Chapter Twenty-seventy- Happy Endings

~~Cherish's point of view~~

Cherish: "You did what?"

Axel: "I murdered children."

Cherish: "Explain in detail."

Axel: "We were told that one of the guys we were looking for was in an abandoned warehouse. We staked it out for weeks. We knew that he had children there. It looked innocent. As we went into the building, these children started shooting at us. We fired back. I killed twelve children on my own. In the end, we saved 400."

Cherish: "You didn't murder them, Axel. You did your job."

Axel: "Doesn't mean that I don't feel like shit about it."

Cherish: "I understand. Did you think that would make a difference? That you doing your job would make me not want you?"

Axel: "That and lying to you. I wasn't honest with you from the beginning."

Cherish: "You told me you had secrets. I told you to let me decide that, right?"

Axel: "You did."

Cherish: "I'm choosing you. I want you, our child, and your children."

Axel: "I don't know what I did to deserve you. I thank God that I did. I love you so much, Cherish. I've never felt this way before."

Cherish: "I love you too. Axel, I want to marry you; both of us will learn along the way; neither of us is perfect. We are going to find things we don't like. We will have to accept it."

We pull into a driveway. The house is massive. As soon as he puts the car in park, he pulls me to him and kisses me.

Cherish: "Mmm."

I push him away.

Axel: "Why do you keep pushing me away?"

Cherish: "As a detective, you should know that having sex when children are present is illegal."

Axel: "Children?"

I nod my head towards the window.

He laughs.

Axel: "Juliana...."

Cherish: "If I wouldn't have seen her, that could have been very different."

Axel: "Ass and balls?"

Cherish: "Exactly. You've done something to me that I can't control. I want it all the time."

Axel: "What have you been doing?"

Cherish: "Toys."

Axel: "You won't need them anymore. I'm not going anywhere."

Cherish: "Open the door for your daughter."

He laughs and opens the door.

Axel: "Hey, jelly bean."

Juliana: "Dada."

She throws her hands up for him to pick her up. She immediately wraps her arms around his neck.

Axel: "I love you."
