"Devoted" -Brook Benton
The first thing Bonnie noticed once she woke up was how badly her eyes hurt. They felt puffy and itchy. She raised her hand to shield her eyes from the sun coming from her left but her arm felt heavy and dull.
A low moan left her as her eyes shut tightly. The sun hurt her eyes to the point a headache had formed.
"Bonnie..." A voice called out to her softly, "Relax. Don't try to move."
A breath left her when blinds were closed, the blinding sun covered. Bonnie relaxed some before gaining the courage to open her eyes. She had to blink some for her to really focus. Once fully open, she found herself laying in a hospital bed.
Her head began to ache something awful so when a hand grabbed onto her lifted one, Bonnie quickly looked over, finding Nora and her beady eyes staring straight into her.
"Nora...What's the matter?" Bonnie mumbled.
Nora's silver hair was pinned straight, flowing over her thin shoulders like a blanket. She wore a dark and long flowing skirt, combat boots, and a band t-shirt tucked into the waistband of the skirt where a thick leather belt was placed. Her face was paler than normal, sick with worry and it scared Bonnie.
"I'm so sorry, honey," Nora sobbed and clutched onto her friend's hand tightly.
Bonnie looked down at their conjoined hands where she found a needle sticking out of the top of her hand. She followed the tube that was connected to the needle up to the bag hanging near her hand. She was on a drip.
"I should have asked when the last time yeah ate was, I shouldn't have taken that much blood," Nora rambled, "I'm so sorry, honey. Truly I am!"
Bonnie shushed her by bringing her other hand to place it lightly on top of her friend's trembling digits, "How long have I been here?"
Nora cleared her throat to stop her crying and collect herself, "Um, today would be ya third day. Two nights and three days."
Bonnie's eyes widened, "Nora! Why did you bring me here? I can't afford it, I don't have my insurance anymore!"
Although Bonnie's voice was hushed, she was anything but calm. Her anxiety peaked at the amount of money that rushed into her mind. Not only had she been in the hospital for three days with no insurance but she also had her own room that had its own bathroom and not to mention the amounts of medicine they had been pumping into her.
"Hey, Bon. Don't think 'bout that right now," Bonnie groaned and closed her eyes tightly at the feeling of tears pricking her eyes, "I've got everythin' under control. All I need ya to do is get better 'cause the second you're out of here, I'm takin' ya on a trip-"
"Oh my god!" Bonnie yelled, "Work! I had to pay my landlord and-and I've missed so much work, Nora...Oh my god..."
"Bonnie, please calm down-"
Bonnie's dark green eyes blasted open, "How the hell am I supposed to calm down, Nora? Please tell me because from what I'm getting here is that not only do I have to pay for my three-day hospital visit but I am most likely kicked out of my apartment and fired, Nora!"
Nora sighed and pulled her hands into her lap, her friend's hands left hers a while ago, "I'm sorry but ya weren't wakin' up no matter what I did but there's good news and I need ya to keep an open mind."
The witch stood from the poorly patted hospital chair and made her way over to the small table where Bonnie's old duffel bag was placed. Nora brought over the bag that seemed to be busting out of the seams and threw it on the bed where Bonnie's feet were.
