Lost Lies

Kurai quietly went down the stairs, but when she reached the kitchen she could feel the serotonin flowing in her veins as she saw her kind granny making breakfast.

'She woke up this early in the morning... for me!'

Isn't that sweet?

Kurai started walking towards her and said, "So granny, what brings you here this early in the morning?" She turned over and looked at her grandchild with one of her lovely smiles and responded, "Just making breakfast so that my favorite, lazy grandchild won't skip it."

The young girl rolled her eyes and said, "Grandma, I'm your ONLY grandchild." She laughed, "Well that makes you even more special!"

Kurai pressed her lips together to maintain a poker face but gave up when she saw her oh-so-favorite drink on the table. She was about to grab it as her life depended on it, but she heard her grandmother scolding her as usual.

"Uh- Uh- Uh, that's not for now young lady. You can have it after you finished your breakfast."

The younger looked at her with her eyes wide open. "You literally called me a young lady, but then you tell me to finish my food like a five-year-old child?!" As she dramatically finished saying her sentence, it was her granny's turn to look at the younger one with a poker face.

She pushed the plate filled with eggs, tomatoes, and bread towards the other edge of the table, then made her grandchild sit down and eat it all up. Kurai knew she was acting like a brat, but eating all that food in the morning is really hard, especially for a person like her who's been skipping breakfast almost every day.

As she was eating, she felt her grandmother's worried gaze on her. So she looked up at her while tilting her head in a questioning way.

The elder gave her gaze to the younger one's unfinished plate and said, "You've gotten more petit and skinny these days." Kurai looked down at her food, "Granny, I was always like this."

The elder shook her head, "You know what I mean! You should stop skipping meals. It's not good for your health nor your spirits!" The younger shrugged and simply replied with an okay, but it wasn't enough for her.

"Do you even eat the meals I make for you for your lunch while you're at work?" She asked with a suspicious tone that made Kurai almost choke on her tomatoes.

"I-, uh-, well, I mean of course I eat them!"

'I stuttered... I FREAKING STUTTERED!'

'I am so doomed...'

The old chubby woman looked at the younger with narrowed eyes, giving her the look of 'You know I ain't buying that.'

Kurai cleared her throat and forced herself to continue eating but the woman asked, "Well then if you eat the meals I make for you... What did I make you yesterday?" Kurai's cheeks started to heat up as she knew she was in trouble.

"Well- uh, it's not like I don't remember."

'Nice job you liar... But whatever it was, the cats loved it.'

She frowned and said, "You mean you don't remember the food you ate yesterday?" A slight tone of surprise appeared in her voice.

"Come on granny you know me. Doing multiple tasks all at once." The younger chuckled awkwardly. She looked at her granddaughter, still unconvinced. Kurai gulped down her saliva, praying that her grandmother won't start a lecture.

The elder woman was about to say something again but the younger looked at the clock and jumped out of her seat saying, "Oh no, I'm totally gonna be late! Would you look at the time!"

The young girl saw her grandmother jumping out of her seat too. Which meant her little dramatic act worked quite well.
