The next morning, I woke up to someone shaking me. Opening one eye, I saw Alice standing over me.
"Can I help you?" I asked, looking at the clock. "It's five in the morning!"
Alice rolled her eyes. "I know, I wish I was still sleeping. Alfie wants us all on the pitch in fifteen minutes and he told me to come and wake your ass up."
I had only gotten about an hour and a half of sleep and I was exhausted. I got out of bed and got ready for practice, while cursing Alfie under my breath. I grabbed my broom and walked downstairs to see Charlie and Bill waiting for me.
Charlie looked at me. "Bloody hell, you look horrible!"
"Thanks," I said tartly. "I appreciate that."
"What time did you stay up until?"
I rubbed my eyes. "I don't know maybe three in the morning?"
"Doing homework?"
Bill caught my eye and we looked away awkwardly.
"Um, yea, homework." I mumbled.
When we arrived on the pitch, I saw Lewis and Connie looking super sleepy while Alfie strode over looking wide awake.
"Alright! First match is in a month and it's against Slytherin. We want to be our best and we want to win." he reached over and smacked Bill's head. Bill was dozing off, his head lolling towards my shoulder. "Wake up, William."
After he dramatic speech, we all got onto our brooms and shot off into the air. Feeling the cold wind biting my cheeks helped me wake up.
Lewis and I worked pretty well together. The Bludger was shooting to Connie and I zoomed forward and smacked it to Lewis, who smacked it back to me while we flew through our teammates.
After practice and Breakfast, we had Transfiguration. I went to sit at my usual seat in the back, but a hand grabbed me by the back of my collar and dragged me towards the front of the room.
"You're sitting with us from now on Starling," said Bill as he forced me to sit between him and Lucas.
I smiled shyly at Lucas Watcher and Finley Moore. They greeted me warmly. When McGonagall strode into the room, she paused, looking surprised to see me sitting at the front with the three boys. I swore she smiled slightly at me before continuing her class.
Later that night, I had my detention with Filch. After detention, which ended at at midnight, I walked like a zombie back up to the common room. I went in to see Bill sitting and reading a book. He looked up and patted the seat next to him.
I sat down. "Hi Bill,"
"Hey, how was detention?"
"Oh it was wonderful," I said sarcastically. "I got to clean trophies! How fun."
Bill sniggered. "Sounds fun, I wish I could've been there."
I rolled my eyes. "Yea, totally."
We were silent for a few moments when I said. "Oh and um, thanks for yesterday, I appreciate it."
Bill smiled. "Anytime. I'm glad to see that your wound is better." He reached over and placed his fingers on my lip, scooting closer to me, before he realized what he was doing and quickly snapped his hand back. "Oh I-, Sorry, I didn't-"
I leaned forwards and pecked him on the cheek. "Goodnight Bill,"
His ears turned red. "Goodnight."
Oh my god I couldn't believe I kissed him on the cheek. Stupid stupid stupid.
Bill and I never spoke again about that night when I kissed his cheek, we just acted normal as if nothing ever happened.
The next month flew by and it was suddenly October 25, the Quidditch match against Slytherin.
Everyone was sitting quietly during breakfast. We were all too nervous to speak. The Slytherin's kept jeering at us, and Alfie told us to ignore them. Before we went onto the pitch, Lucas and Finley stopped Bill and I.
"Good luck man." the two boys each fist bumped Bill.
Finley turned to me and hugged me. "Good luck Fawn."
I was surprised with him hugging me, but I wrapped my arms around him. "Thanks Finley.
Lucas hugged me too, before Alfie came over and dragged us apart. "Let's go!"
Soon, we were in the changing room. I was clutching my broom and my Beater bat. Lewis and Connie were both pacing around the room. Alfie was pinching the bridge of his nose. Alice was sitting with her eyes closed, as if she was praying. Bill was sitting with his eyes staring ahead while Charlie had turned a light shade of green.
I looked over at Bill and we made eye contact, giving each other small smiles before looking away.
Then, the match started. I wasn't even listening to the commentator. I focused on the two Bludgers that were zooming about, trying to knock people off their brooms.
I was shooting towards Alfie as a Bludger shot towards him and I had just smashed it away when I felt something crash against my knee, pain making my eyes blur. I saw a Bludger whizzing past me and I realized that it must have been what hit me. My knee was most definitely broken. I still managed to keep flying, although my right leg was dangling around. I hit a Bludger towards the Slytherin Keeper when I suddenly heard......
"AND WEASLEY HAS CAUGHT THE SNITCH. GRYFFINDOR HAS WON THE MATCH AGAINST SLYTHERIN."
I looked up to see Charlie holding the Golden Snitch and grinning. I tilted my broom towards the ground and landed heavily. With my broken knee, I couldn't stand, so I compromised by lying down on my side, panting in pain and exhaustion while holding my broken knee.
Everyone was hugging Charlie and Lewis lifted him into his shoulders.
"Wait where's Fawn?" asked Charlie, looking around.
Bill turned around and saw me on the ground. He rushed over. "What happened, are you alright?"
"Broken leg," I said, my face turning pale.
Bill gingerly picked me up. "I'm going to take you to the hospital wing, alright?"
With him holding me securely in his arms, he started walking to the hospital wing. Looking up at his face, I had the sudden desire to kiss him, and that really scared me.
When we arrived at the Hospital Wing, Madam Pomfrey came rushing forward.
"What happened?"
"Broken leg," I replied weakly. The pain shooting up my leg was making me feel dizzy.
Pomfrey nodded. "Alright, Mr. Weasley, set her on that bed over there. I'll be right back Miss. Starling."
Bill walked over to a bed and set me down. I groaned as my leg hit the bed and he grimaced. "Sorry,"
Pomfrey came running back with her wand raised. She ran her wand up and down my leg while muttering "Nasty game, don't understand it, always getting hurt in Quidditch."
My leg felt a lot better but still hurt slightly.
"It's going to hurt for a couple of days Starling, you're spending the night and you can leave tomorrow morning." said Pomfrey.
I thanked her as she handed me some pajamas. I closed the curtains and I quickly put them on, then drew back the curtains again to find Bill still standing there.
"You're always managing to get yourself hurt, huh Fawn," he said, sitting down on a chair.
"Yep, that's me,"
The rest of the team burst into the room.
"I can't believe he won!" cried Charlie as he flung himself on me.
The team had brought food and drinks and were just settling down when Madam Pomfrey came in an shooed everyone out. "GET OUT YOU CAN SEE HER TOMMOROW."
