April.

"Honey, wake up."

My shoulder got slightly shaken as i tried to make sense of things. I didn't know what I was doing. Where the hell was I? My head began pounding the minute my mind started to become conscious.

"April, honey. Wake up."

"Dad?" I forced my eyes to open and tried to make a shape through my blurry vision. Finally after a minute or two of constant attempts and a lot of rubbing of the eyes I could see my dad watching me cautiously.

"Dad! It's Christian! Something has happened to him. Do you know anything?" I blabbered out feeling like my heart could jump out of its ribcage. Along with the sharp vision horrible thoughts came screaming at me. Why did I have to imagine the worst scenario?

"Calm down honey. First of all, tell me, how do you know about Christian?" He was eerily calm.

"It was Austin. He said something about a deadly McDermott fight and I-" my words stopped the moment I noticed it. "Wait a minute. It means you knew about Christian this whole time and you didn't tell me?"

"Yes. That's right." He simply said.

"How could you do this? I mean, all this time I was wondering why he was being a jerk and not calling me or maybe he'd forgotten about me when actually he was..."

I gave Dad my dead serious look. "What's happened to him?"

"I'll tell you, April, but honey I'm worried about your health. I'd been talking to your friend Leah, and she's told me how much of a stress Christian has been causing you." He kept talking and talking like he had any right to care about my safety after all these years.

"Shut up! You've been here with me for like less than a month and all I'm seeing you doing right now is acting like you've been with me through all this time! I know that you left us for a reason but it still hurt not to have a father at some point. Even if you had a valid reason to leave us it, don't give you the right to take all the decisions for me or to hide things about the people I care about!" I felt dizzy and sat back down on my bed. I didn't remember getting up from that.

"I know I'm not the best father or not even an average one, April-" he quickly sat beside me and helped me rest my on the coushion. I felt as if the world was rotating inside my head.

"But I'm still your father. I care about you the most sweetheart." His hand was warm as he caressed my cheeks which were wet.

"I... I don't want anything to happen to him." My throat was drying up and my nose had started to stuff. "I just can't." I cried.

"He's been in a hospital for several days now." Dad watched me, worried.

"Tell me everything you know. Don't skip anything." I demanded.

"Sorry honey I don't know much. But I'll tell you whatever I've heard." His hand kept rubbing my shoulder in the most gentle manner.

"Thanks." I tried to smile.

"All I know is that Christian was beaten up by his brother. Real bad. I don't know why they fought." He watched me carefully.

Christopher. I bit my lip in an attempt to stop myself from screaming. He was like a walking nightmare the last time I'd met him. He was after Christian's life even then. Guess he's never going to give up.

"There's a message from Uncle George to you." I suddenly remembered. "He wants you to visit him at his place."

I fished out the chit Austin had given me. "Here's the address."

"George...did he come here?" Dad spoke in a hurried tone as if he just saw a ghost.

"No, it was Austin."

"Austin came here? I have been searching for him all this time!" Dad got up from bed and started pacing around the room. "George that bastard!"

"Dad I'm scared. He said it was related to the McDermott's recent fight. What is he planning?" I straightened up.

"He probably wants to attack them." He gravely said. "Not just him, there are many people in this town who wants to take the McDermotts down."

"Dad..."

"I'm sorry sweetie. Don't think about it. You don't have to be worried about Christian. He's got his men protecting him." He came closer to me pulling me into a hug.

"I'm worried about you and Austin. He didn't look good Dad. If you're going to Uncle's place, please take me with you." I pleaded.

"It's too dangerous." He whispered his eyes bulging out.

"I can't stay here alone while you two will be there! No!" I let go of his warmth. "Please Dad. I'll take care of myself."

"That's not the point April. George is merciless. He would most probably want to hurt you." He warned me .

"I thought about that, and I noticed that he hadn't done anything to me since the school began. It was surprising but I thought it was because I was always with Christian." I completed.

Dad sighed roughly brushing his hair with his hand. "I don't know... But I can't leave you alone here either."

We were about to reach the house mentioned in the address when my stomach started to grumble. Grumble with fear. A familiar sense of terror surrounded my mind. Every memory of Uncle George hitting me in the stomach made my skin crawl. Yes, he used to hit us.

I sneaked a peek at Dad. He didn't know anything about this. How would he react once he finds out? He didn't appear to be afraid of Uncle George which was a good thing.

"Here it is." Dad spoke making me realise I'd been in my thoughts for the whole ride.

It was an enormous building situated oddly at the outskirts of Old Lyme. It appeared more fancier according its surroundings. As we stood in front of the metal blue gate two bulged guys wearing tight grey suits approached us. Apparently Where McDermotts wore black our family wore grey representing our family name. I'd forgotten about it long ago. Now standing before the place where my Uncle lived was making me remember every sick little thing.

"Sir! It's really you!" One of the big guys unbelievably whispered gazing at my father and getting mesmerized. Okay what was happening?

"William, was it? It's been a while huh?" Dad watched them causally keeping both of his hands tucked in his pockets.

"Sir I can't believe you're really back!" The other guy cried out.

As we strolled passed them I followed Dad dumbfounded.

"Uh Dad?" I asked running out of patience.

"Yes?"

"How do they remember you? You haven't been around for like years now!" I didn't care if my voice reached to everyone who were bowing to us on the way.

He chuckled ruffling my hair with his hand just like Austin did.

"Obviously they remember me, honey." He pulled me into a side hug as we walked. Glancing down at me, his emerald eyes glistened.

"How?" I mumbled.

"Well, they would, because no one forgets their first boss." He smirked in a confidence I hadn't witnessed in his eyes since I'd met him.

"What?" My eyes widened.

I didn't believe that the person who was affectionately looking at me and hugging me was once the boss of our family. Someone who sat in the same place where Uncle George currently is.

And for some reason it terrified me.
