"Mrs. Takami," you didn't notice the doctor standing right in front of you until you heard him say your name for the 8th time.
"Oh, sorry doctor. How's Keigo doing?" you asked. It had nearly been 15 hours since Keigo had wheeled through those dreaded doors. It was now 5 in the morning and you have not slept a wink. You were just on the edge of your nerves, scared that someone would come up to you, saying they had bad news.
"He's stable now. Based on the list of symptoms you gave us, we deduced that he came in direct contact with someone who had Leptospirosis. We caught it just in time, so his kidneys and liver are fine, but his body has been under a lot of stress, thus causing minor breathing trouble, so that's why we had to give him a respirator. But he is fine and should be able to go home in two weeks," the doctor told you. You breathed a sigh of relief. Keigo is going to be okay. That was the only thing that was going through your mind.
"Ca-can I see him?" you asked.
"Of course. He's sleeping in room 203," the doctor smiled as he pointed you down the hallway.
"Thank you," you thanked the doctor. It was as if you had no control over your body, that you were watching your body carry you to Keigo's room. When you reached the door, you braced yourself for what lay ahead and walked through the door. There you saw him. Keigo was sleeping with a breathing mask over his face, in a hospital gown, with an IV tube stuck in his left hand, just above the ring that you put on his hand on your wedding day. Tears filled your eyes as you went to sit next to Keigo. You grabbed his hand and held it to your face. Seeing Keigo like that, was just heartbreaking. His lips didn't have their usual smile on them, and because his eyes were closed, they did not hold the same liveliness that would always be there. Then there was that horrible wheezing that came out every time he let out a breath. 'He's okay. He's going to be okay,' you told yourself over and over again.
"Hey Kei," you sniffled and let out a breath. "I know you can't hear me, since you're asleep, but I just need to talk to you." you smiled at his sleeping form. "The doctor says you're going to be okay, and that you don't have any further problems, so you'll be able to go home in a couple of weeks, so that's good." You tenderly brushed a lock of hair behind his ear. "Please don't scare me like that Keigo. You have no idea how terrified that you were going to die and that I was going to have to live alone because I missed something. I feel like it's my fault that you're like this because I didn't take you to the doctor soon enough," you sniffled again, tears being renewed.
"Kei, this is worse than watching you fight any villain. When you fight those bad guys, you can actually see them, and I know you're strong enough to beat them; but seeing you so sick, and lying in the hospital, Keigo, I can't do that. It hurts, it really hurts so much to see you like this. I can't imagine living a single day without you, cause that would be pure torture. I am sorry Keigo, I am so sorry," you cried into the bed, still holding on to your husband's hand. You cried and cried until you fell asleep like that.
A few hours later, you woke up to feeling something rough stroking your h/c hair.
"I'm sorry y/n," you faintly heard a raspy voice say. Your head bolted from the bed, fully wide awake, and you saw those golden eyes that you love so much stare into your e/c ones. "Hey kid," Keigo smiled at you.
"Keigo!" you lunged and hugged your husband.
"Oof, easy darlin'," Keigo chuckled.
"Sorry, sorry," you sniffled, wiping away at the tears of joy that escaped your eyes. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I got hit by one of Endeavor's punches, but okay," he put his hand on your cheek. You leaned into his touch, happy that he was awake. "How about you? You look so tired."
"Yeah, well I've just been through the biggest scare of my life so forgive me if I don't look like a goddess right now," you smiled.
"Hey, you always look like a goddess," Keigo pressed his forehead against yours. "I'm sorry that I had to make you go through all this crap," Keigo's voice sounded so serious.
"No, I'm sorry that you ended up like this in the first place. I should have taken you to see the doctor after you weren't getting better. I'm sorry Keigo," you looked down.
"Y/n m/n (middle name) Takami, look at me," Keigo demanded. You obeyed and looked him in the eye. "Don't you dare blame yourself for this. None of this is your fault and you had absolutely no control over my getting sick. I'm okay, and I'm not going anywhere. You don't have to worry about living alone. I'm always going to stay by your side baby bird," Keigo comforted you.
"Wait, you heard me? You heard what I said when I came in?" you asked.
"Yeah, I did, and I'm sorry that I scared you so bad," Keigo brushed a tear from your eye with his thumb. "Come here," he motioned for you to join him on the bed.
"I don't think that's okay Kei," you glanced nervously at the door to see if the doctor would come through the door.
"I don't care. You're my wife, I'm sick, and we both need cuddles," Keigo smirked cheekily at you. You hesitantly joined your husband up on the hospital bed and nuzzled into his neck as he wrapped his arms around you. You laid your arms around his waist, and he covered the both of you with one of his big, ruby red wings.
"We're okay baby bird. Everything's going to be fine," Keigo breathed in your ear.
"Promise?" you asked. Keigo took the mask off of his mouth and kissed you on the forehead.
"Promise." The two of you just stayed like that and fell asleep in each other's arms. The nurses walked in about half an hour later and saw the adorable sight of the two of you cuddling together. They quietly did their work, then left the two of you alone.
The next couple of weeks were a little rocky. Keigo was so restless and insisted that he was fine, but the doctors said no and that he had to wait. During that time, Midnight, Miriko, Ryukyu, Present Mic, Eraserhead, All Might, Endeavor, Tokoyami and Tsu (together), and many of your friends visited you and Keigo at the hospital. There was once when he begged and begged you to sneak in a bucket of chicken wings, but you said no. Your man moaned and pouted like a puppy, which made you laugh. You promised that when he got home he can eat as many chicken wings that he wanted (within reason and the non-spicey ones), to which Keigo begrudgingly agreed. You were happy that Keigo was back to his mischievous self, and that he was getting better. Keigo noticed, and was happy that you were happy.
"I love you little bird," Keigo smiled.
"I love you too fuzzball."
