The knowing of the prior night was on your mind from the moment you'd woken up - like staining red wine on a carpet, going to bed and hoping it had magically cleared itself by the time you'd gotten up.

Maybe you were overthinking it, as you got dressed that morning into your black and red detailed shirt, dark jeans and knee high riding boots, your mind running over every possible detail of your silly dance with Arthur, the closeness of his hold and warmth of his body under your fingertips.

It was no wonder you were staring out blankly across the lake's water that morning, clutching the coffee cup tightly. You'd been mentally trying to plan what to do, how to act and whether anything should be different or awkward between yourself and Arthur? Again - more spiralling ruminations that were tumbling far out of reasonable control.

"Good mornin' (name)," Lenny announced himself, as he planted himself firmly next to you - heels digging into the dirt and a crass smile on his face that instantly drew you out of your stare.

"What?" You started to smile nervously, his smirk never relenting despite the concern of your (eyes).

"I bet you were tired last night from all of ya dancin'." Lenny chuckled with a childish tone of voice, and it instantly made you want to curl up inside. So, it appeared even when everyone was drunk, they still saw pretty much everything that went on.

"I was tired in general." You started, getting slightly defensive already without even realising it. "Haven't you got anythin' juicier to gossip about?" You scoffed, matching his smile, "I'm pretty sure Karen and Sean were doing something much more scandalous than dancing."

Lenny quipped a smart smile, gesturing his coffee cup at you momentarily with that teasing look that didn't seem to be fading.

"They're old news, (name)." Lenny remarked as he continued to wind you up, "besides - I wanna talk about you n' Arthur. You two are awful cosy."

Laughing in return to his suggestive tones, you decided playing it cool was better than anything else. If you started getting heated perhaps it would make him more interested in trying to embarrass you.

"And you're goddamn nosy!" You scoffed with a grin, nudging Lenny in the arm momentarily, "Arthur's my friend, ok?"

"Okay, and I'm Dutch's pet poodle." Lenny chided in a sarcastic and spirited tone of voice, the pair of you chuckling away with each other - and a part of you secretly hoped maybe Lenny had bought your presentation of a girl romantically uninterested ... but a more realistic part of you brain was screaming that you weren't convincing anyone. Hell - you could barely convince yourself!
