"Honey" -Kehlani
Bonnie hadn't dreamt that night. Well, besides the one in the car. But she slept well, which was a first. She used to be a heavy sleeper, so much so that if there was an earthquake and a tsunami happening, she would still be dead asleep.
It was the first time her mother tried to kill herself that Bonnie had to teach herself to be a light sleeper, to sleep with one eye open.
It was her senior year of high school, her father was just declared dead after winter break. Bonnie had come back from school to find her mother shoving a handful of white-colored pills down her throat.
Bonnie didn't know what kind of pills they were or how her mother got them and she still doesn't know to this day, the doctors never told her.
After that, sleeping deeply had turned into a simple pleasure she only wished for. It was the second time her mother tried to commit suicide that she had made the decision to drop out of high school.
Her mother had gotten fired from her well-paying job due to never showing up, so Bonnie got a job at the local grocery store. Bagging groceries, checking out outraged customers, and collecting carts in the parking lot. It still wasn't paying the bills.
With working full time and making sure her mother was healthy, it became too much in the end. Sleeping had not only turned into a wish from the gods above but it also became nonexistent.
When her mother did kill herself on the third try and they were three months behind on the rent, she was kicked out of her childhood home. It wasn't in the best neighborhood, she still hadn't lived in the gated community of her town but, it was the house she grew up in.
When she moved into her crappy apartment, sleeping was still a hard thing to do. Her neighbors terrified her and even more so did her landlord. Last night, in the large bed, snuggled under a large helping of pillows and a comforter so fluffy you would think it was a cloud...Bonnie slept for twelve hours.
The two werewolves and witch downstairs became worried after ten in the morning when she still hadn't woken up. The little woman was so exhausted that she hadn't moved from her position she was in the night before.
It was around noon when Bonnie woke up from the deep dreamless sleep. Dry drool was found on her cheek and some on the pillow she was clutching.
The curtains of the large bay window were still draped closed, only a sliver of light shone into the room. After a low groan from how stiff her body felt, Bonnie rolled her body lazily to the right side of the bed, stood up, and then walked over the few steps to the window, slowly peeling the curtain back.
She winced at the afternoon sun and moved away from the window, looking for her duffel bag.
After looking around the large room, she found nothing so she moved over to the doors of the room. The tallest one was obviously the bedroom door, next to it was a shorter, normal-sized wooden door that when she opened it, it was a large bathroom.
She left the door open but moved onto the double doors that were across the room in front of the bed. She opened both doors to find a spacious walk-in closet. The left side of the closet was filled with men's clothing ranging from dark suits to jeans and t-shirts. The flannels were what really drew in Bonnie's attention. She did love a good flannel.
On the right, she found her shoes and duffle bag on the light gray carpeted floor. She instantly crouched down to open her bag. After she had pulled out a clean pair of underwear and socks, an old band t-shirt that had lost its lettering, and her best fitted skinny jeans, she placed them aside and looked for the photo of her parents and saved money.
