"Never Going Back Again" -Fleetwood Mac
"Your names, Nancy, right?"
Marcus had never been so nervous in his life.
They both stood in the guest room, the one Nora had previously inhabited. Nancy walked around the space, studying the plainness of the cabin styled room but felt warmth all around her despite how empty it looked. She could feel the guy's eyes on her yet ignored him.
Loved watching him jumpy and on his toes.
Marcus stayed in the entryway of the room, not wanting to invite himself in. It was custom in werewolf culture to respect another's space, especially one's room. It was seen as extremely disrespectful when being in someone else's den whether they had an open-door policy or not.
Bedrooms were meant for close family and mates. No one else.
Marcus set her travel bag that looked a little worse for wear on the floor, right next to the door, gently as he could. Nancy had removed her colorful windbreaker, letting it dramatically fall onto the edge of the queen size bed before gazing out the large window, arms crossed over her chest.
She nodded as her answer before asking him, "And your name's Marcus, right cutie?"
Marcus visibly gulped, instantly making her grin, satisfied by his reaction. His feet shuffled below him, hands in the front of his jean pockets while looking down at the floor. He cleared his throat before looking back up, summoning his courage.
"Do you believe in love at first sight?"
The question shocked her a bit, expecting his flustered state but not for his forwardness, "Can I ask why?"
He began to explain, "In my family," he leaned against the doorway, "it's almost like a gift that every one of us falls in love with our soulmate at first sight. None of my family members have broken up or gotten divorced. Sure we fight but, that's healthy-"
Nancy turned to look at him, arms still crossed over her chest, "You still haven't answered the question, lover boy."
"Right, um," he shuffled some more, "in this community here, a lot of the people here have this gift that they are able to change into something else, something not human."
It was silent for a short moment, "Okay...And that has to do with you guys finding your soulmates, falling in love with them at first sight?"
Marcus gave her a timid smile, happy that so far the conversation was going good, "Yes, exactly. My little sister, the blonde downstairs, that's Savannah and her soulmate is Nora. Bonnie and my Alpha-" he grimaced "-Sean, they're soulmates as well."
Nancy could only nod, her head began to hurt and she knew a vain was about to pop with how hard she was thinking. What had Bonnie gotten herself into? "What does that have to do with changing into something not human? What exactly are you saying here?"
"In the simplest of words, it's like a perk that comes along with being able to change into a wolf."
Nancy's face instantly became riddled with shock. Eyebrows were raised, mouth gaping open, and the arms that were once tightly crossed over her chest, now limp at her sides. Marcus gulped again, waiting for the slim woman to do or say anything.
He continued to stare for a long moment before a scoff left her and she raised a hand to cover her gaping mouth, "You literally have no idea who I am but you're just gonna outright spill the beans that you're a werewolf?"
