You and Mystery didn't do much for the next few days. You were definitely beginning to feel more effects of the sickness, so you usually slept most of the day. Mystery didn't mind at all, in fact he encouraged you to do so. Though of course, he didn't complain when you told him you were feeling a little better and finally did get up. It was beginning to get dark when Mystery told you he had yet another idea.
"What is it?" You asked, sitting down on the floor, clutching a few of his drawings in your hand.
"There's one more thing Mystery wants to show you- and don't worry, Mystery will think you will like this much better than the last thing!" You set the drawings down, neatly stacking them before getting up and following him.
You both arrived at... yet another door that was unfamiliar to you. Unsurprising, this place was seemingly infinite. But, Mystery opened the door to reveal a flight of stairs. You knew there was more than one floor to the hospital, but you had never been to any of the other floors before. You remembered on the first day you came here you had found an old elevator, though of course, it didn't work anymore. Even if it did still work you definitely wouldn't have trusted it anyway.
"Hellooo? Are you coming?" Mystery snapped you out of your thoughts. He had already begun to climb the stairs.
"Yeah, I'm right behind you." You followed him up.
Mystery passed the second floor, then the third, and fourth. You had begun to wonder where he was taking you. Finally, you both reached the very end of the stairs. There was a single door, similar to one of the doors that led outside. Mystery swung it open with a shove. It opened to reveal what looked to be the roof of the hospital, with a clear open view of the sky. Though it was night, the rain from earlier had completely cleared up leaving a cloudless sky. It was gently illuminated by the nearly full moon along with some specks of stars. Though the roof itself was plain and barren, the sparkling night sky above transformed the scene completely. It was beautiful.
"You seemed to like the garden, so Mystery thought you would like it out here, too." He said, his boots making sort of a deep clicking sound as he walked on the concrete roof, which was still partially slick with rainwater. You walked out as well, your eyes fixed on the sky. Finally, you managed to tear your eyes away from above to look around the rooftop. It was empty, even when you got a greater view of it. The only things on the rooftop were two small maybe eight by eight concrete buildings pressed closely together, which probably held all the electrical controls of the building or something of the sort. You walked towards the ledge of the roof, looking down at the ground below. You were really high up. Suddenly, you felt Mystery place a hand on your shoulder.
"Be careful, don't fall..." He said with concern, leading you away from the ledge. You returned your focus to the sky, once again taking in its beauty. Mystery looked up as well.
"It's really pretty..." You finally said. Mystery let out a sigh.
"Yeah..." You found a spot on the roof that wasn't wet and sat down, Mystery soon doing the same.
"Sometimes I forget how beautiful the sky can be." You said. "I could look at it forever..." You heard Mystery gasp from beside you.
"Mystery will be right back! He has an idea!" You watched Mystery rush back into the building. The roof fell silent after his footsteps faded away. The only sound that could be heard was the rustle of leaves from the trees surrounding the hospital in the gentle breeze. You wished Mystery had brought you up there sooner.
"Mystery's back!" You heard Mystery emerge from the stairwell. You looked over to see him holding a few pillows and blankets, along with Mago. You got up and he set down the pillows and blankets on the rooftop. He set Mago down beside them.
"There! Now we will be more comfortable!" You laid down on one of the blankets, resting your head on the pillow. Although it wasn't the most comfortable, it was still nice. The view of the sky made it worth it, anyway. You felt Mystery lay down beside you.
You both looked at the sky for a long time, maybe a few hours at least. You and Mystery talked for a while and pointed out a few constellations you saw. It doesn't sound like much, but honestly there laying on top of that roof with Mystery, was probably the most relaxed and carefree you had ever been. Despite everything that had happened in the past few days, you were not stressed or worried. The only thing your mind focused on was the sky above you and Mystery. It felt nice to just live in the moment. You wished life was like that all the time.
"I'm getting a little tired." You yawned. "But I don't want to go back inside..." You mentioned, sitting up as if trying to keep yourself awake. Mystery sat up as well and turned his head towards you.
"Then why don't we just sleep out here? We have blankets and stuff!"
"Hmm, that's actually a pretty good idea. I've never slept under the stars before." You said. A few minutes passed by.
"Hey Y/N?" You heard Mystery quietly ask as if he were scared he would startle you if he spoke too loudly.
"Yeah?" You responded.
"Are we... still friends?" He asked, even quieter than his last question.
"What? What do you mean?" You were a little confused by his question.
"Are we still just friends?" He asked again. You thought about it for a second. You know you had told him that just a couple of days ago but it felt like it had been much longer, perhaps it was because so much had changed since then. You really didn't know how to respond.
"I... I don't know..." You replied. Mystery seemed a bit disappointed with your answer.
"Why?" You asked him.
"Mystery... just wanted to know..." He trailed off. You turned to look back up at the sky but felt Mystery scoot a bit closer to you. You looked back to him to see what he was doing when you were suddenly pulled into a kiss. It was much less forced than last time, in fact it wasn't really forced at all. You were a bit surprised but didn't pull away even though you were able to. Instead, you sank into the kiss. He pulled away after a few seconds.
"I love you." He said as his eyes met yours. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into his chest. You wrapped your arms around him as well.
"I love you, too."
