Chapter 22: Trust and Lies
The scent of lavender and chamomile hung heavy in the air, a comforting reminder of home. Taehyung strolled through the omega lands, marveling at the changes that had swept through them in such a short time. The once-isolated haven was now a bustling hub of activity, a testament to the newfound unity between alphas and omegas. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride, knowing that he had played a part in this transformation.
"Jungkook, he's great and kind, isn't he?"
A voice startled him. He turned to see Jihwa, Jimin's sister, standing beside him, her eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint.
"You know Jungkook?" Taehyung asked, his brow furrowed with curiosity.
"Yes, since Jimin Oppa is my brother, I got easily close with Jungkook," Jihwa said, her voice laced with a hint of nostalgia. "Back then, people believed that we would be a perfect couple. After all, we both came from high rank and status." She giggled, her laughter echoing through the air.
Taehyung felt a pang in his heart, a feeling he couldn't quite place. He had never thought of Jungkook and Jihwa as a couple, but the image of them together, their laughter mingling, filled him with a strange sense of unease.
"I mean, they have always mistaken us as a couple because Jungkook and I are that close," Jihwa continued, her voice soft. "As if he would rather not let me go. He's only sweet towards me and always careful." She smiled, her eyes sparkling with a hint of longing.
"I see," Taehyung said, his voice hesitant. "But as far as I know, you left because of Jungkook. Why?"
Jihwa's smile faltered. "Well, uh, it's because I'm not ready to commit yet. He wanted me to be his Luna, but I don't think I am prepared enough to be a Luna. That's why I came back here to tell him I am ready now."
"But it's been so long since you left," Taehyung said, his voice filled with doubt. "Don't you think he already forgot you? I mean, he might find someone else besides you."
"That wouldn't happen," Jihwa said, her voice filled with confidence. "I'm sure I'm the only one in his heart. He won't change me that easily for someone else because he loves me."
"Are you sure about that She giggled, her laughter ringing through the air.
"Yeah, good for you," Taehyung said, his voice flat. He wasn't interested in her lies. He knew she was twisting the truth, that she was painting a picture of Jungkook that didn't match the alpha he knew. There was no way Jungkook would be so smitten with her, so devoted to her. It sounded so fake, so contrived.
Suddenly, Taehyung caught a whiff of Jungkook's scent, a familiar blend of pine and leather. A smile spread across his face, and he turned towards the source of the scent, his heart pounding with anticipation.
"Jungkook," he called out, his voice filled with a mixture of joy and relief.
Jungkook turned, his eyes widening in surprise. "Missed me already, pup?" he chuckled, his voice a low rumble.
"It just surprised me to see you here," Taehyung said, his voice laced with a hint of amusement. "What are you doing here?"
"I've come to visit you," Jungkook replied, his gaze fixed on Taehyung. "Don't you like it?"
"Of course, I like it," Taehyung said, his smile widening. "I'm happy that you are here." He walked towards Jungkook, his heart beating faster with each step.
"I'm glad to hear that," Jungkook said, his voice filled with warmth. "It seemed like you were in a good mood. Why?" He pulled Taehyung closer, his arm wrapping around his waist.
"Ah, it's nothing," Taehyung said, his cheeks flushing with a rosy hue. "I'm just enjoying the view of how this land changed beautifully. That's it."
"I'm quite disappointed with your answer," Jungkook said, his voice playful. "I thought you were in a good mood because I came here."
"It's also because of that," Taehyung giggled, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Jungkook," a voice called out, interrupting their moment.
Jungkook turned, his gaze meeting Jihwa's. Taehyung turned as well, his brow furrowed with a sense of unease.
"What are you doing here?" Jungkook asked, his voice cool and distant.
"I'm here because I heard Jimin Oppa usually goes here," Jihwa said, her voice laced with a hint of resentment. "It's been a while, isn't it?"
"I don't know," Jungkook said, his voice cold. "I'm actually relieved when you're far from our land."
"Don't be like that," Jihwa said, her voice rising in anger. "As if we didn't have any relationship back then. Don't you remember that people wanted us to be a real couple?"
"I don't remember anything related to you," Jungkook said, his voice hard. "And it was just based on your delusional head."
"Then why did you show affection to me?" Jihwa demanded, her voice filled with rage. "Why do you treat me differently from the others if you don't love me, hah?!"
"As I said, it's all in your imagination," Jungkook said, his voice calm and collected. "You thought there was something going on between us, but in fact, you are exaggerating every simple small gesture I did. I never said you were special to me."
"Do you think you can find better than me?" Jihwa shouted, her voice shaking with anger. "I'm the only one you need! There's no one who will love you as I can. You are mine, Jungkook!"
"I don't want your love," Jungkook said, his voice cold. "It's obsession. You are right, I can't find anyone better than you, but I found the best one."
Jungkook pulled Taehyung closer, his arm tightening around his waist. He turned to Jihwa, his eyes filled with a steely resolve.
"This person is my mate," Jungkook said, his voice firm. "He's the best one I'm referring to."
"You're lying!" Jihwa screamed, her voice filled with a mixture of rage and despair. "He's not your mate. You're just using him!"
"It's up to you whether you want to believe it or not," Jungkook said, his voice laced with indifference. "I don't care about you anyway."
"We should get going now, pup," Jungkook said, his voice soft. "I don't like wasting our time with something so useless. Besides, it's our date today." He looked at Taehyung, his eyes filled with love and affection.
Taehyung smiled, his heart overflowing with happiness. He took Jungkook's hand, his fingers intertwining with his. They turned and walked away, leaving Jihwa standing alone, her face contorted with rage.
"You will regret hurting me like this, Jungkook," Jihwa muttered, her voice filled with a chilling threat. "You should have known whom you belong to. I won't let this pass. I will show you my revenge. I will get rid of anything just to have you mine." She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms. She turned and walked away, her eyes burning with a cold fury. She contacted someone, her voice laced with a sense of urgency. "I have important information. It's about Jungkook and his mate."
