Chapter 41
Time
Despite the warning Chasen told Natalie, she tried calling Nate to somehow help her escape the country. At the first ring, Natalie was rushing to tell the person over the phone her story. She was begging for Nate to at least try help her. It almost shocked her to hear an emotional tone, and it sounded familiar to her. When the person spoke again, Chasen’s disappointed tone rang. "It's no use trying Natalie, every time you dial numbers that isn't in our country code, you end up calling my phone."
Natalie’s silent horror was eerie enough for her to hear something else in the background; there were begging voices that was suddenly cut off after a snapping sound. Her heart beat unevenly when she heard that terrible sound. It was like someone got himself/herself a broken neck. She hanged the phone when she couldn’t stopped the sobbing that escaped her lips. The sound she heard over the phone, tipped her off that Chasen was in his sadistic side again. The shiver that ran along her spine made her curl into a ball.
She didn't know how long she was in that curling position as she lays on the bed. It was dark now. The slightly curtained glass window was showing a very dark surroundings. Mrs. Fritzcole called her for lunch earlier but she was too stress up to face food. All she could think of was Chasen’s face this morning. The face of a true hunter who would not mind hurting people. But he wasn't hurting her at the moment the way he brought her hell before. Yet she wasn't comfortable whenever he was so close. So close that she can feel his beefy chest against her back. His lips brushing her neck. She wasn't at all comforted about it in contrary it made her so uneasy she wanted to push him away. If she wasn't so terrified of him she would have wounded his feelings, but seeing him so lethal this morning gave her no choice but to let him do whatever he wanted.
The lights in the room suddenly flickered open and Chasen was in the room wearing a serene smile. He sat on the bed and put his arms underneath her body then scooped her up and put him on his lap, cradled her like a child.
"Mom told me you didn't go down to eat; she was worried of you all afternoon. " He lifted her chin so he could see properly her red puffy eyes. "You've been crying." He was upset now. "From now on I don't want you crying." His lips smiled, "I wanted you to be happy all the time."
Natalie stopped breathing when he leaned forward and touched his lips to hers. His lips were careful but forceful to make her respond. There is no will in her to be comfortable with this. Instead her human instinct wanted her to fight back. But how? When Chasen will simply overpowered ner. He already did that once. Not to mention her fear of hurting his ego. One snapped and she will probably begging on her knees not to torture her again.
Eventually, he break free, looking dissatisfied. "It's only a matter of time and you'll start responding the way you did before." He seemed smug when he uttered those words. He stood with her still in his arms. "Now let's go have some dinner. You look thinner." He clicked his tongue in a disapproving way.
He started walking when Natalie stuttered, "I can walk," in a small fearful voice.
"I know," he muttered softly. "I just though it would be nice carrying you." He continued walking while Natalie stays in his arms, being carried. The thudding of her heart was a little high above the normal beat and it strongly reminded Chasen of their time in the jungle. That disturbing sound, he wanted that to go away. He doesn't really like being reminded of his sadistic side when he is with his fiancee; because one show of that side, and Natalie will go crazy, begging him not to hurt her. Hurt her? Again?
Chasen needed to breathe hard to deplete the anger building inside him for even thinking it. No, he can't hurt her. She's too precious in his life. Everything in his life seemed to revolve around her. One change and the other one will be effected.
