Chapter Two

"Mum! Dad!" I spread my arms as soon as my eyes landed on mommy and daddy. They are on the kitchen and they're having their breakfast.

Mommy stood up and welcome me.

"I miss you mum!" I said as I'm hugging her.

I let go of her and went to daddy.

"Dad, I miss you!" I said as I hug him too.

"We miss you too Avery. How's your flight? I'm glad maaga ka nakarating." Saad ni mommy at umupo sa kaniyang upuan.

Natigilan yata ako ng ilang segundo bago nakasagot.

"Yes mum, I'm so glad too." Saad ko at hilaw na napangiti.

My eyes roam at the surrounding. Bakit tahimik ang bahay? Bakit walang guard na sumalubong? And where is our maids? We used to have two maids.

"Mum, where are they? Our maids? The guard?" I asks as I sat on the available chair.

"Here have, eat." Mum said and gave me  a plate. May fried egg at hotdog sa hapag. I immediately eat. I'm so hungry and tired. Halos hindi ako nakatulog kagabi.

"Honestly Ave, we lost all of them." dad said at inilapag ang baso sa lamesa. He is having his coffee.

"What do you mean dad? Mum?" I look at mommy at umiwas lang ito ng tingin.

"Wala na tayong maids at guard. Hindi ko na sila kayang bigyan ng sweldo." Natigilan ako sa sa pagnguya. What is he talking about?

Nalilito na tumingin ako kay mommy. She sighed.

"Avery, we are losing our company dear. Gusto na itong bilhin ng isang mayaman na negosyante. At iniisip namin ng daddy mo na tuluyan na nga itong isuko. We have lots of debts to be paid. Isa pa, humihina ang negosyo." Mommy said as she turn down her face.

Namutla ako at napatingin kay daddy.

"Papayag kayo dad? We can do something about this. How about the marriage your talking about dad? I'm willing." Saad ko na boses matapang. I know I'm not willing okay? But seeing my parents down. What can I do?

"Avery I know your not." Saad ni daddy.

I shake my head.

"I am dad. For our business. For our family. For our legacy." I said.

Mommy sighed and out her hand on my resting hand on the table.

"You uncle's and aunties, they're losing hope too. Hindi naman tayo lang ang mag dedesisyon dito Ave. Hindi lang tayo ang nagmamay-ari sa kompanya." Mommy said in a low tone.

She is right. Our business which manufactures papers, different types of writing papers is own by my late grand father. He is my dad's dad. My daddy is the eldest among his siblings kaya't siya ang naatasang mamahala nito pero lahat ay may shares as kompanya. All of them are working for the company too.

"Then sasabihin natin ito sa kanila. Who's the family?" I said then continue to eat my food. I don't want to see my parents sad. I want the best for them like how they have the best of best on me.

"It's the Guillermo." Daddy responded. Guillermo? Their sure name sounds familiar.

"They own the manufacturing of printing equipment Avery." Dad said, oh! Napatango ako. Kaya siguro gusto nilang i merge ang company namin.

"What did they said? Are they offering help to pay our debts?" I ask.

"Yes, they are offering help to save our company Ave." Mommy said and let go of my hands.

"Okay then. Dad, you must set a meeting with uncle's and aunties. I am willing to attend. After that, set a dinner with Guillermo, we'll tell them I'm in." Saad ko at uminom ng tubig.

Iniwasan ko ang mga mata nilang dalawa. I don't want to see them that I'm in doubt.

"How about Ivory? Where is Ivory dad?"

I asks. Dad cleared his throat.

"Well Ivory is having a part time job now. Nagtatrabaho siya sa mga Ilustre." Ilustre, well, that sure name is connected with hotel chains. Siguro'y one hundred hotel buildings ang pag mamay-ari nila all over the world. They are considered one of the richest family in the Philippines.

"Why? Pati ba si Ivory nahihirapan na financially?"

Umiwas ng tingin si mommy.

"We can no longer meet Ivory's daily allowance plus tuition. Napaka mahal pala ang eskwelahan niya. Ngayon lang namin napagtanto." Napahawak ako sa noo ko. I only work abroad for a good company. Hindi ako ganoon kayaman. Mum and dad are the rich among us.

I can't believe this. I can't stand knowing Ivory is working for her schooling. Noon ngang nag-aaral ako ni hindi ko naranasang mag working student. Mum and dad can provide me everything.

"Ganun ba, then we should be in a hurry dad. Tell me as soon makapag set ka na ng meeting. I'll just go upstairs, I want to rest po muna." I said and kiss their cheeks.

"I know this is against your plans Avery and I am thanking you for this. And also me and your mom is very sorry for what happened to you and y-your ex boyfriend. If only we were not too hard. I am so sorry." I can see sadness in dad's eyes. I don't know kung bakit nasali ang usapang ito ngayon.

Alexander came from a poor family who is a scholar in our school. I met him in my first year in college. We both shared the same feelings and he courted me months after. We became lovers for two years deeply madly in love. Until mum and dad force me to leave him at exactly the third year of our relationship. I'm so heart broken that time. He was so hurt too. He told me to wait for few years until we graduated but I just love more my mum and dad I can't lie to them. Pinanindigan ko, I broke up with him. After I graduated pinadala ako sa abroad to start my new life. I don't have any news for Alexander. Kagabi ko lang siya muling nakita.

I can't believe he got me. Nakuha niya na ang pagkababae ko. But then he saids he love me right?

But again, I am going to marry a Guillermo. So technically I can't still love him.

God, are we really not destined for each other?

Pwede ba 'yon? Kahit mahal na mahal niyo ang isa't-isa at nakikita mo na ang future mo kasama siya. Still you can't be together? Pwede ba 'yon? How about the essence of love them? What's the use of loving?

Tch.

I caress my head. Stop thinking Avery. Stop it.
