Draco descended the stairs with a quick stride, his gaze fixed on Hermione who was engrossed in the book. As he pushed the door open, she snapped her head up, her expression a mixture of surprise and irritation.
"What are you doing here?" Hermione's voice held a sharp edge.
"I missed you," Draco quipped, trying to lighten the mood.
"You're so funny, Malfoy," Hermione retorted, her tone still laced with anger.
"Move," Draco ordered, his patience wearing thin.
"What do you want?" Hermione asked, her frustration evident.
"Just move," Draco repeated, his tone more commanding.
"Whatever, it's your house, pureblood," Hermione muttered as she begrudgingly made space for him.
"Right," Draco replied, taking a seat beside her.
"Why did you come, Malfoy? Can I know?" Hermione inquired, her curiosity piqued.
"To see you," Draco admitted.
"To see me?" Hermione's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Yes, is it wrong?" Draco asked, trying to gauge her reaction.
"No, no," Hermione replied, her demeanor softening slightly.
"For the book? I came to see if you finished it," Draco said, changing the subject.
"Oh, yes, the book," Hermione's smile faded quickly.
"Why? What did you think?" Draco pressed, studying her closely.
"Nothing, nothing," Hermione lied, her discomfort evident.
"So, what is the story of that book?" Draco asked, genuinely curious.
"Malfoy, are you trying to start a conversation?" Hermione questioned, her tone tinged with suspicion.
"Granger, I'm trying to be nice. What is your problem?" Draco's frustration bubbled to the surface.
"Nothing, nothing," Hermione repeated, avoiding his gaze as she returned to her book. "It's a complicated love story," she finally explained. "About two different people who love each other but suffer from problems."
"Hmm, I can see you know a lot about love. Have you ever fallen in love with someone?" Draco asked, genuinely intrigued.
Hermione hesitated for a moment, her thoughts drifting to memories she'd rather forget. "I did. I love someone," she admitted quietly, almost to herself.
"You do? You still love him. Who is he?" Draco's tone softened, sensing Hermione's vulnerability.
"I don't think it's any of your business," Hermione replied, her voice tinged with sadness.
"He doesn't love you, does he?" Draco teased, attempting to lighten the mood.
"Not your business," Hermione shot back, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
"Is it Weasley?" Draco couldn't resist poking fun.
"Shut up, Malfoy," Hermione snapped, her voice trembling.
"I'm sure it's him," Draco laughed, though his amusement was tinged with sympathy.
"Malfoy, please leave," Hermione pleaded, her composure crumbling.
"What's wrong with you, Granger?" Draco asked, his tone shifting to concern.
"Malfoy, please, just go," Hermione cried, her emotions overwhelming her.
As Draco left the room, Hermione sank into her chair, tears streaming down her face. Draco's words had reopened wounds she thought had healed, reminding her painfully of her past love and the heartache she still carried.
