands around my neck and pulling me into her embrace. I could hear the ghost gushing over our chemistry and suddenly we were surrounded by two more ghost. "They look cute together." I heard one say.

Damn our romance was being witnessed by ghosts. Well I guess it's really going to be freaking romance.
