Working for Love

Everything went wrong when Alessandria turned twenty-six. Everything. Now, at twenty-seven, she is a college drop-out who works two jobs to provide for herself and her widowed mother. When her mom contracts endocarditis, a heart disease, Alessandria knows they don't have the money to pay all the extra costs, so when her sister suggests she gets a job at Ashdown Properties, a landlord company that recently started a program for people who want to get started in the business world, Alessandria agrees and is hired as the only human in the vampire-run company. She soon notices that the kind and charming owner of the property has taken additional interest in her, and isn't quite sure what to think since she hasn't dated in years.

Damazein "Damon" Ashdown is a vampire who hasn't been around humans much for the last few centuries. Every time he makes friends with one of them, they die, as their species is inevitably apt to do. He is tired of the heartache that comes with the news of a departed friend, so he surrounds himself with vampires and elves, people who won't die within forty years of him knowing them. But when Alessandria comes to him, he can't help being attracted to her. She is looking for a job to take care of her mother when none of her other siblings are able to help, an admirable, and rare, trait in the normally selfish humans who pursuit business.
