It was the final and Lisa was watching Viv in a fully orange outfit with Viv's family and friends. She was super proud of her girlfriend for being in the final and she was playing really well. It was only the 60th minute but Viv had already scored a hat-trick. However the opposition were playing rough, especially against Viv as she the best player in the Dutch team. Then Viv got taken out but she wasn't moving. Lisa was getting worried, Viv had been taken out before in the game but she always got up quite quickly after. This time she was just laying there still on her stomach. The ref stopped the game and the medics were running on to the pitch. A tear started running down Lisa's cheek. Viv started moving a little after a couple minutes but they had to bring on the paramedics and the stretcher to take Viv off the field. The ref gave the player a red card for the foul and a free kick was given to the Dutch.
Lisa ran down to try and find Viv. Security allowed her past to the Dutch medical team. They said that Viv needed to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. Lisa got there just in time to be able to ride in the ambulance with Viv. She was going in and out of consciousness and was mumbling on about something but she wasn't making clear words or sentences. The paramedics gave her some painkillers and were strapping up her leg. It looked like Viv had a serious leg injury as well as a serious concussion. Lisa was terrified, she never wanted to see Viv like this, but was glad she was with her.
They got to the hospital and Viv was taken off somewhere and Lisa was ushered away by hospital staff to go and fill in some forms. Luckily Viv's parents turned up and helped out with her details. All they could then do was sit in the waiting room for the doctor to come and say what had happened.
Lisa then just sat there with Viv's parents. A few tears started falling down her cheeks and Viv's mum wiped them away and brought her in for a hug. It was about an hour and a half before they heard anything. Lisa had fallen asleep on Viv's brother, Lars, shoulder. The doctor came out and said that Viv had a serious concussion and had broken most of the bones in her foot and lower leg. They were allowed to go and see her but she was asleep and probably wouldn't wake up until the next morning. Lisa went in with Viv's parents and Lars. They huddled round Viv but Lisa stayed back. She didn't know how she felt seeing Viv like this and she also didn't want to breakdown in front of Viv's family. They spent a bit of time with Viv before allowing Lisa to spend some time on her own with Viv.
Lisa sat down next to Viv and held her hands. She hated seeing all the wires going into Viv. Lisa just sat there and cried. After a while she climbed into Viv's bed and lay there with her. She held Viv tightly and started saying all the things that she loves about her. Lisa didn't know if Viv could hear anything but that didn't stop her.
The next morning, Lisa woke up to Viv moving about a little. Lisa noticed the doctors and nurses in the room and quickly got out of the bed and apologised. They responded saying that it was fine and could do all the checks that they needed. Viv then started to wake up and she looked over to Lisa and smiled a little. She couldn't really remember what had happened but remembered all the things that Lisa had said during the night. Viv's parents and brother then came in to see how she was doing. She allowed Viv to have some time with her family and she needed to get some food and have a shower. As she was leaving the hospital room, she saw her own parents sitting in the waiting room. They had managed to get an early flight over to help support Lisa. They had seen Viv as another daughter and they saw how happy she made Lisa. She went over and gave them a big hug. They took her back to the hotel and she had a shower and some food. Lisa realised how hungry she was considering she hadn't eaten in 24 hours.
Lisa then went back to the hospital in the early evening and spent time with Viv. She was making coherent sentences and her memory was coming back but she still couldn't remember anything about the foul or the journey to the hospital. Viv was just happy to see Lisa. Lisa spent the night with Viv and much of the next few days in the hospital with Viv. She was then discharged by the doctor after a week in hospital. They went back to Viv's parents for a week and then Viv was allowed to fly. Lisa was doing everything for Viv as she wanted here to relax. Viv argued that she could do something but Lisa wasn't having any of it.
Over the next few months, Viv got better and was able to start playing again but Lisa was always making sure she was ok and always kept her close.
