April
I'd expected myself to wake up in a room. Possibly in the same room I'd fell unconscious. But when I'd opened my eyes, I wasn't lying on the bed nor was I in the same room.
Sharp pain shot up from my left palm and I narrowed my eyes at it. A freakishly huge heel was rubbing itself over the back of my palm and my eyes quickly shot up just to find Gracie enjoying herself with my misery. What the hell?
I moved my hand to grab her leg but then came to realise the situation. I looked down at my body which was tightly roped up at my waist along with my hands, so I practically couldn't move.
Panicked I looked around to find Austin sitting right next to me with a small stream of blood dried up on his forehead and his eyes closed. "Austin!" I exclaimed without thinking causing him struggle to open his eyes in response to my shriek.
"Ap?" His eyes gradually opened.
"Fuck!" He cursed, quickly shutting his eyes back.
"You okay?" I examined him thoroughly. He'd been hit on several places including that giant ass injury his head.
"Somehow. Are you alright?" He eyed me warily as I nodded. Gracie had left my hand alone leaving an ugly brown bruise on the back of my hand.
"What's going on?" I scanned the area around us and found the servants swarming around the room as they gave us suspicious looks from time to time. It's not like they'd not seen us before then what was with them?
Then my gaze fell at the centre. Someone was tightly wrapped around a chair. The man's head was awfully similar from behind. The hair was cut short just like Austin.
"Dad!" A scream left my mouth and everyone including Austin, startled.
"Dad?" He followed my gaze. "Why is he tied up?"
"I don't know. It's uncle. What does he want?" I tried not to imagine the worst scenario in my mind. Dad was alive. He had to be. Right?
"Dad?!" I yelled again. There was no response.
"Stop yelling." Uncle George appeared quietly opening the door and clicking it shut behind him. Everyone's actions halted and they formed a line even though this room didn't have enough space.
"Grace, bring her to me." He didn't bother to look at her.
Gracie grabbed my shoulder and pulled it up. "Come on."
"Uncle, wait! What do you want from April? Did you forget about our deal?" Austin roared beside me. He was struggling to be free, but it was going in vain.
"I'm not doing anything to her. So shut up or I'll make you."Uncle's voice had drastically changed. He was no more acting. His true self was resurfacing.
I somehow stood up, and Gracie literally pushed me forward. My legs stumbled around the chair on which Dad was sitting on. One of the servants pushed a chair beside me, and I sat down. Uncle George was giving me cold stare.
"I will come straight to the point, my dear " He gave me a fake smile. "If you don't do as I say you are going to lose your father and brother."
I took in a sharp breath. I turned my head to look at Dad. He was passed out and there was dried blood below his lips.
Suddenly, I felt a presence near me and twisted my head back but it was too late. Gracie's hand had snaked around my neck. "No!" I exclaimed.
"What is there to think?"She asked, her head tilted slightly. "Do you really think you have another option?" Her widened gray eyes had a nasty glint.
I tried to swallow the lump forming in my throat but her tight grip was making everything harder. My breaths were becoming shorter and faster as I saw her nearing my face.
"I'll show you April Grey that you have no other option." She smirked and glanced behind me.
A gut-wrenching scream left Austin's lips tearing the silence in the room into shreds and my heartbeats halted. Desperately, I struggled to turn my head and look back at him. "AUSTIN!" I let out a scream muffled by my sobs.
"Bring him here. Let April see what might happen if she doesn't listen to us." Gracie ordered. I heard footsteps and a body getting dragged behind them.
My skin crawled at the sight. Two of the servant threw him on the floor mercilessly. His torso was pierced in the middle with a cleaver, and blood was flushing out of the wound making him gag. He was coughing as if he was having a fit. Blood was spitting out through his lips.
I gasped for air. My stomach twisted in agony. "AUSTIN!"I whimpered loudly and struggled to free my hands. "Please uncle George!" I begged him, my eyes pleading him to spare my brother's life.
Uncle was quietly said. "Take the cleaver out."
"No! The blood loss will kill him!" I screamed shaking hysterically."Don't do this uncle please!"
"Then, answer my bloody question! Will you do as I say?!" His face was red with anger.
I quietly turned my gaze towards Austin. "I'll do whatever you say." I helplessly said my eyes locked with him. His eyes widened, and he started shaking his head. "No!"He spitted out."April don't-" Blood rushed out of his mouth cutting him off.
"Please don't speak Austin." My lips quivered as I gave him a small smile. "Let me protect you this time." Tears rolled down my cheeks. That's right. I've always been protected by you, and it's because of you that I'm alive.
"No! Ap-" he tried speaking but only more blood came out.
"Uncle I'll do anything you say but please-" I swallowed my dried up throat. "Please save Austin."
Uncle grinned satisfactorily an stood up. "Take him to the fifth floor. Make sure he doesn't die."
Two servants nodded quickly and everyone got into action mode. They brought a stretcher and carefully put his body on it. I watched as they marched away carrying Austin with them. He'd lost his consciousness by the time, so I mentally asked him to wait for me.
After several minutes I was still sobbing a little and sniffing when Uncle turned to me. He stepped closer and automatically my body hunched back in the chair. But then I felt an arm sneaking around my shoulder and my eyes snapped at the owner. Gracie was sickly smiling widely, her eyes glinting with excitement. Biting hard on my lips, I turned my head back to uncle. I was perfectly trapped into this. I could see that it was uncle's plan to use me according to his wish from the very beginning but somehow he was never fully successful. But when he could have easily used Austin to do whatever shitty work he was going to use me for then why me? Why was he waiting all this time to have control over me?
"Your task is simple my dear." He craned his face directly in front of me. His words didn't match the threatening stare he was giving me with his eyes bulging out. I listened without inhaling, all of my muscles tightened tensely due to the proximity.
"You're going to help us capture the person you've been spending all of your time with." He smiled broadly streching his lips to the corner of his face.
And at that time for the first time in my life, I was forced to know what despair really felt like.
