Maya's POV

It was 5 o'clock when I woke up the next morning, sweat dripping from my face as a result of another nightmare.

You would think that after suffering from them for most of your life that they become less frightening, or that you would get used to waking up terrified at the possibility that what happened in your nightmare could come true, or could happen again. But no. It's the same thing every single time I close my eyes. Always different, but always equally as horrifying.

'M, how about we get ready for school. Yeah, because then we get to go to school. And if we go to school then we can go and talk to Xander. Yeah. Now come on, chop chop let's go.' Cora urged. How she was so active and bouncy so early in the morning was beyond me, but then again, the thought of seeing Xander always cheers her up. Not able to think of anything else to do, I heeded her advice and went to go and look presentable.

Well as presentable as I can get without putting in too much effort.

I slipped on some blue skinny jeans, and a flowy maroon top, Tucking my pendant necklace into my top. I yanked on some knee high boots and- after much persuasion from Cora- put on a bit of lipstick, (that I had every intention of removing as soon as possible).

As I left my room, the time was around 6, meaning that if I left now, I would be able to get to Jess' diner and have breakfast and get to school in time for form time at around half 7. So, with that in mind, I set off for the diner.

~~~☯~~~
I entered Jess' diner to find it fairly full for so early in the morning.
"Morning Little Ace, sit wherever you want," J said upon spotting me, his words caused me to smirk,
"Anywhere that isn't occupied by another person- except Mark- you can gladly sit in his seat if it means he leaves." Jess said, quickly catching his mistake. I sent him a pouty look, before going and sitting at my usual spot at the bar.
"So, what'll it be?" He asked as he began to pour a cup of coffee for himself- which I proceed to take for myself,
"Could I get some pancakes with a doughnut and a muffin? No, wait make that 2 muffins." I asked. He scoffed before saying,
"You,  short stack, won't ever change, will you?" He informed, causing me to smirk in reply before he left to go and prepare food.
Shortly after, he returned with my food in one hand, and a salad in the other. He handed to salad to another worker, signalling to a table, before walking over to be and presenting my food with some jazz hands.
