Christian.

"Christian!" Hazel's voice clanged in my head and my eyes snapped open.

Sunlight stung my eyes severely as I turned my eyes around watching the white ceiling and smelling the familiar scent of a hospital.

Where was she? Why was she screaming?? Was I dreaming? I didn't even remember the whole dream. All I remember was hearing her dreadful scream.

I let out a shaky breath realizing the situation my body was in. I couldn't move a single muscle except my eyes. If I tried to move horrible pain struck me like lightening. My legs were badly damaged and even if I couldn't see I knew my head was heavily bandaged. Christopher was almost close. He could have almost killed me.

It made my head hurt even more thinking about that night and the way Christopher was looking when he was smashing me with his metal rod. He was so overflowing with joy that I could see his smile getting bigger every time I cried out in pain. That goddamn psychopath.

The real question was, why was still I alive? Christopher would have made sure I'm dead meat when he had the perfect chance he has been searching for all his life.

I heard the door open and someone walked in. I assumed it was a nurse or one of my men but when the person stopped right next to my bed I saw someone I'd not seen for ages.

I opened my mouth to speak and nothing but a whisper came out.

"I see that you have woken up sir." She tilted her neck to a side while she came closer leaning down.

I attempted to talk again this time with more willpower. "Jane?"

Her eyes twinkled as she broadly smiled showing her perfectly lined teeth.

"Oh my God! You remembered my name! That makes me so happy!" her hand gently touched my neck.

"I've missed you sir." She smirked.

Jane Davis was a member of the special unit. It was a group of people exceeding everyone else in the training and was more capable of doing things than others. They were saved for special missions. Like if mafia war broke out.

Jane was better even among the other members of the special unit. She was highly intelligent and ruthless, so she was perfect for the work my family does. She was Christopher's favorite. However, she had a crazy crush on me since I had met her back in Amsterdam when I was thirteen and had just joined the regular training.

No matter how excellent she was in the job she did she was bad news. She was so crazy about me that she used to hurt the girls who came into my contact.

Hurt might be a light word. She had attempted to kill those girls. That's why when I left Amsterdam she was strictly ordered to stay and work only in Amsterdam.

"What-" I winced as the pain shot up my throat. Christopher had tried to strangle me to death crushing my veins in the process.

"I'll tell you everything. Let me inform the doctors first." She leaned forward and kissed my bandaged cheek with her lipstick stained lips. I swallowed in disgust.

God, why was she here?

My thoughts automatically drifted to her as I stared at the ceiling. What was she doing? She probably missed me. Right? Damn I had promised her I'll back after this is over and now everything is getting more complicated. I had to at least talk to her.

Hazel.

I didn't realize when my mind sunk back into sleep while her thoughts cuddled me.

I heard low whispers around me, and I woke up. My eyebrows joined seeing two doctors and Jane looking seriously at me.

"How do you feel Christian?" One of the doctors asked, and I literally never understood why they asked this question to a person whose body has been beaten up badly.

"Not good." I replied.

"You need to take a lot of rest. We've taken out bullets from your legs but it will take time for them to recover and then you'll be able to walk again. "The other doctors said while he profusely scribbled something on his notepad.

I just nodded, trying to ignore the stabbing pain in my head slowly rising.

"Here is the list of medicines he'll be needing." He gave the list to Jane. I felt anxious that she was handling everything.

"Jane, tell Ryan to come in." I ordered a happy looking Jane whose face immediately clouded.

"Why? I'm here, sweetheart. I can take care of your-" She whined but I cut her off.

"Jane. Bring Ryan in. Now." I said curtly and she nodded before leaving the room. God how am I going to deal with her? What if she saw Hazel and got jealous and did something to her?

"Sir?"

My thoughts abruptly stopped as Ryan spoke. I gave him a small smile. I didn't even notice him coming in.

"Ryan. What the hell Jane is doing here? Why is she in charge of everything? Who put her in charge? If it was Dad I swear-" I winced as sharp pain shot up my throat.

"You should not strain your throat sir. Doctors said it was severely damaged." He sat down on a stool beside me.

"Tell me what isn't." I stared blankly at him. "Anyway, I have to talk to Hazel. Where is my phone?"

"Jane has it." He shrugged.

"Why?" I slowly said trying to keep the anger rushing in me in control.

"Actually sir, Jane is the reason why you are Alive today." He mumbled without looking up at me.

"What are you talking about?"

Ryan cleared his throat before looking up at me with guilty eyes.

"I know you don't like her. Nobody does but she's extraordinarily talented and that's why you're alive. Christopher was planning to end your life that day with his hands." He paused scanning my face for a reaction.

He didn't have to tell me that. I knew from the look he had in his sneaky green eyes since he had put bullets in my legs and had successfully trapped me in his plan. His plan to kill me for once and all. All I had were my hands to defend myself.

I sighed feeling exhausted even though I'd been up for like five minutes.

"How did Jane save me? I didn't see her coming in or anything." It was getting painful to talk.

"Let me explain everything. I'm not informed about the person who summoned her here although a lot of us think it was Boss and he had sent her a notice to report immediately to Old Lyme days before he decided to talk to both of you. That's why she was already on her way to Old Lyme and when she got to know about how there is a fight breaking out in the McDermott family she came straight to the main house and believe me sir if she hadn't, you would not have lived to see the sunrise." He wasn't avoiding my eyes anymore. Ryan spoke fast and with firm voice. He was telling the truth.

"Christopher was almost chocking you to-" He paused. I noticed his knuckles were turning white.

"It-t was no-t your fault Ryan." I stuttered my voice growing weak.

"Sir, please don't talk. You throat is damaged. I beg you not to talk." He urged me, water pooling at the corner of his eyes. I nodded and decided to keep quiet.

"And about Miss Grey-" He swallowed hard before continuing. My heart flipped at the mention of her name.

"Well, she's been calling for a week. She's been continuously texting and calling you. But Jane has restricted all of us from even talking about her."

I tried to move my body, emotions running high inside my mind but it was tough to even move my hand.

"How long was I sleeping?" My throat stung, and My chest was getting heavier with her thoughts. I didn't know how I was going to make up to her for making her worry like crazy.

"It's been almost a week sir. Christmas is over." Ryan got up walking around the bed and pulled up the curtains and the sunlight which was making it hard to look around, scattered around in the room in an instant.

"It's new year."
