Ch. 9

Days passed by as Skylar laid in the hospital still unconscious. It had taken three hours for his surgery, but he had yet to waken up. Night and day both his mother and father would stay by his side. Nik or Tristan would bring Mylo by as well, but Hunter would not step foot once in the hospital after hearing about what happened. If he wasn't at work, he was at home alone in his office or bedroom. Nik had told Skylar's mother about how people in the house could hear things being thrown around. He told her that the office and room both are a mess and refuses to have anyone clean it up.

As Ella sat next to Skylar holding his hand, Nik walked in with Mylo who held flowers. Ella smiled as he placed the flowers on the table next to his bed. Ella stood allowing him to sit down as she walked over next to Nik.

''How is he today'' Nik asked softly.

Ella sighed wrapping her arms around herself ''The same as yesterday and the day before'' she turned and looked at him ''And Hunter?''

Nik lowered his head, balling his hands into fists ''This morning he was sitting in his darkened room'' he said looking over at Skylar ''He was holding onto some of Skylar's clothes. He blames himself for not being there.''

''He can't keep blaming himself'' she said ''How was he know that Ryan would do what he did? What if Sky wakes up? He will want to see him.''

Just as she had said that, Mylo started to cry. When they looked over, Skylar was starting to move and open his eyes. Ella started to cry as well as she ran over to the other side of the bed and grabbed ahold of his hand. Nik rushed from the room to get nurses and a doctor. When they came in, Nik pulled Mylo away. It took only a few moments for them to look him over and check the wound. Once they were done and gone, both Mylo and Skylar's mother were back at his bedside.

Skylar struggled a bit to sit up ''how long was I out'' he asked.

''Almost a week'' his mother said as she helped him sit up.

He nodded and looked over to his left ''Mylo'' he said softly as he reached out and placed a hand on his head.

Mylo cried as he grabbed ahold of his hand ''Daddy'' he cried.

''Were you scared'' Skylar asked only to watch him nod ''I'm sorry.''

''I...I...I know'' Mylo stuttered between cries ''You were only doing what you can to protect us.''

Skylar smiled as he looked around the room ''Is he out right now'' he asked looking towards Nik ''When is he coming back?''

Nik stayed quiet as he looked away ''Sky'' his mother said drawing Skylar's attention ''Hunter....Hunter is....''

''He is at work right now'' Nik said cutting her off ''He has been very busy at work.''

Skylar nodded. He gently reached down and picked Mylo up, setting him on the bed next to him. Skylar's mother got up and walked over to Nik ''What the hell are you doing'' she asked in a whisper.

''We can't tell him'' Nik said, turning away from Skylar's view ''At least not right now. He just woke up. How can we tell him that he has not once come to see him.''

''Mom'' Skylar said ''Come take Mylo to get something to eat please.''

Ella turned and smiled ''Sure dear.''

She walked over and picked Mylo up carrying him out of the room. Skylar watched them till the door was shut ''You don't have to hide it'' Skylar said looking at Nik ''So, how bad does he blame himself?''

Nik looked at him confused ''What are you talking about? Hunter is at work. If he isn't to tired, he will be by after.''

Skylar sighed as he leaned back ''My mother was trying to tell me'' he said ''But you stopped her. So either he has come by once or...'' He stopped as tears started to stream down his face ''Or he has not come by at all'' he looked at Nik ''So, which is it? Tell me.''
