April

"What are you going to do?" Leah snatched the book in my hand and threw it somewhere randomly. Seriously she needed to respect books.

"I told you already I'm going to find out if what Austin told me was the truth or not." I monotonously repeated the same answer for the hundredth time.

"You know that's not what I want. I want to know how are you going to do it." Leah snapped her fingers in front of me to wake me up. It was late in the evening and the atmosphere around the room was dull.

However the reason my mind was ignoring Leah and her questions was not because I was sleepy or the setting sun was making my eyelids heavy or anything but because it was concentrated on something else.

Tomorrow was the day. The day Christian was going to start attending school again. I was specifically instructed by Mrs. Jones to help him because he missed many of his classes.

"April!"

"What?" I snapped at Leah who was mirroring my expressions. Irritation.

"You're not saying anything and the way you're looking outside that window for an hour now has made me realize that you're not going to answer me and I wasted my time thanks to you!" She sighed and finally got up looking at me disappointed.

"I wish Jayson was here."

My eyes grew wider when I heard his name. Suddenly I missed him and wished he was here too. Then I remembered what happened between us before he left for LA with his father and awkwardness swallowed me.

"Leah." I called out. "He is going to come back tomorrow."

Leah didn't flinch nor did expression changed. I knew she wouldn't because unlike me she believed in Austin a little bit I didn't know why so it made her hate Christian all of a sudden.

"I see. Now I really wish Jayson was here. He could have helped me cool down after my mind have blasted because of Christian." She muttered clutching both of her shoulders. She was dead angry.

She was just like how Austin was with Christian when he first arrived here. I could feel the whole I hate this guy so much I can kill him vibes all over again.

Whenever I thought about Christian driving that truck and hitting my mom's car and killing both her and Logan I felt sick. Nausea and dizziness consumed me so I kept it away from my mind as much as possible.

"Morning class." Mrs. Jones said cheerfully for a change. Something was up. She was awfully happy and it was not even Christmas yet.

"As you all know that Mr. McKinney was absent for two months because of some medical issues." She continued happily and looked at me before she paused.

For some reason her grin widened. "He'll be joining us all again from today!" Her words felt like cold icy water. Shiver ran down my spine when I saw him stepping into the class.

He walked passed every seat till he reached the one next to mine. I was trying hardest not to look at him. I didn't know why but looking at him seemed difficult. It'd been two months. The last I saw him was at his house, covered in blood. His scream echoed in my head like a siren and my eyes fluttered shut.

The class went on but none of us spoke to each other. I kept my eyes on my biology textbook as if it was going to disappear if I looked away. My heart however was thudding in a way which was not considered normal.

Regardless of what my brother had told me I yearned for Christian. I wanted to touch him and make sure he was alright. I wanted to cry hugging him tightly so that he would not go anywhere again.

Only if I could.

While I was submerging in all of the things I wanted to do he suddenly spoke freezing every part of body. "Can I see you after school?"

I nodded in response without even thinking and it was after when he left his seat and vanished from my side I realized that the class was over.

Christian.

The more I tried not to think about it the more I did. Something was dead wrong with Hazel and she wasn't even hiding it. The moment I stepped in the first person my eyes looked at was her. Her beautiful face with striking eyes. That face was shadowed with fear and her eyes turned away from mine the moment they met. The whole time she was looking straight at her textbook as if she looked at me I would murder her.

I doubt she would talk to me after school but at least she agreed to meet me.

My phone buzzed distracting me and I cursed when I saw who was calling."Yes dad?" I literally dragged the words out of my mouth because I was fed up with him. He would call me or text me now and then to check if I found anything about Hazel. My job was to find out whether she was connected to Jonathan Grey or not and seriously he needed to give some more time for that.

"Did you find out? Did you talk to her? Remember don't need to get friendly with her. Actually you can threaten her!"

"Dad! I'll do it my way. Don't try to stuff my brain with your ideas of doing a job because it's not going to work." I pressed the red button hard and threw my phone back in my pocket. This man would never change. There was only one answer to solve any problem. Use your power. Threaten. Kill.

"God damn it." I muttered under my breath.

I wanted to see Hazel as soon as it was possible. School was nothing but just a drag. Still I needed to graduate. It was important than anything else in this world. It was my mother's wish that I should graduate from high school and find a decent job. If anything else mattered to me besides Hazel it was completing high school.

People in this school didn't seem to be happy to see me back in school though. As I was getting out books for the next class a lot of them kept throwing nasty glances at me for no reason.

"Hey there." A voice called making my head turn at her. She was a blond with pale green eyes. Surprise hit me because no one never actually approached me in school considering my reputation here. "Hi." I gave her a small smile which she returned.

"I'm Sapphire." Her white teeth glistened through her smile. I took her hand of friendship and shook it gently. "Christian right? I've heard a lot about you." She smirked.

Oh well it was nothing new. I'd been targeted for gossips for years now.

"Okay. Like what?" I slammed my locker before heading to the class. Sapphire followed closely.

"Like you have some political power which lets you enter this school. Or
You have a gang protecting you and you go fight with other gangsters with them and cool stuff like that."

That's half of the truth though.

"That's insane." I feign laughter and was about to enter the class when I felt two arms grabbing me.

"Sapphire?" I turned back to look at her. She had a dewy look on her face which told me I shouldn't have responded.

With her face close to mine I could see the desperation rising in her eyes. She batted her eyelashes and squeezed my shoulder a bit and murmured.

"Can I see you after school today?"
