I sit in the front passenger seat of the car as Steve and Peggy sit in the back. We drive past a group of children playing what looks like baseball in the street, I feel a tug in my heart as I think about how I could've had a normal childhood. How different my life would be had my family still been alive, but then I never would've got to this point and I wouldn't change this for the world. "I know this neighbourhood. I got beat up in that alley." Steve says as we drive through Brooklyn, I laugh as he continues to list off places. "And in that parking lot." He says, "And behind that diner."

"Did you have something against running way?" Peggy asks, her signature British lilt like a siren song to me, bringing me peace. "You start running they'll never let you stop. You stand up, push back. Can't say no forever, right?" Steve replies, I freeze. I feel as though he's talking directly to me, judging me for escaping the way I did. "In some cases I think you'll find it's safer to run and hide." I say, Steve looks at the back of my head and says, "I never said nothing about hidin'". I say nothing and look out the window as Steve and Peggy continue their conversation. "I know a little of what that's like. To have every door shut in your face." Peggy says, to which I nod in agreement. "I guess I just don't why you'd wanna join the army if you're a beautiful dame. Or a beautiful... a woman. An agent, not a dame! You are beautiful, but..." Steve stutters out, I cringe slightly and mutter, "I'd stop talking if I was you Steve." Peggy simply smiles at Steve, clearly enamoured with the small boy even more. "You have no idea how to talk to a woman, do you?" She says. I tune out at that point, not wanting to hear them flirt, or hear Steve attempt to.

We pull up to the antique store and all step out of the car. Steve surveys his surroundings before Peggy says "This way." and he follows. He either fails to notice the stares of the men in the street or he ignores them but they irk me. "Can I help you boys?" I say sweetly as Steve and Peggy walk into the store. "Of course not, we was just wondering what a skinny lad like that 's doin' in the army." One of the brutes says smugly. I saunter over to him, and give him a seductive smile. He raises an eyebrow at his friends and turns to me. I look him straight in the eye and reach out to his right arm. I pull it quickly behind him and force his body to double over. "He's in the army because he's more of a man than you'll ever be, ublyodok." I let him go after whispering a not so subtle threat in his ear and waltz into the store. "Sorry about that Peg, some men who are clearly behind the times." I say with a smug grin. An old woman walks out to the storefront and states, "Wonderful weather this morning, isn't it?" Peggy smiles, "Yes but I always carry an umbrella." The woman presses a small button under her desk, next to the gun that is not as hidden as it should be, although I am trained to see these things.

Peggy and I lead Steve through the bland hallway to a hidden lab bustling with scientists. They hear our footsteps and immediately stop what they are doing to look up at Steve. I place my hand on his shoulder and lead him down the steps, feeling the fear radiating off of him like beams of light. "Good morning." Erskine says, shaking Steve's hand. As he does so somebody takes a photograph, I use the light of the flash to conceal myself in the photograph, I can't risk being found now. "Please not now," Erskine mumbles waving the photographer away, "Are you ready?" He asks. Steve turns his head away from the pod and nods. "Good, take off your shirt, your tie, and your hat." Steve hesitantly looks around but removes the items regardless, I hold my hand out to take them from him. I raise my brow silently asking if he's still okay, he gives me a nervous thumbs up and I smile. Whilst Erskine prepares the scientists and Steve I hear the voice of Colonel Phillips in the observation chamber. He seems to be introducing the guests but one voice strikes me more than the others, 'Fred Clemson, State Department'. The accent is obviously fake, a slight German hint but I brush it off as paranoia. Perhaps he's just protecting himself, nobody wants to be known as German nowadays, Erskine still gets judged for it and the man's a genius.

Whilst Steve gets comfortable in the pod, I spot an old friend. "V.P" He practically shouts, engulfing me in a suffocating hug. "Hey Howie, how've you been?" He puts me down when I smack him in the head. He rubs the spot as he replies, "Busy as always, you kept well? How about that man I saw you with? And how do you feel about having someone else like you?!" I'm taken aback by the amount of questions. "First off, clearly I'm well. Secondly, his name is Sergeant James Barnes, and he's just so amazing. I'm a tad love-struck," Howard teasingly elbows me, "And thirdly, shush will you?! It's not supposed to be known that I'm enhanced for want of a better word. Abraham already told me off for telling Peg." I finish. Howard simply holds his hands up and makes his way over to his station.

I rejoin Peggy as Erskine asks, "Mr Stark, how are your levels?" Howard turns and says, "Levels at 100%." Erskine nods his approval, "We may dim half the lights in Brooklyn, but we are ready as we'll ever be." Howard adds. I watch as Steve watches the nurses and scientists scurry around him, "Agents? Don't you think you would be more comfortable in the booth?" Erskine asks. I scowl at him as Peggy and I make our way to the booth. She grips my hand the entire time, tightening her hold when she yells to shut it down, and almost breaking my fingers when everything overloads and the reactor shuts itself down. The pod opens to reveal a completely different Steve. Covered in sweat, and somehow his trousers still fit even though he's much thicker and a foot taller. His biceps bulge and his pecs are immense. I stand there in awe, muttering to Howard how it isn't fair that I didn't look more attractive afterwards. He laughs, "You're plenty attractive baby." I punch him in the arm and help him shut down the machinery, leaving the new super soldier to Peggy.
