April.
The sound of a gunshot woke me up.
As soon as I had come to my room earlier, my body fell on one side of the bed instantly sending me into dreamless sleep.
Groggily opening my eyes, I sat up on the bed. Then, I heard them clearly. Gunshots. They were random and increasing by the minute.
What was happening outside? Bloodbath again? I gulped thinking about last time and my stomach twisted. Christian had instructed me not to come out or make any sound. Well, even if I make any sound they won't be able to hear it over all this gunfire anyway.
I looked at the suitcase under my dressing table and pulled it out. My jaw dropped a little when I found all my things in there. It included my clothes, books and other stuff. When did he get this from Leah?
I sat on the small stool and kept looking in the mirror. My hair was a mess and eyes had bags under them.
I could still hear the gunshots, but they were very few. Once in a while. I combed my hair and pulled it up into a pony.
Then, I heard footsteps. Leading outside of the house. They were followed by the sound of engines starting up and in a minute everything was dead silent. They were gone.
I got up, still wearing his jacket and clothes underneath. When I stepped into the living my heart sunk. One of his men was dressing his wound.
I sprinted forward. "Chris!"
"Hazel!"
I almost hugged him leaving out the left side of his body where the wound was.
"What happened?" I asked, keeping my eyes on the wound.
"Nothing, don't worry. My dad won't come after you anymore." He put his hand on my head caressing my hair.
"What did he do to you? That doesn't look good." I bit my lips. Did he went too far again? For me?
"I fought with him. Declared a war against him." He spoke nonchalantly.
"What!?" I jerked back. "What are you talking about?"
"It's just me going against my family. I never was on their side anyways." He smirked.
"What do you mean w-war? Do you intend to keep on fighting with your own people?" I stuttered. I couldn't let him do this.
"Only if they intend to hurt you." He stared at me. The person who was dressing cleared his throat. Christian broke the eye contact and looked at him. "Thanks Jimmy."
After Jimmy left Christian pulled down his white shirt which hand a dark blood stain over it.
"Christian I don't want you to go against your-" he touched my lips with his finger. Shivers ran down my body.
"There is something more important that I have to tell you." He scooted closer to me. His hand curled up around me and my body was pulled towards him.
"This might shock you. Are you ready to hear it?" He glanced down at me.
I nodded. Guess life wasn't over with its shit just yet.
"My people have found your dad." He stated.
My eyes widened with surprise. My....dad?
***
Christian.
Her eyes grew larger. She kept staring at me for a while, captivating me. I wished I could just stare at her forever. Every time I looked into those eyes, I felt like I was diving into the ocean.
"My dad? The one who left us when I was born?" She glanced away. It was obvious that it shocked her. I rubbed her back, hoping to comfort her.
"Yeah." I got up slowly. My wound had just stopped throbbing. If it wasn't for that one call our fight might have come to an ugly end.
"I'm heading over to where he's kept." I looked down. My shirt had stuck to my body. I needed a shower.
I couldn't have it though. Jimmy just had treated the wound."Can I come?" She immediately asked. I knew she had wanted to come. It was natural for her to feel the urge to see her father for the first time.
"Sorry sweetheart." I grabbed her hand and pulled her up. "You won't like to see him there. They will be questioning him about my mom and things might get ugly. I don't want you to see any of it."
She scowled and I couldn't help but chuckle. She looked so cute.
"I want you to bring him here." She ordered, throwing her hands around my shoulders. "I want to meet him."
I couldn't really promise her that. What if he was the murderer? I shook that thought away. "Okay."
She caught me off guard pressing her lips tightly on my cheek. I turned my head to kiss her back on her lips.
"Are you hungry?" I pulled my phone out.
"Not really. I don't feel like eating." She mumbled, sitting down again.
"Okay." I wondered what had caused her vomit today in the school.
"Do you want some orange juice?" I strolled into the kitchen and opened the fridge.
"Maybe." She called.
"That's better than a no." I muttered to myself getting two glasses from the upper shelf. I poured some juice for both of us.
I handed her one glass and drank up mine in one go. I had to go see Jonathan. My head was flooded with questions. He was the only person who could answer them.
"I'll be back soon." I kissed her hair and she mumbled something I couldn't hear.
I pulled away my car as soon as I sat inside. I tried to slow down while I drove through the streets of Old Lyme. My father had bought a couple of houses here so that one day the whole family could settle down here. Currently most of them were still in Amsterdam.
I banged on the dark red door continually until someone opened from inside. I scanned around the house and found no one. Even the guards weren't here anymore. Guess everyone was eager to see Jonathan after all.
I walked in a hurry. I felt eyes on me as I rarely visited this house. I climbed up the stairs. I knew exactly where everyone was. There was a large living room, even in the upstairs. I kicked the door open and saw him.
He was sitting in a chair in the center as everyone else circled around him.
His eyes reminded me of Hazel. They were the same size and color, but the skin under them had sagged.
Everyone stopped murmuring when I stepped in and Jonathan's eyes fell on me.
"Christian!"
