In The Mood by Glenn Miller filled the room along with the laughter of drunk soldiers and lovesick women. I sat at the bar, Bucky by my side, watching Connie swing with a stranger. I turned to Bucky, "James." He smirked at the mention of his name, "Can we get some air?" I asked. He stood from the bar stool and presented his arm, "Of course sweetheart." I hooked my arm with James' and we left behind the now muffled sounds of trumpets.

The chilly air hit us both as we sat on a bench a few minutes away from the event. "So, Sergeant Barnes huh?" I questioned. "Yeah", Bucky sighed. I picked up on the slump of his body as he agreed. "You don't seem so happy about that, most guys I know would think that's swell." I pointed out. James sighed once again and began to speak, "It's just, I can't leave Stevie. He's only got me, what if-", he paused, "what if I don't come back?". My hand squeezed his knee as I said, "You can rest on your laurels James, Steve will be safe with me. And I'll keep a personal eye on you." Bucky smirked at me, "Oh really? How do you plan on that Ms. Somerfield?"

"That's Agent Somerfield to you Sergeant." James quirked an eyebrow. "I work for the SSR division, I'll be stationed in Camp Lehigh to train soldiers for a top secret project," I explained, "although, I was going to be shipped with the 107th Infantry." At that Bucky pouted, "You mean I coulda seen ya wearin' my hat around the base, showin' all the fellas you already got a man." I laughed softly, something I rarely do. "I wasn't aware I had a man Sarge." I playfully retorted. "Oh Doll, I got you in my sights now, and these hungry eyes ain't letting you go." As he spoke Bucky's arm wove it's way around me tightly, pulling me into his chest. "I'll write every day, asking you about Stevie, and asking about your work, your friends. I wanna know you doll." My heart fluttered as I promised Bucky I'd write. "If you're shipping out tomorrow morning, I guess I should give you a going away present." I pulled James up from the bench, kissed his cheek, and wrapped my arms around his shoulders as his went to my waist.

He pulled me in close as we danced to the distant hums of (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons by The King Cole Trio.
