Bloody Socks
Kurai was washing her hands when she saw Sayoko's head peeking out of the morgue's door.
"Hey, Sayoko- chan why so suspicious?" she playfully teased him.
She smiled and said, "Hey Kurai, remember that library you always told me about?"
The young girl was quite surprised, because she wasn't the kind of person who would prefer read books as a hobby.
"Wait a minute... You? Books? Really? Did you hit your head somewhere?"
She laughed, "no I didn't. But I really wanna see that library."
She lowered her head and began packing her stuff, "okay we'll go on Sunday."
She whined, "nooo I want to go tonight!"
Her eyebrows jumped up at the elder's eagerness and she replied, "what's with the hurry? You never cared about it anyway."
"I know, I know, but although I might not have been looking like it, my curious ass has been thinking about going to that library for a whole week! And I'm really excited about it!! Plus, I have to work a full shift on Sunday did you forget?"
She shook her head but skeptically looked at her. "So there's no way you could get a day off at the weekend?"
Sayoko looked at her with a goofy smile, "I already passed the limit."
She rolled her eyes. 'Well, I'm not surprised.'
"Fine, now that you insist..."
She punched the air out of happiness like a child and started pushing her towards the main exit.
That night was Konato's long shift, but when he found out they were going without him he started whining and made them promise to take him with them next time.
They were running late so they pampered him with some snacks and said goodbye to him as Sayoko hurriedly pulled Kurai out.
She hopped on a bus at the last minute while pulling her friend up, and after zoning out for about twenty minutes to ignore Sayoko's babbling, they arrived.
As they walked inside the little library, Sayoko's eyes widened, "whoa Kurai, this place is way better than I thought!!"
She looked at the elder with a smug face.
That library was one of the little cozy places she loved to go to. Mostly because she could get herself lost in hundreds of books. She liked that place especially when she sat down, and focused on a book, she didn't think of anything else.
Her mind would get instantly empty, which was what she had been always after.
It was way better than some dry pills.
But then, all she wanted was a warm cuddle, food, to be scolded for childish things, and in conclusion, she wanted to go home to her chubby grandmother.
The library was small, all right. But Konato was really lost in the atmosphere.
She looked at the time and saw three zeros and a one. It was getting late, like very late.
Kurai was surprised her grandmother hadn't called her to ask where she was.
'Well, she probably hadn't noticed the time.' She shrugged off the thought. It wasn't the first time situations like that happened.
She tugged at Sayoko's sleeve, "hey, I'm getting sleepy. Can we go now?"
The elder glanced at her watch then her eyes widened as he saw the time.
