April.
"Wow, it feels surreal, here." Jayson gave my hand a squeeze as we exited the elevator on the third floor. He wasn't used to people bowing to him at every corner and the constant smell of gunfire which never left the air around here.
"It's a hellhole." I muttered. My stomach was twisting with nerves.
I knocked on the door to Uncle's office, and a maid opened it from inside. Deep breaths. Remember April. You're not alone.
I found myself tightly clutching Jayson's hand but he didn't react as we got in closing the door behind us.
"Oh it's you dear." Uncle's head bobbed up from the tablet he was concentratedly looking at. "Who is this? Did you bring a bodyguard?"
"He is a friend." I sneaked a glance at Jayson.
"I see." He sighed as put his tablet away and rubbed one of his eyes as if he had just woken up. "Can I help you with something?"
I swallowed hard on my dry throat. He seemed in an awfully good mood today. How can he act like everything was fine between us?
"I want to meet Dad. I hope you haven't done anything to him." I tried to not let my voice crack as I spoke.
"Of course I haven't done anything to him" He shrugged. "Yet."
"Where is he?" I stomped forward, unable to keep my anger inside. I felt Jayson's arms snake around me gently as he pulled me back.
"He is on the fifth floor. He kept insisting to be closer to his son." He glared at me. "Your father is, unfortunately, a strong man."
I couldn't help but smile as I turned around not thinking twice and ran out. As I swung the door open I crashed with a body and stumbled back. "Ouch!"
"April, you okay?" Jayson asked glancing at me for above as I fell into his arms.
"Yeah."
I turned my head to the person who I had collided. Gracie.
"Oh my, is that you, Jayson?" Her eyes roamed all over him. Yuck.
He ignored her as he kept looking at me worried.
"Let's go." I held his hand and decided to ignore her as well.

"Dad?" I called out. We were on the fifth floor where all the injured were being treated. Probably the victims of Uncle's torture.
"Dad?" I called him again as he was not getting up and my heartbeats were skyrocketing.
He was in the room next to the ICU section where Austin was.
"Seriously You are freaking me out!" I plopped down next to him and began to shake his shoulders.
He turned in his sleep and relief washed over me.
"Dad, wake up." I shook him again.
His eyes slowly fluttered open, and it took ten seconds for his brain to register who he was staring at.
"April!" He got up too quickly possibly broke a muscle.
"Dad!" I stumbled forward my head landing on his lap.
"Thank goodness!" I gulped down before I could well up and began to cry.
"Are you okay? Oh sweetie." He hugged me tightly clutching my back with his hands. Warmth surrounded my whole body internally. He was safe. He was alive.
