Minseon pouts at his mother, reading her sullen gaze fixed on him as she scrubbed his arms with his towel. She was frowning, deeply so, like something was festering in her mind.
The little boy pouts harder, and she notices how his face fell. She pinches his chin with a smile, though Minseon didn't see it reach her eyes. Still, he smiles back at her widely, the toddler liked to see his Mommy smile. He claimed it made him feel warm and fuzzy.
Hazel huffs, once again having to adjust herself as she knelt on the floor, her belly was getting in the way, which made it hard for her to lean over the bathtub and properly wash her son.
"Okay, Mama?" She heard his small voice, he must have heard her breathing hard. She feigned a smile, resisting the urge to wince at the ache in her knees and hips, which was slowly crawling up her back.
"Mommy's just fine, baby." She confirmed, which seemed to convince him enough. As soon as she'd freed one of his arms he was back to playing with his rubber hippo, giggling as water spewed from it's mouth once it was squeezed.
With the due date quickly approaching, it was getting harder for her to do as much as she used to. Things that would normally be a breeze for her now felt multitudes harder compared to how easily she could have executed them just a few weeks ago.
It was getting harder and harder to run after Minseon by herself. Not to mention, she was stuck at home to do the child-rearing, she having just started her maternity leave by request of her boss. Her condition had even started to affect her work ethic.
Of course pregnancy was temporary, but Hazel couldn't imagine the balancing act she'd have to perform just to stay on her toes. She could barely keep up with their older son without a newborn in her company. Things would only get harder.
Her back screams as the baby started to move, who was seeming to favor her already aching ribs. Hazel fights another wince of discomfort, sitting down on the floor and watching Minseon play with his bath toys to catch her breath. She wasn't sure how she was going to manage to get up by herself. But she'd cross that road when she'd get there, which, telling by how much the baby was moving inside, wasn't going to be as soon as she'd need it to be.
Downstairs, Hazel heard the door opening, and with it came the obnoxious chortles and bellowed laughter of her husband and his close friends. He was telling them bye, she assumed, hearing the polite and dismissive tone he was using. Eventually the door shut and the house had returned to it's mellow hum of quietness save for the light footsteps ascending the stairs.
She wasn't surprised to see her husband stick his head of thick ebony hair in the doorway. "Appa!" Minseon exclaimed excitedly, getting up and hopping eagerly in place, trying to make his way out of the bathtub to rush over to his father. Despite being covered in suds and soapy water, the toddler hardly seemed to care.
Jimin chuckled at his son's enthusiasm, moving further in, immediately he noticed his wife sat on the ground, her round bump poking out and seeming to make it difficult to sit up straight, so she sat with her hands behind her at an incline. Her face was a bit flushed, much like when she had one of her dizzy spells.
He gives Minseon's wet forehead a kiss before squatting down in front of Hazel. "Did you get dizzy again, babe?" He asked, the lilt of worry in his tone made Hazel meet his eyes, finding the sincerity there.
She didn't answer his inquiry, however. Instead, steering the conversation to a thought that had conquered her mind these past few weeks, ever since her daily tasks had started to get harder than usual. "Jimin, I've been meaning to talk to you-"
His phone buzzed and he pulled it from the pocket of his jeans, a grin spreading on his face. "Hold on, baby, I need to take this."
Hazel stared at him. Was it disbelief she felt? Or perhaps she had expected better than this. "Jimin-" she started.
